Brings back great memories of Monache, Troy, and Kennedy meadows trips. What a wonderful time! We were doing what you are doing back in the 2005 era. I need to post some of those videos up. Back then best I had was a DV recorder, not the best quality but it works! Thanks, we are reliving those awesome moments thru your videos!

The Vanman My dad started taking me up there and the entire Eastern Sierras in the early 60’s via 1943 MB. My family made many trips through to that area from the early 70’s to the lates 80’s. Unfortunately my last trip to that area was in the early 90’s and haven’t been up 395 since 2006. Keep going as long as you can.

I love Monache...was there just a week ago...spent the first night at the Corral Creek Lodge above Kernville then took the road over Sherman Pass to Black Rock and Monache. We only saw 7 other campers in the Meadow...most along the South Fork of the Kern on the North side. Monache has been a fav for over 30 years.

I went up there years ago and it's beautiful. Too bad the Forest Service lied when they closed a bunch of the roads. At the barrier you could clearly see where the 4X4 road continued. That area had been designated as a "Wilderness Study Area". Legally for it to be classified as such it couldn't contain any existing routes/roads of travel. To close it the Forest Service just claimed it wasn't a "road", it was a "way", so they could close it.

Great video showing monache meadows. I was wondering whether you’ve been there in November? I’m going up next weekend and wonder how much snow I can expect and what might be the trail conditions in very early winter. Also, I saw in your video some wire fencing. Is some of the land adjacent to private property? I read there was cattle up there so I assume there might be fencing for that purpose. Are the campsites fairly visible from the trail? I’d like to camp close to the river but with some shade from the trees If possible. Thanks for responding!
@395jnky4 жыл бұрын
Latest I've been to Monache is October. It should be OK considering the snowfall up until now has been fairly light. But I would suggest you call Blackrock Ranger Station for the current conditions and trail status. And yes, we've seen cattle up there a number of times. There are several campsites as you enter the Meadow area...and they are even posted with some overflow. Have fun and be safe!

Do you guys think a 2WD Tacoma could make it to your locations?

Hi Sean - I'm not too sure about that. Last year, maybe, if the ground was dry and hard packed.
