Monetization Journal Week 6: Shorts and Long Form Videos

Hi Claire - I too have been repurposing my long form for a short and then in the KZbin upload area connect the short to the long form under the "related video area." The long form publishes on Tuesday - the short publishes later in the week on Fridays. I found it helps drive traffic to the long form. Another thing that helps is taking the short and making it into an Instagram Reel with a description to click on a link in my bio to watch the full video. The entire Instagram process is very quick because I have already edited the video for the KZbin short. The IG posts also on Tuesday, a few hours later after the long form video.

That is a great schedule! I love this system! I also love that you're using KZbin and Instagram to support each other. Those are the only two platforms I'm focusing on right now so I want to do a video about how to use them to support each other. Love this so much! I'm excited to see how it helps grow and support your channel!

@@Contentclaire_ity Fall is great, but often short lived! Sometimes it goes from summer to winter in just a few weeks, or at least it seems that way haha. Maintaining those leaves in my yard is a challenge I can never keep up with anymore.

Grats on hitting the 250 subs goal, absolutely have to celebrate all the milestones. For me I do both shorts and long and would always suggest doing shorts, shorts get the subs longform builds the community 😎

Good Monday morning Claire. Congratulations on the 250 + Subs. I've been posting one or two shorts almost everyday. The reason is I have been more successful at getting new subs by posting shorts. And, I try to post one or two long form each week. Long form is getting me more Public Watch Hours. I've been trying to do a second channel with long form only as a test. So far it has proved difficult to add another channel and keep up. But, I shall continue. Last week I wasn't getting any new subscribers for a few days and then lost a subscriber. Ugh! The good news is I posted a couple shorts and a long form video and overnight (ok it was really two days) I gained 14 new subscribers. It pays to post new videos. Public watch time is really slow. So, I need to keep posting long form. Here's another thought I saw while watching another channel. It seems you will need 8 minutes of video for KZbin to put adds on your videos after you get monetized. Your's is only 5:17. Something to think about for your future videos. Al least, this morning you have already got over ten minutes of public watch time for me, so far. Yes, I watched this one twice.

Congratulations! You are killing it! 🎉 I did create 2 Shorts from one of my vids and one of the Shorts did really well with views. But then I saw other YRers say to choose one or the other , gah! I like the advice you have for us though - makes sense!

You should always do your long form videos. Use your shorts to support the long form.

It's amazing how much advice is out there! I'm so glad this helped! I think thats a great plan, it's what I'm trying to do with each of my long form videos! What's funny, is as soon as I said shorts were helping me, the next two I posted, did the WORST of any I've ever posted 😅 You never know what will work! Something this video made me think about, was the difference between posting to KZbin and Instagram as well...that might be a video soon!

I post EVERYTHING to this channel at the moment. I like how Gary Vee said it, "you are your niche." I do have Ideas for additional channels, but until I see the clear need for separate channels then they will just remain ideas. In regards to shorts specifically I did the most during the 30 day challenge that I have ever done. I am going to try to keep that up into July but eventually I think my shorts will either be from my long form videos or teasing a long form video. @@Contentclaire_ity The challenge went well, but I didn't really put much thought / creativity behind them. I do recommend giving it a shot. With the type of content that you create you could easily make the shorts teasers for upcoming videos. Since the challenge I was in was a "shorts vlog" challenge that is why mine were what they were. I do love the vlogging!
