OK, I can actually think of a good reason why they may have gone with the cheaper plastic zippers, rather than metal. If that nylon gets snagged in the zipper, a brass zipper will just shred it to bits. But a nylon or plastic zipper may not damage that outer shell too much, if at all. And I'm pretty sure that if you end up damaging that outer fabric, the jacket is trashed.
@Rysich60811 ай бұрын
I’m not sure, but I think it is made for cold environments, for example here in Canada if you try to zip up your jacket in -40 then it might be very uncomfortable if you have metal zipper, so the plastic one is better.

I remember in the late 1970's, down jackets in California were the rage, especially among high school-age teenagers. One brand of down jacket that was popular with teenagers that reminds me of Moncler was a brand called "Down Jones", it was a navy colored down jacket with ultra glossy nylon material, like Moncler. Down jackets popularity faded starting in the early 1980's and seem to have made a comeback.

Some facts and reasons out there that were missed: -Plastic zippers are used more often on lighter weight puffer jackets because even though nylon shell is relatively tear resistant, metal zippers that get caught on the fabric are more likely to tear the fabric like a knife once they snag on and picture the fabric. Secondly it's also because metal zippers are heavy and stiff and won't feel comfortable and balanced if the rest of the jacket if lighter than the zipper. -there are fill counts at high as 1000 fill that are sold commercially from brands like Mount Bell and Rab and they are usually flagship class jackets.

They had 100% down vs. Moncler's 90% and they were lighter but the issue was the shell. The shell and stitching were subpar and after about one season of wear, I saw down sticking out at a few places and one of the puff panel had a tiny hole... My Moncler is perfectly fine after 3 years of wear - no down sticking out, no holes, the puffiness is still perfect.

Although I wouldn't ever wear one even if it were given to me, I would at least say that they do have a bit of a distinctive, rather than just saying "looks like a garbage, lol". They do have 6 main "squares" on the front that are neatly spaced, separated by a cheap, albeit classy zipper on the black version. Like a lot of products in high-end fashion, they had to take a stand and settle their identity on a design that can be recognized from miles away. In that regard, they did it right. Just my two cents on this design, I'd be glad to hear about your opinion on this. By the way, very professional review, thank you for staying objective.

I think.if I really need a very warm and light weight jacket for special occasions or weather conditions, I would rather go by brands that really provide expedition jackets. they have multipurpose ranges too and some even a good selection of day ware made with material they use for the extreme expedition outfits too. so for both needs there are better alternatives I guess. it seems to be a status symbol
@nursen21066 жыл бұрын
@@PornobrillenAli That is not true. there are other jackets - northface and mammut - these are made for these conditions - even up to -40 or -50 celsius. I know a lot of people that like to wear their down jackets by mammut, montura, mountain equipement..... . in europe it is not that often, that it is that cold. so nobody likes to buy an extra coat. they wear the ones, they already own. and I think, they look quite good. most of them cost about 300-400 eur. but even the very exquisite ones that are extremely warm AND much thinner so one can also be active outside (climb or just do things outside, where you need to stay agile) those with the latest technology, cost max 750,- eur (one of the standard - cheaper ones by moncler costs a little more 795,- eur). the one by yeti purity does look very good in my opinion and is the winner in that category. moncler is still a fashion statement rather a necessity. I am sure, those in the very extreme climates in areas in canada or sibiria don't mind, if their jacket is by moncler or not. it should be light and warm for extreme temperatures. and I doubt that moncler is the first choice even under these conditions. I find it highly suspicious, that there is no product detail regarding strength in cold temperature on their homepage. and if fashion is soo important? yes, there are alternatives too

Prada also makes a lot of its items in Romania, and so do multiple other brands, and most luxury factories are made just outside of Bucharest where living conditions and salaries are better than a lot of places in Italy. Gucci for example makes its clothes in a Chinese immigrant city in Italy called Prato because they can get away with paying them way less money while labelling their clothes as made in Italy. So production costs are low regardless, but Moncler and Prada don't try fooling you into believing your clothes are made by Italian artisans.

Personally I really like them, obviously you're paying for the brand more than anything but I've never had an issue with quality and although the nylon seems thin and fragile it does hold up to years of wear. As far as the trimmings go, I have been way more impressed with moncler's than other similarly priced brands. The full metal zips on my burberry have shown more abuse than moncler, and I wear my jackets often. You could always go Canada Goose, but I'm just more partial to moncler, and see CG as more of a trend. To each their own. Of course there are jackets that do the same thing for less, but I personally love the shiny, 'trash bag' look, and the brand's heritage. No luxury brand is worth its price ever in terms of functionality but if you have the money and are comfortable with the price, why not buy what you like? Good review

Regarding the Zipper - you're 100% incorrect. They use Vislon (plastic molded) because of it's durability, smoothness & colour matching with metals slider & pulls. If they were to use metal No. 5 or No. 7 Brass, Nickle etc, they would receive endless returns & repairs as owners would not necessarily take care of them as they close the zippers.....

If you understand the shiny fabric and puffy feeling was this jacket's focus point, then any other thing on this jacket that would took you out of those focus should be removed. That's why picking nylon instead of metal zipper is purely design choice, nylon zipper just looks better on this one than either metal or coil. To make it really short, only nylon zipper can look "flat" and "dull" enough for it to blend in, making the other part of the garment stand out more. As for down poking through fabric, no amount of specific woven technique could prevent down from leaking in like you said at 7:33. For a fabric to be downproof, it must go through a specific treatment to have a thin layer of coating, that coating is what prevent down from poking through.

The reason I hate all these puffy jackets because they are so easy to damage. They could easily be ripped up if you take a fall against a coarse surface, or accidentally brush up against a chain link fence.

Hear me out. Moncler vest under an overcoat. My belved trench is too heavy to stack layers underneath without neckpain. The weight to warmth ration on the vests is still amazing and under the trench only a flash of red is exposed, unzipped.

Rafael, Saint Crispin is a romanian brand and it's made in Brașov, Transilvania. Romania has a lot of skilfull artisans and they make clothes for several brands, as Burberry, Armani, Hugo Boss etc.. ok it's not a rich country, but the craftsmanship is very good. Also take a look at Valentin Frunza. He is a romanian shoe maker from Moldova. Merry Christmas

The Zipper on almost all Down jackets is plastic for two reasons, weight and packability, a fashion brand or not any down product has the outdoors in its interest, Moncler are a luxury brand for sure, but the jacket still needs to work as a down jacket for more than just warmth. Also in regards to washing any down jacket, using down wash from a brand like NikWax is defiantly the best option and learn how to reloft the down otherwise the jacket is flat and useless. And finally I agree entirely, other brands have far better jackets for far less money, you can get a The North Face summit Series jacket that weighs less and has 800 fill power for 1/3 of the price, or a Rab down jacket of the same spec for far less again. As you stated, they're a luxury brand, and that is what you're paying for.

@3:19 you show a Canada Goose coat (which I much prefer). Montcler jackets are too flashy and shiny and they look like you're wearing vinyl or covered in Vaseline. Not a good look if you ask me. Canada Goose is warmer too and made in Canada still. North Face and many others are just as good also (if not better than Montcler).

You do talk about premium materials for the zippers and yet fastener companies claim that plastic zippers actually last longer than metal. Understandably, if you just care about luxury, durability isn't a concern especially at that price point.
