Money is valuable because we believe in it. The more we reflect on this, the more we realize religion is far from gone from today's 'secular society'. We're just calling our religion 'the economy'. Here we follow philosopher Ernest Becker in his book Escape From Evil on a quest to discover the religious origins of money. Our journey takes us to scholars as diverse as A.M. Hocart, Grafton Elliot Smith, and Mary Douglas.
Money is valuable as a source of power, freedom, security, and self-confidence. All these things, Becker tells us, ultimately go back to the same fundamental human drive. The drive to more life. Here we answer the question of how countries came to depict their monarchs and great people on their money. We find the origin of this practice in sympathetic magic, where the image of a god is believed to grant the magical powers of the god to whoever possesses it.
Finally, we reflect on how today money has lost its spiritual appeal and remains a strictly materialistic, commercial tool for the shallow gratification of wants and needs.

My father who wasnt in my life wore a hat the day I was born that said "If money is the root of all evil than I want to be bad bad bad." My grandmother asked him to remove it, he refused because he was balding in his early 20s. This story about him and others about him made me believe that money was his downfall, and I have hated it all my life. Ive never had much of it because I get rid of it as soon as I have it like its burning a hole in my pocket. Now I give as much as I can to God to let him deal with it.

@crazboy84 8 ай бұрын
@miguelatkinson God doesn't need money, he wants you to be charitable. By being charitable your heart softens to others, and you become more Christ like. Giving is just as beneficial to you as it is to those you give to.

@@crazboy84 but how charitable exactly there a difference in being charitable and oversaring aswell isn't money in your own words kinda a bad wouldn't be more logical from your perspective to burn it than let it corrupt others ?

@miguelatkinson Can you point to a person that has ever lost everything by being charitable? Read Malachi 3:10 and tell me you think God would let a man starve who gave him all he could. After you read it, try putting Malachi 3:10 into action and watch how God moves in your life.

Two books that touch on this subject matter is Magic Myth and Money by W.H. Desmonde and Unusual Psychoanalytical Notes On The Origin Of Money by Fabio Benini a book that looks into the myths of Mesopotamia and Sumerians a place and people where the oldest currency, the shekel originated. That being said money is just anything that is traded. Trade condenses wealth. Fertile regions that trade with less fertile regions accumulate wealth. Wealth in its original form was food specifically grain. A empire with a large food supply can feed its people, in other words, excess energy sweels up population, creating a large work force and the potentiality for a army. The State, originated as legal protection for workers but more importantly for infantry. While David Graeber and David Wengrow might have said otherwise, every major modern aspect was birthed from Neolithic Agricultural Revolution 12,000 years

How do we trade efficiently? With what alternative?
@matsveritas2055
@matsveritas2055 Жыл бұрын
It’s not efficient as it is, because “money” is not something we’re all equally able, or even allowed, to acquire. We’re not allowed to produce our own. To claim lands for development et al... All the land is already owned by ancient warlord dynasties that were never punished for their serial murdering invasions that so claimed the lands of our ancestors in their name.

Money can be anything we want, anything we agree upon and use as an exchange. We don't even need banks anymore as money is merely numbers today. But we can make money represent something that humans need and that conditions the earth and is very abundant, something like cannabis - a medium that is used for medicine and thousands of products. The entire money system can be based on it and backed by it. Money has been many things so why not something we can grow and use?

the Original Money wasn't the Egyptians. The original gold coins were made by farmers who traded gold Nuggets for Ownership of their Cow. The Cow was the Product the Gold coin was the seed and the Money was the Love for the cow by the farmer. If as you say Money is a Religion we should add some religious context. The Goddess Juno Moneta was the god of Love and Marriage and she protected the people. Her love of man produced man and they coined in her honor. She loved, man was the produce and the coins were the seed. She was the Daughter of Saturn the Roman Satan and supplanted The eternal creator who created love. A seed of Satan which is the origin of the bible quote. "The Love of Money is the Root of All Evil" in that Juno was the Seed of Saturn and Saturn is evil and thus to love Moneta is to love the root of all evil. Only those who turn away from the divine want to live forever and thus.. Money is Man's attempt to want to be as gods which is exactly what happened in the book of Genesis. Love connects us to the divine and the divine leads us to produce works. The coins produced were not Money, they are Seeds. Those who aren't connected to the Divine will pay Coins to hold a copy of the Product produced through love. Thus to worship money is give those who issue it our Seeds so that they can plant for us with their love which Supplants the divine connection for ourselves. Every time you use Cash or Coin to pay for something you didn't create you are destroying your own Love and Immortality so the entire religion of Money is a Matrix based on the Divine's original plan for man.

5:58 wow. in Thailand, the cowry shell is still used in folk magic as an amulet for protection. I presume they got it from the Indian subcontinent as a significant amount of their folk magic is influenced by India. there are also yantra (magical sigils) that resemble Solomonic sigil magic. the cultural exchanges in the past were pervasive. 🤍👋
