Being Canadian, we usually buy our Colones in Canada to avoid the CAD to Usd exchange charge. We order ours from our local RBC bank and usually takes a week. We also take USD to deposit into our CR bank account for house expenses, etc. We also only exchange USD at the bank, where the rates are the best.

Plastic notes are good especially with all the moisture down here. They raised the colones prices on goods and services to reflect the high exchange rates when the dollar was higher over 600 to one dollar and now it’s in the low 500s and the local prices never come down only go up.

Yes, i agree, the plastic bills are so much better than the old paper ones. What a difference a year makes for the dollar.

guess if ya look at it from dollars to colon you are better off using colons...so only exchange what you think you need because you get less back when you leave......but remember to use colons at gas stations, they always deduct at least 70 colon per dollar when you use u.s. money...which would be a good lunch...

No, Canadian money is not accepted in most places in Costa Rica. The local currency or the US dollar is the way to go.

the conversions don't make sense at all/..just looked it up for 6/12/2023 at 539...blah blah bla would be 1,078 colon for $2 u.s. how do they reduce from 539 per dollar when you go above a dollar, should be more ??
