Spot on analysis. This competition was great as an idea and in reality. Next competition: Miltiádis Tentóglou vs Quincy Hall, 60m dash. Let's not forget that Warholm injured his hamstring in this race, and running 60m instead of 100m will reduce the risk for injury.
@freemn2 ай бұрын
So, a race between trained 100m athletes, don't do it for you? Want don't they start picking random fans from the stand to race against the athletes - give the fan a head start.😄
@TheFinalLeg2 ай бұрын
Ohhhh I like Tentoglou vs Quincy over 60m! The way Quincy starts though, that might be a tough race 😬
@kingabzthebabz84932 ай бұрын
Tentoglou runs a 10.98 that’s barely a sub 7 60, Quincy most definitely runs in the region of 6.7-6.8 it’s not that close
@trogpo2 ай бұрын
@@kingabzthebabz8493 His P.B is 10:70 (15 MAY 2021), and he doesn't do sprint conditioning training, so perhaps his 60m will be relatively better than his 100m, let's say 6:85.
@AnneNissen-nk4mh2 ай бұрын
I do not know who Mondo should run against in 60 meters , but as he was clocked with a max speed of 10.3 meters per second when he jumped 6.24m ,and this was with an at least 3 kilo heavy pole in his is arms, he can have a good time.

I think track and field needs this. I would love to see some beef between athletes and have them settle it with a 1v1 race. I think alot of people would tune in especially id there was good coverage on the stories and drama.

Good coverage and drama is absolutely necessary, and agreed, something like this is needed. Low stakes competition like this won't hurt anyone!

10.08 (+0.3) - 10.24 (+1.6) is the range for SWE's all-time Top 5 in the 100m, would be fun to see Mondo go for at least that #5 spot :) Production Values were great, but both were kept waiting too long before getting in the blocks as pointed out by Dina as Colin Jackson went on a little too long interviewing athletes in the crowd!
@TheFinalLeg2 ай бұрын
Good point, and I think Mondo is more than capable of 10.2 if he got a bit more training with blocks and just 100m specific training under his belt for a year or so. That's true hey had them waiting a bit, Dina really was just like let's get this going!
@AllInTheGame012 ай бұрын
@@TheFinalLeg Yeah a little more training & a better tailwind than the +0.1m/s they had should see Mondo run a low 10.2s! Dina was like this is great but let's get it going pls :)

The sprinting events, especially the 100m make the best spectacle in my opinion. It would be interesting to have some other famous sports figures line up. Ronaldo vs Neymar Jr or some NFL players. Also interesting would be a men vs women event, where the women compete in their best event and the men have to do one they don’t train for.

David Rudisha once challenged Usain Bolt to a 400m race. Rudisha had everything to gain and Usain had everything to lose. If you throw in some big time $$$ this may work.

8:45 Oh my god, I thought I was the only one who felt this way😂. Jackson is a legend for the 110mh, but man his commentary here was a bit awkward. I've heard him commentate on others normal races and he wasn't too bad there. Maybe it's because it was a different type of environment for him. This was more sorted for a wrestling or MMA announcer.
@TheFinalLeg2 ай бұрын
Yea I think that was it, if there was a more hype MMA or WWE announcer it would have changed the vibes. But yea like you said Jackson is a LEGEND so I don't want to make it seem like he's overall bad at what he does!

This should tell you a lot about the talent level in the 400 hurdles. The world record holder in the event runs 10.47 when in ~46.7-47.0 form. DK Metcalf ran 10.36. Warholm does block starts and 150s regularly, beaten comprehensively by Mondo who doesn't even train from the blocks.
@TheFinalLeg2 ай бұрын
I think Warholm just doesn't seem to have talent/ability that translates to other events, maybe in that he is hyper focused on hurdles (but then indoors he is pretty good). I'm still shocked his 400m PB is so poor compared to Rai and Dos Santos. Rai is ofcourse an exception with his 10.0 and 19.9 speed, but even Dos Santos has already run 44.5 when he was 22 years old.
@AJT1272 ай бұрын
There's more to talent than short sprints... Rai would smoke Karsten in the 100 and 200 10 times out of 10 and yet they run around the same times. Not every athlete (probably almost none) who runs a faster 100 than Karsten would get to his 400mH level even with years of training.

This was just a stunt to promote the "Mondo" brand - bad for the sport of track and field. So, a pole vaulter is the premier draw at a track meet ? - come on. The people behind this stunt could care less about real track and field competition. And this supposed "track guy" is promoting this?
