My father always said “money isn’t happiness, it’s safety” and he is so right. Whilst we can buy and enjoy so many things with money, I think the most important one is known that a medical bill or a broken car won’t get you in financial danger. Money can improve one's quality of life like affording healthier foods for instance and good health is priceless. People who say money doesn't matter have never been poor. I still remember the days as a poor college student having to take out loans and work a part time job to help pay for tuition. I ate a lot of unhealthy instant foods because they were cheap. I loved hearing your perspective. Thank you and you look lovely today ❤

A certain amount definitely makes me happy! The ability to buy healthy, delicious food, spring for a latte, or even shoes that fit my feet properly and a sweater to keep me warm, filling up my gas tank, being able to pick up the tab for a friend, and pay the doctor, etc. etc. money buys freedom. To an extent.

1. Freedom (similar to your "options") from a bad job. 2. Convenience and time. If you outsource tasks you don't want to do, that frees up time for you to spend with loved ones, or to engage in other more meaningful experiences. 3. Avoid hassle. Sometimes, you can throw money at a problem to make it go away, such as paying for a CPA or lawyer. People who have enough money have a saying - a problem that can be solved with money is not really a problem. Makes life less stressful that way. I bought two luxury handbags before getting into personal finance. I still love looking at other people's eye candy, but am throwing all my additional money toward achieving financial freedom for now. Love your channel and your message. ❤️

I so agree with you on this! There was a time where money was very scarce for my family. We had a hard time affording even basic necessities...it was such a difficult time. I can tell you, my quality of life has vastly improved with an increase of income! We are able to pay bills on time, have a savings and we no longer have consumer debt because we were able to pay that off a couple of years ago. Also, we are able to be comfortable because we haven't increased our lifestyle too much with the increase of income. That's a trap too many fall into as well. Another thing some should keep in mind is to find ways to generate extra income that can be put towards investments. Once I am monetized on KZbin (I'm so close!), I plan to use that income to buy investments for our family ❤.

My happiness lately is around bed room area. After splurging on great expensive matress earlier this year (which I never regret, not even one second), last month I splurged on roller blind that blocks 100% lights for the window. To me traveling also means freedom: you have the chance to change scenery and not to be trapped only in one place. During this pandemic I have only traveled abroad once and it hasn't been any kind of problem. Instead it has been wonderful to explore new places in my home country and create new memories ❤ Of course I enjoy also some material things but experiences are unique and the happiness they give lasts longer.

Last month at my local consignment store, I saw a black D&G miss sicily handbag that I always wanted since high school when it first came out. But even though it was already at half the original retail price, it's still not worth $1500 to me at this point. With my current lifestyle, I won't be carrying it often and it would just end up sitting in my closet collecting dust. So I decided not to buy it. I still think about the bag every now and then but I am glad I didn't buy it this time. I am sure in the future I will come across another one when I'm more ready for it.

I think money makes me feel safe and secure so that I don't have to worry about not having enough money, particularly after we eventually grow old and cannot work any more. I feel very safe now because the amount of our household savings corresponds to the affluent range. Also, I am a Japanese living in Japan and we like travelling to Europe a lot. It's good that we can afford to fly by business class because it's much more comfortable during the long trip. I am also very much into luxury hotels and restaurants in Europe, so I'm happy that we can enjoy those experiences too. I envy people who live in Europe because I love Europe so much. Japan is pretty boring and unattractive to me (compared to Europe). It's interesting how some foreigners find Japan as an attractive travel destination. I heard that you want to travel to Japan, but why? Although I do admit that the luxury handbag preloved market is immense and pretty reasonable here in Japan. So I have been able to buy the handbags that I want for a pretty good deal in the preloved market. It makes it seem nonsense to buy retail, particularly because of the recent unreasonable price increases.

I've learned so much watching your videos Eileen and I also like to share your videos with my adult son doing his Masters far away in Brisbane now. It is said "Health is the Greatest Wealth, Contentment the Greatest Happiness". Although money can buy health (faster in some sense), but money can definitely not buy contentment, and I would like to add, Gratitude as well. I've seen people (spiritual people like monastics) who do not have a single cent to their name but they are so happy and giving (in terms of time, kindness, compassion, patience). On that note, perhaps you would like to check out French writer Matthieu Ricard, and why he is the happiest person in the world 😊💖

It's true to a certain extent. Money can't buy you happiness but it removes anxiety and financial insecurity, which are definitely impediments to happiness. I can't really agree or disagree with the points you brought up in your video, because in my opinion the things that you mentioned money can help you with are what a person earning a middle class income is used to spending on. So it could simply mean that I have been leading a very fortunate life without realising it. That said, I hope you can do a follow up video on how money really can't buy happiness because I believe the discussions on this topic will be more interesting.
@nekomon25462 жыл бұрын
I feel like money is happiness for the essential things in life at least. Sure material things may not mean as much but they are good for our wellbeing to have such as your example of quality. My parents and I kept purchasing cheaper alternatives so that we could fit into the society of not always wearing the same pair but this was more than a decade ago. I value quality over quantity since I found the minimalist lifestyle so I'm gradually sizing down on the things I own and use. I also try to be more sustainable but not in every aspect just yet - but what I can change, I will and I have. Money would buy my parents' and I happiness because after 11 years of living in the UK, we're still in rent and that has nothing to do with how we spend the money truthfully (since we're actively saving up for the last 5 years and we've been selling the items we do not use and are in good condition). The price of houses have just increased to no end and a lot of them are not worthy of those prices honestly. The actual space in the 2-3 bedroom houses are so tiny, it would feel like living in a prison. Same with the gardens. The only houses worthy of the pricetag they have are near the countryside and I am not going to live there and do a 2-3h commute to work just for that. This is the difficulty I personally am going through.. but yeah as soon as we have a house and we're all healthy, money won't matter as much. Money matters to the less fortunate.

Money happiness? Stopping to buy a cold sweet ice tea package, to sit down eat when you are outside instead of being thirsty and hungry and have to wait to get home because you can't afford to eat out. Sending for the chocolates and cakes and other baked goods that my cook friends made to other friends and to my mother and brother, and make my friends happy that their wares get sold and my family and friends happy from eating the good foods that my friends make. Seeing a cute bag or accessory or dress that I know my friend will like and just buy it for them and watch them smile and glow when they receive it. Buying mattress, pillow, and blanket set to send for my friend who lives with a poor aunt who can't even afford to give her a bed to sleep in so she doesn't sleep right on bare floor anymore. Paying vet bills and the aquarium specialist man in cash. Buying cheap chocolates and wafers for myself to enjoy when I work. Back in the day, buying CDs and cassettes of the artists whose songs I love and listening to their songs over and over again. Buying novels and comic books with stories that touch my heart and expand my mind. Sending out the ironing so mother can rest instead of doing it (and the laundry workers get money to feed their families). Once I saved enough to pay for dance lessons for myself and a dear friend. Only like 2-3 sessions before my money ran out, but it was HEAVEN. Also: showing up for the dance show of my former dance teacher with my darling dance buddy! It was LOVELY sitting with him to watch her dance, and to see her face GLOW when we greeted her after the show! Eating together with my beloved best friends and makan kakis. And so many more I cannot say! Dear Ms. Eileen, thanks for making this!
