@PapaPhilip8 жыл бұрын
In these tests the "Irish" means "Celtic"....the British means Anglo-Saxon....most British people come out with a high degree of Irish and British. The English people are, on the whole, a mix of the Celts and the Saxons. A lot of those other parts (including the Iberian: Spanish/Portuguese) are other constituent parts of the immigrants and original settlers from a long time ago (sometimes neolithic or paleolithic times). Some, like the French (and note his list said French-German, which in Ancestry.com is actually called Western European, could be Saxon as well, or it could be some of the Normans who settled in Britain during the Middle Ages). He is, actually, very English in his DNA make up. Even the "Turkish" could represent the Neolithic farmers who came from Anatolia and spread agriculture to Europe. The British people are very admixed. He fits right in. I've noticed that different companies use slightly different nomenclature for these, but this looks very much like Ancestry.com's graphics or set up with more specific names (like "Turkish" rather than "Caucasus" or French-German instead of Western European. I think they may have slightly re-worded these for the videos in order to emphasize the unity of peoples. In another video they have a Kurdish woman say that she's 70% Iranian/Caucasus, and she said "That's Turkey, right?" and the people said yes...but in her interview she said that she did not like the Turkish government and her people were refugees from the Kurdish regions (which encompass parts of Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. She was born Iran and grew up in Denmark). The interviewers said that "yes, that's Turkey." But it's not just Turkey. It's Georgia, Armenia, Abkhazia, Ossetia, Circassia, Southern Russian, Chechen...a whole mass of different people...some with very different backgrounds. One would expect a Kurdish person to show up with that much Caucasus ancestry because that's one of the areas they are from! So, they asked the British guy if there is a place he doesn't like. He says Germany (and Turkey by his answer) and lo and behold he's part of that (but most Europeans are...and most British are). So there might be some politics here. Not bad politics. It's good to see the connections we all have, but it's kind of obvious. Ancestry.com's description of Caucasus says these countries are represented by this term: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey. There isn't a category: Turkish alone. It also says there are over 50 ethnic groups represented in this region.....which would include the Kurds.

Just because you're born and raised somewhere, does not mean that's your heritage. I do not understand how people do not understand that. How can a dark skin (black individual) be born in Germany and call her self German, just because it's on your passport does not mean it is what you are, that's just your nationality not your heritage.
@SPDcru8 жыл бұрын
Damilola Fakehinde heritage is like, belonging to something isn't it? "Valued objects and qualities...that have been passed down from previous generations." So, YES, if you're born and raised somewhere and you experience that culture and take part in that culture, guess what? That's your culture. That's your heritage. If a dark skinned individual, NOT just black, has grown up in Germany, eats German food, sings German songs, speaks German, takes part in German traditions, they are German. You don't get to decide that for other people. The people in this video have heritage from all of the countries in their biology because that biology physically makes them up.
@delolaaDML8 жыл бұрын
Heritage is something that's inherited, therefore, in my understanding your roots would be African and just because you're born in England don't make you English. To me, English people are white not black. If you're black you can say you're British because that's what your passport says. But it doesn't mean you're English because you're born in England and your passport says British. No one is claiming to decide anything for anyone. At the end of the day you don't get an English individual who's born & raised in Africa (let's say Kenya) claiming he's African/Kenyan. Neither do you get them saying I am black when he clearly knows his roots. Just because he was born and raised there, eats their food and takes part in the culture don't mean he's now Black/African at the end of the day, he's white/English. Not Black/African nor Kenyan.

InandaroundTO I think if you are truly what you say you are, like that's your heritage, like if you're African and Asian... like your mum is Philippino & Dad is from Cameroon, with things like that, apart from saying that you're mixed, in my culture you'd pick your dad's country when people ask about your heritage. But you could always put in where your mum's from as well because at the end of the day, you are 'mixed race'. You can't deny it, it is what you are. Those that are truly mixed with various ethnicities, a part could be more than the other, so I believe if you're half English and the other half is Caribbean, Asian etc. I feel like the 50% is dominant so you can claim to be English. As far as what you're claiming is truly in your genes and not what your passport says necessarily, then it depends on whatever the individual prefers to be classified as really. Someone could be 60% English, 40% Asian, and would still rather prefer he's classified Asian, rather than mixed race or white. Sometimes it depends on what culture they relate to the most or sometimes being raced by one of ethnicity and not the other could determine it as well. I mean you have children from broken 'mixed race' homes who'd rather prefer to claim just their mothers heritage and not their dad's, due to the fact that he was never there and they grew up experiencing their mothers heritage. I just really have issues with Black/dark skin saying that their heritage is British/English. When if a white person don't look at your passport or hear the way you speak, they wouldn't call your heritage British or whatever, they would say oh he's Black/African/Caribbean.

You do make a good point. A lot of what people actually have problems with is culture, not race, per se. But you might find that you have a lot more connection than someone just 1000 years ago, and it is very unlikely that there was some atrocity connected to this. For most people, I think finding that they really are more connected than they thought does have an impact on the way they see themselves and others, especially if they come from a culture that highly values family ties.

To every person who thinks racist, I recommend this test. Jay, I was born in Germany, my parents were born in Germany, my grandparents too. I am 7% English :-).

The funny part is the anglo Saxon invasion of Britain. Making that connection with Germany. Basically all Brits will have a German connection. Their DNA will always show a few % of it.
@ollidoe2 жыл бұрын
@@dgray3771 That's right, but now I'm a German with a British connection :-) = 7%... It's funny because the most beautiful thing in the world is obviously not football after all. I guess some of our ancestors were just in love and did NOT listen to the warnings of their parents. :-)

So I have been saying in biracial my whole life however, alot of people take me as being Latin because of my features.

Unfortunately, I think your daughter is right. Want to see the girl representing France acting? I found her page, there's a short video in which she plays a hotel clerk : www.aurelieamblard.com/fr/
@Draic858 жыл бұрын
It's suspicious that she's an actor, but in the momondo video they are using her real name, so it's possible that she just happens to be an actor. It does say on the momondo website that they used casting agents to find people for their ad (which makes sense, they want attractive and expressive people for an advertisement), but that doesn't mean that the people in the video were acting.

ActuallyJay's background fits quite well with his family tradition of military service. Though they don't like to admit it, the Irish (and Scots) were at the forefront of the British empire building process, alongside the English and 'native' troops, and military and administrative personnel would spend significant time 'overseas' and even marry the locals. It was a complex relationship and a very far cry from the 'rape and pillage' that wokists try to portray it as today.

"I'm 100% English.." Ur, you are most likely to be a Celt, meaning both Irish and Scottish (they just throw "Great Britain" in there to be lazy to be honest), and no surprise there about the German percentage, in fact he's pretty pure British I would've guessed the percentage to be higher, as "English" came from the Anglo-saxons, a Germanic people.
