@@paulinthephilippinesolddog9234 Unfortunately John didn't have his head screwed on straight when he came to the PI. Now that baggage is weighting him down. Making a real change is very difficult at his age. As generous as the donors are they will only become John's enablers. No reason for him to make any real changes in his life. John's like the 30 year old kid living off his parents. Why get a job when free support is plentiful. Maybe some tough love is necessary.

As a German who has travelled the globe and lived in a few places for extended periods, I wanted to commend you for helping John in a way that is beyond the call of duty, in a humane, dignified, humorous and selfless way. This is what has always made Americans unique - and specifically your generation stands for these now sadly old-fashioned American values of helping someone in need without being pretentious and moralizing. By simply putting together a practical plan of action, a few resources and moral support in helping John deal with his specific set of problems, you do more to restore faith in true humanity than all those virtue-signalling young people that talk about the iniquity of life without ever lifting a damn finger beyond typing their manufactured indignation. As always, "old bones", i.e. seasoned men, are getting the job done, back then and now... I take my hat off to you and your group of friends.

@@1MinuteFlipDoc Yes. We have a mental health issue. Expecting to live on $30,000 for four years - that's $625 a month for one person even if he spent zero getting established, which is ludicrous. You can't support two people, let alone four! What happens when you start helping someone like this is that you have now passed the "event horizon" of the black hole that will suck you in. First, it is just John. Now it is the children. But all four people - John, wife, and children require a permanent solution. He said he did not want to go back to the USA, so what. I don't want to wash dishes, do laundry, clean the floors, etc. Why is it that he needs other people to find him a job? That's something a teenager can do on their own. If they are mentally healthy. Logically, a person that is incapable of operating at even a teenager level of acuity and responsibility is going to have trouble at whatever work you find for him. The social security system does have disability benefits. What you have to do is go get an evaluation by a health professional that establishes he is disabled. Then you file the disability claim. I am certain he will "pass" with flying colors.

Things are already grim for many in the U.S., with a rising homeless problem, lots of elderly people struggling to get by, lots of people living in vans and cars, lots of people relying on government and charity help. As a father I have compassion and empathy for the kids. The parents however is another story. The help John is getting from all you guys is wonderful and all of you deserve congratulations on doing an incredibly great deed. However, (again) to me this is like beating a dead horse. Unless some of you have endless supplies of cash it will never be enough. John will NEVER get an online job that pays enough. That being said the girl will once again pressure him because of the lack of income and round and round we go. The best thing you should have done weeks ago was stick him on a one way plane back here. There are TONS of job openings here in Vegas. He can send money back for the kids (although it may go elsewhere) and it will be more than working there. Lastly, I understand your feelings of wanting to help this guys, but C'MON MAN. You of all guys should know better having seen your own kids go down a similar path. This guy is a SIXTY year old man. Time for him to put on the Big Boy Pants. No way in hell I will allow this to continue, but if you enjoy tossing your cash I got some land out here just west of Vegas you might like. Best of luck Dog. I drove him to this Detox. Checked him in. I went to stay in a Hotel for the Night. Before I left the following Day, I went to say GoodBye to my Friend. To my surprise, he had checked himself out. My point is you can help People but you can’t make them want to accept that help. It was hurtful that I took the time to help him and he wouldn’t listen to me. @SY-ok2dq
@SY-ok2dq 2 жыл бұрын
That was very kind and helpful of you. But I would not do that kind of thing. Because if they are not initiating it, if you have to drag them there, then they'll never complete the detox or fix their problems or whatever it is. They have to want it for themselves. They have to be making steps on their own. And you can help a little, offer some support while they're doing it. But they've got to be driving themselves forward, not be pushed and pulled along by others. Eventually they have to stand on their own. They have to resist that drink or that hit or that food or whatever, on their own since nobody can be policing them 24/7 for the rest of their lives. Having helped others in situations where this person seemed to need help, to get back on their feet etc., I now know the signs to look for, and what I shouldn't have done. Basically I did too much. And they weren't doing enough for themselves and content to just soak up that help. No thanks. And looking back, I imagine that that person probably has not really learned or changed, and will probably end up again in another situation. Paul, you hit the nail on the head at the ending about John. I had a friend like that. He was failing at a relationship with a woman and blaming everyone but himself. Throwing money at everything trying to keep it afloat. Fortunately, it wasn’t a Filipina, it was an American woman. Same thing it became a he said/she said. I believe John was delusional thinking that he would have an idyllic life in the Philippines where everyone will look up and take care of him. So, he went broke chasing a pipe dream. Good to see you guys helping out the twins. They were the real victims in this. As far as Diana and John is concerned, I wish them the best. They should stay away from outside influences, especially from her side of the family. I also believe she was manipulated by her mother to soak John for everything and then hang him out to dry.

