We vaguely remember covering this song on a radio station many, many years ago but hadn’t played it since. That’s until we decided to revisit it for a Duo Session! We love this song and Melanie’s music in general. “Look, What They’ve Done To My Song, Ma” is one of those quirky gems from the past.
We’ve done “Michelle” by the Beatles (on our very first live album) and now “Look, What They’ve Done To My Song, Ma” … we think you’ve heard us butcher the French language enough now, we’ll probably leave it at that. Unless you can think of other songs with French lyrics that we really need to cover? We do apologise to all the Frenchmen, lol.

A huge shoutout and thank you to Journey Instruments (journeyinstrum...) for providing us with these stunning instruments. Believe it or not, this guitar and bass can both be folded in half and fit neatly into a bag the size of a backpack. Best comment here! 🙂 Hard to say, what made Melanie great in those days. There was a storm of styles and development then, but still something happened, when they played Melanie. It was not just Folk. There was enough folk then, and good folk. But Melanie was a kind of het own. Perhaps I was amazed, simplicity could do it. But the world stood still for a few minutes, away from confusing things. But she could fill the whole room with music, with almost no background. The girls here can that too. Pretty good background, by the way: simple but catchy. But you tell me, what the magic is here?..

I love this Duo Session! It was more than a cover; it was a tribute to Melanie Safka. You even wore the style of dresses that Melanie wore and Mona had braids in her hair as Melanie sometimes had. I loved the sound from the two new Journey guitars and Mona's harmonica play was great, as it always is.

Walking in to work at the B Dalton in the mall, I actually fell to the floor laughing when I heard 'Look What They've Done' on the Muzak performed by a dense string orchestra and thousand voice female choir that only repeat 'look what they've done to my song, Ma' through the playing. And it was mostly semi-staccato.

Well that was more fun than gathering half a dozen eggs from our hens in a single day! I haven't heard that song in years, and your rendition was wonderful! From the very first, you twins captured my attention because, as I've told you before, both of my parents were twins and both were musical. BTW, my mother is still living, and now she's living with us. She's 91 and has Alzheimer's, so we have some good days, some bad days, but music always makes things better. She at times has trouble remembering routine things that she's done in the past six months of living with us, but when I play and sing an old song and stumble on the lyrics, she chimes in to tell me what line comes next. Oh, and I've played your videos for my Mom. I'll definitely be sharing this one with her.

OMG, what a blast!! I have loved Melanie's music for decades. Then along come my new favourite singers. The accents. I love Melanie's accent and now Mona Lisa sing in their gorgeous accents. And the final irony (or anti-irony), the song is about a song being tied up in a plastic bag and turned upside down. Only Mona Lisa did just the opposite and raised Melanie's song to a higher level. Yah gotta love Mona and Lisa, they are fabulous.
