Anytime it's a young stud of a guy being the main character of the story, and the story goes "And the hero grew restless so off he went.", I take that to mean "And our hero slept with someone's wife and was run out of town." Great story as always, Dael. So happy you're going back and doing these stories again.

Mold Earth can excavate a 5^3 cube in 6 seconds. That means it would take 48 seconds to make a 10^3 ft cube, or 6.4 minutes to make a 20^3. 22^3 would take about 8.5 minutes meaning a level 1 Druid could make 3 of those holes in the time it takes to watch this video, and still have time to Druidcraft a Flower Crown.

@@BlueSparrow23 Mold Earth moves the 5' cube, a whole 5 feet from the hole you just excavated. Even it the DM allows that "excavate". means that the earth lifts it out of a 20' hole, you still have a huge mound of earth sitting around. Yeah, you can mold earth that away by shifting a 5' cove a whole 5 feet. Gonna take a tad more than 8 minutes. It's a handy cantrip, but still just a cantrip.

Folktales get mixed and iterated upon all the time. It's no surprise that by the time the writer of Dael's book put the story of Jack the Giant Killer down in print, it had absorbed basically every notable story of a human killing a giant. See also the bit with the "fee, fi, fo, fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman".

Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!” He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome foe he sought- So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought. And as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One, two! One, two! One of the favorite tales of my childhood. I really liked how most of his ways of defeating giants were pretty logical (you can imagine such traps in DnD, for example). Many other tales have this faerie logic, were everyone except hero is unbelievably dumb, so "cunning" hero just says complete nonsense and everyone believes him. Most of the Jack plans had sense.

That's one hell of a DnD campaign. Jack bests gryphons, an evil wizard, several giants (and ettins), and even _the fucking Devil himself._ The difficulty falls off a bit when the DM gives Jack several OP magic items midway through, though. Those could have done with spreading them out over multiple quests, to keep things _slightly_ challenging.

Love that he spends so much time absolutely wrecking face while running around in slippers & an extremely ratty robe. Speaking of the Welsh, when I saw Joy Formidable open for Fang Island their lead singer told a Welsh joke. She said "What do you call a Welsh person with a stick up their rear end? A toffee apple" which absolutely killed in South Carolina because man I tell you, nobody had the slightest idea what she was talking about.

That one plank reminds me very much of the story "Molly Whuppie and the Giant" where she runs across a bridge that's made of a single golden hair after having enraged the giant so much that he chases her without thinking-- makes me wonder if the original Molly story that Joseph Jacobs wrote down from Scotland (which wiki tells me was called Maol a Chliobain) was sort of a local a variant of the Jack the giant killer tales? I still like Molly Whuppie one a lot, she's got a lot of sass and it's awesome - Maybe while you're on Giants you should look her story up! :D

Yep. This reads like one of those "check out how great my character is" stories you see from time to time. "My guy has a magic instant kill sword and is invisible and is super fast and killed the devil once and everything is super easy for him and everyone loves him." Of course when this was written we didn't have hundreds of years of people figuring out exactly what makes an exciting story, so I can't give them too much grief about it.

It makes me happy that jack didn't actually need any of his magic items to kill the last giant. Like, maybe the slippers, but I think he could have dodged those attacks regular style. Shows he's still a legit badass. Edit: I guess that wasn't the last last giant I was talking bout, it was the second to last. Still cool though.

Oddly enough I could not find any common name for this feature besides Protruding Rocks. So I looked in the Cornwall area to see if the locals called them anything specific and I could not find anything, but I came across another Giant story you may be interested in with a heroine in it.
