@@Wackaz Communism is literally impossible though. The government can't decide the value of everything, we need a free market so people can decide the value through an extremely complicated system and several exchanges. Plus value of objects changes constantly depending on demand which the government can't decide. You know, communism has always been tempting for those who are contemptuous of the economic hierarchy. That's how the USSR convinced all those people to rob the rich, which brought a famine to the country since the rich were generally those who harvested food for everyone. Then the government had full control which allowed for Stalin to kill 20+ million people. Not only this, but how people will work without the government forcing them to is beyond me. And I imagine the government can make people work themselves to death since there is no clear limit on how much is each person's 'ability'.

Another criticism I have of Money is the region locking. Like, why did Currency decide it would be a good idea to region-lock Money based on country? Each of the various releases are all essentially the same and yet now I need to spend MY time to purchase another type of Money with my Money whenever I travel? I guess it's a smart way to sell more copies of Money, but I'm really worried this is going to be a slippery slope. What if they decide to take a page out of Pokémon's playbook next? Want a vulpix and a growlithe? Better get both Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. Want $? £? €? You guessed it...version exclusive Money. I'm a big fan of Money, but it's sad to see the direction Currency is taking it. I really hope their next release doesn't have region locking, or worse.

Here's some more lore: "Barter" was only used by people who were strangers. People who knew each other immediately moved on to "credit", a system of "i owe you one's" which is significantly less complicated than "barter" because it solved the annoying "double coincidence of wants".

The only times barter occurs in society naturally are when strangers meet, or in a society which previously had money but has suddenly lost it all for some reason. Another interesting thing about money being used as the premier unit of exchange for goods and services is that money in and of itself becomes a unit of power. By nature we humans want to hoard power, but for an economy to stay healthy money needs to constantly circulate. Unfortunately this means that when some people get large amounts of money, they don’t want to lose the power it gives them so they only use that money to make more money for themselves and others in similar positions of power. This ends up having some unfortunate effects for everyone who doesn’t have excess money after buying essentials.
@reserved4humanbeings2 жыл бұрын
If we could eliminate or reduce the methods that people "use their money to make more money" a.k.a, making money from the labour of others directly or indirectly (hiring employees, renting, being able to control companies full of workers they'll never meet through massive investments, private banking, lobbying) then money may be a lot more desirable, at least in areas where scarcity exists and it makes sense. Almost like maybe people should be rewarded for their work and not for owning things or hiring people to work for them? Maybe the people who do the work could own their workplace together and all benefit from the profits? Elect their managers? Automation could reduce work hours or increase the wealth of all of us? A UBI could be implemented so that work no longer becomes a requirement for basic survival, giving average people more bargaining power?

Not to mention that it doesn't taste good, not sure why more people aren't talking about this, but what if I wanted to eat my money?
@mattmanh42422 жыл бұрын
honestly i much prefer the money's predecessor the ducat as it at least had gold within it allowing it to be more real feeling, and it wasn't nearly as region locked as money, as even though the euro dlc did end up united the european seperate currencies into one simplified currency it still isn't as free as the ducat, since the ducat at least included the north African regions and most of the black sea and all of europe

I understand your main issue with paper money, I agree that the american branch of currency has such a delicate note for seemingly no reason, but have you considered taking a look into the english branch of currency? They've recently released notes made of plastic that are fine with water and dont tear easily (they do melt however when in contact with flames so that's still an issue). It's the next step for currency and hopefully they share this product evolution with the rest of the world.

People bash Currency a lot for not looking out for the little guy, but since the community hasn't found a way to solve its problems I don't know if we can say much. Currency only releases a new version of commerce when they feel the formula needs to be shaken up. Honestly, I can't see currency doing any heavy lifting until more QoL things are released that give a higher player baseline. Players will probably get a better starting point when Technology releases more automation because of readily available work for item producers to use. Though if Technology's "automation" flops there'll probably be a lot of angry players. I don't think Technology will flop on this one since Technology has been around consistently for roughly two million years (with the release of sharpened rocks), and has only really seen success. Though you do have one or more of their "forgotten" releases.

Sorry to take this very light hearted video a bit too seriously, but Money has certainly become a problem in society. The concept itself is not flawed: the value of a good I have created and sold or the service that I have provided to another person, abstracted into a form that can then be stored and used at any point in the future to reap the rewards of the good or service you provided. The problem with money is not what it is, but the way our money systems are currently constructed and the average individuals relationship to the need for money to survive growing into an unhealthy obsession with hording wealth. The first video I ever watched of yours was "You are doing your best." and it was really profound for me and found me at the right time. Then I never watched another one of your videos until now. This is very different in tone and subject matter, but it's equally as good, and thought provoking in a really different way. I really enjoyed it and I should put effort into consuming more of your content. (as if it is any effort to sit down and watch youtube videos.)
