I don't know if it was Desiré, Mondo's mom, or management that chose the ABBA music for the vlog intro, but it is subtly dramatic, and kinda sets the tone for these couples videos. The whole enterprise is a really good idea, because the two make quite an attractive couple. Mondo should be one of the most well known and well compensated athletes in the United States. He will enhance the state of athletics. Mondo should on the same quantum level as Usain Bolt, with untapped potential in the U.S.

His dad was screwed out of vaulting in the Olympics due to the American judges mistake in measuring. American Olympic trials happen in one day. If you have a bad day you are out for another four years. If some bad vaulter has a great day you may be out. Other countries rank the athletes through the whole season to choose who goes to Olympics. Sweden does this as well. Mondo’s mom is Swedish. The Swedish team offered to pay for all of Mondo’s pole vault poles which can cost in the $100,000 range through the years. Mondo still said no that he would vault for America. But then they offered his father a coaching job on the Swedish track team. And that offer was too good to pass on. Plus living in Europe during track season means that you don’t have to deal with jet lag for most of the track meets. Having won gold in the Olympics and setting many new world records I’d say it was worth hurting your feelings that he didn’t stay in America. You’ll get over it. And he’s already legendary.

He lives part of the year in the USA. He's american. He did turn down Sweden the first time until they offered his father a national coaching position. He's not the only American that plays for another country - as long as they have dual citizenship they can choose where to play. And even many non-american athletes train in the USA.
