Castor and Pollux the Gemini Twins || Mythology with Dael Kingsmill

This time on MonarchsFactory we take a look at the Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux (or Polydeuces) - the twins that inspired the constellation and star sign Gemini. They were the brothers of Helen of Troy, born from the union of Leda and the Swan. See if you can pick out the symbolism used in Orphan Black.

I luv this, as a summer solstice son, i have most of my characteristics from Pollux, I'm a bad ass boxer, play the guitar and sing, and throw darts either left or right handed. But the most funny thing is, that my family coat of arms , as two swans on it.

I'm putting this here because it's you most recent mythology video, not because the topics match, but I was reading Odd and the Frost Giants to by daughter and when Loki was explaining how Odin, Thor, and he were turned into animals, he mentioned that a title of his was/is Sky Walker. Upon hearing this, my daughter said, "What? That's like Star Wars!" As you are well versed in both mythology and geekdom, I came to you to ask if there is any intentional connection between Loki and Luke or Anakin, or is this just one of those coincidences?

Another interesting aspect of the story is that Idas and Lynceus might have mirrored Castor and Pollux in that in some stories they had the same kind of origin only with Poseidon as the divine father. In other tellings the real bad blood between the cousins started when Castor and Pollux kidnapped the fiances of Idas and Lynceus and allegedly raped them which occurred before the whole cattle raid and was the original source of the feud. This of course paints the Dioscuri, in a much less heroic light.

I know female ducks have really twisty and turny vaginas, like conch shells (because male ducks are violent with their... uh... courtship), so I wonder if female swans adapted in the same fashion. Maybe that explains the separate fathers for the swan's eggs... or maybe that would explain it for the Greeks.

No explanation is really necessary; things like that happened in Greek mythology all the time. Heracles, for instance, fathered by Zeus, had a twin brother Iphicles, fathered by Alcmene's real husband, Amphitryon.

Given the obvious distastefulness of Mediterranean mythology, maybe you should look into some Native American, circumpolar/arctic, aboriginal, finnish, or ancient african mythos for future tales. There are a lot of naturalistic, romantic, mystical, and enheartening tales in those cultures that can still lead to some entertaining commentary.
