I agree-Season 2 was definitely better than Season 1. But let’s be real, Sprints was basically the Noah Lyles Show. They gave us a tiny glimpse into the backstories of other athletes, but come on, it was clear who the star was. Honestly, it felt like the whole thing was made for people who only tune in during the Olympics and couldn’t name a single Diamond League event if their life depended on it. The vibe was very much “Team USA vs. The World,” with Noah front and center. Sure, they sprinkled in a few side stories about competitors and background players, but let’s not kid ourselves-this was Noah’s world, and everyone else was just jogging in it.😂

Track is individualistic so it’s almost going to be impossible to feature everyone at once. These were four short episodes. I think Netflix could’ve done better but the one argument I saw was that this was American centric. America dominated the medal count for T&F. If we want something that follows a multitude of athletes from different countries, I don’t think it’s Sprint. I also think that this should’ve dropped right after the OLY being as 2 episodes were dedicated to it. No later than mid September.

I haven't watched this yet, but I think the biggest failure of Netflix's Sprint is they don't include any hurdlers or 400m runners. I'm bias because i was a 400m sprinter and my daughter does the 400m race currently. Those sprint events matters as much as the 100m and 200m. And as a track coach you wouldn't believe the amount of parents that think their child should only run the 100m and 200m. With that close minded thinking is hurting some of these kids potential and are limiting their success. Hopefully in future seasons they will expand into the hurdles and 400m athletes. Can't call the show "Sprint" if don't include all the sprint events.
@TheFinalLeg2 күн бұрын
I hear that, but I'm not sure thats a failure. Thats more like them creating a new series that is not necissairly SPRINT (yes I know 400 runners are technically sprinters). But I think thats where preference and bias comes into play. I like the Triple Jump more than any other event and I think some of the most compelling stories are there since the triple jump is one of the more complex and tougher events. But I also realize thats not what sells. Track fans barely watch the triple jump, let alone casual fans. But year hopefully in the future they do expand for sure.

Hate how positive comments the Olympics announcer made about Julien were edited to make it appear as if they were made about Sha’Carri. During the Olympics while broadcasting live, AFTER Julien won the semifinal, the announcer said “focus, focus, focus: that’s all her face says” and the camera is on Julien and the announcer was clearly talking about Julien. But Netflix lifted that quote and thru editing made it appear as if it was said about Sha’Carri BEFORE they ran the semifinal.

I think Season 2 of Sprint was cool. I liked they had more athletes this time. I really would have loved to see more episodes to expand on some people's stories more and to recount their achievements before the Olympics to more detail. But it was good. The criticism with some athletes not being featured or not showing a lot of them, I get it, I sympathise their frustration but I also understand the process of it all. On one hand, I think the athletes being vulnerable to share their stories is really important and should be highlighted regardless of how their season plays out. At the same time, this doc series is going to be heavily feature the biggest characters, the biggest stars, the biggest success stories. That is why the likes of Noah Lyles is going to have a strong feature of the show. For example, he's won a lot, medalled a lot and has a huge personality from the rest of the field. So I understand the frustration of being left off the show or not getting enough spotlight as some may have liked. But I do believe the most important purpose right now is to bring in new fans into the sport and I think these first two seasons have done a decent job in demonstrating the essence of sprinting in modern day track and field. However, now I really would like to see a Throws and Jumps version of Sprint. There is a lot of characters in these events that deserve more recognition than what they are currently getting right now. Plus it would really help to showcase their events in a new light especially with events like GST excluding field events and general athletics meets not giving enough time to display the competitive nature of throwers and jumpers as well as the bonds and rivalries in that area of the sport.
@TheFinalLeg2 күн бұрын
Completely agree there should have been more episodes to expand on stories (Tebogo for example) And yea, its tough when as an athlete you tell your story to the camera but its not highlighted or told in the way you expected. It can be pretty disappointing when you see the final result. As you said, the goal is to bring in new viewers and so the way they do thigh might not be inline with the exact vision an athlete or die hard fan has in their mind. I am a die hard jumps (triple) fan so would love to see it. I dont know if something for Jumps and Throws will ever come to Netflix, but maybe some indie production can be made and produced. Its sucks that field events get pushed to the side, but I understand why. Thanks for watching!

Dude, when she said “a little girl from St. Lucia is finally here” - that hit me right in the feels 😢even though it’s often mentioned I think the fact of her moving out of country and completely away from family - AT 14 YEARS OLD - is glossed over way too easily and quickly. There is a ton of stuff she had to overcome with that move alone. That’s a lot for a kid to go through at that age and right after losing her dad! That’s why I say it wouldn’t have mattered if Shelly Ann or Shericka was in the lineup or not. No one was beating Julien that night.