He might be very unattractive to a lot of employers. In any case he was offered a job. A viewer made him a firm offer - decent pay - and John turned it down. John didn't leave when Diana and her family were treating him - as he claims - like crap, and abusing him and depriving him of food! And now he's taken Diana back with open arms. He'll never leave her, as long as she'll have him. On the upside, since Diana is 40 years younger, she'll be fit and young enough to be his personal aged carer when he's old an infirm in his 80s and 90s. A personal carer, living in 24/7, would be very expensive in the U.S., but he'll be getting it for only the cost of providing her support - all on a basic U.S. pension.

Hello Paul and great video my friend. Here is my professional analysis of the situation: 1. They are together as a FAMILY and this is the first step towards being more responsible and having more responsibility for both parents to make it work. He should get a job, continue to provide for the family, and then go to Manila in the near future to get a complete health checkup, and get the papers moving on Social Security Disability (if he qualifies). 2. If they dont make it work out and both of them continue to have issues, the best thing would be for her and the baby girls to move out and go back to her family`s side. He will still need to provide support now ONLY for the 2 baby girls and himself while STILL working and accomplishing his goal of getting SSDI. Those are basically the two options I see from all of this at this point. Take care Paul and thanks to you and everyone in John's support group.

He'll never leave Diana. She might leave him, but I doubt it now that she knows that he can always get donations and help from othet expats even if he is broke. And now he'll be eligible to claim social security payments so he'll be able to support her and the kids. But isn't there a 3rd child? The one before his twins, thr child that is not John's. Is that child living with them? I don't think Diana will leave. The longer she stays, the older she gets and that makes her less marketable and attractive to other old, expat men. No, I don't think Filipino men would want her. She has a child (the one that's not John"s) to support and that would deter a lot of them. Why should they support an extra child that's not theirs, when they are poor themselves? Diana will stay and eventually become John's nursemaid and carer when he's old, his 70s and 80s, and not in good physical shape. She'll be too old to have any other option. No job, and no other man willing to support a woman in her 40s (which is how old she'll be when John is in his 80s).

Hi Paul and Baby Mae!! May the good day be upon you! You are the only one of the few with you who have shown humanity to your co citizen or your kind. People can learn from you in some good ways! Thank you even more because you are doing it in a country that a lot of people are helpless, in need and no where to go . I understand you can’t help everyone , but everyone need you for understanding being helpful person.

Both kids can get SS benefit until they’re 18/19. Somebody needs to apply for it.

@Erlinda Johnson, first thing John needs, is to do the paper work for the kids to get US citizenship. Get that out of the way first before he starts collecting his SS payments. He needs to show proof he's the father or those kids will never get a dime of SS support money.

Over the years i have found that the feeling I get from helping others is so fulfilling and shows the empathy I have for my fellow man! It's easy to point the finger and ridicule but that's not very fulfilling! So realize that others are seeing your empathy or lack thereof, and how do you want to be seen? Are you a problem creator or problem solver? There is a bunch of love out there so jump in any time! God bless y'all peace out brother

@CHINA Dave well said Sir. It's quite sad to me how many bitter and twisted individuals criticise and demean others empathy. I guess they were not loved enough themselves.

Well said, China Dave. If John decides to return to the States I suggest a good way to save money would be for Mark Thornton to step up to the plate and give him free passage on his cruise ship.

This is an important cautionary tale for any expat. Sometimes people need tough love and to be called out on their stupidity. John is a grown man that is thinking with his penis. I have empathy and compassion in spades but I'm not going to sugar coat and live in fairy land. Better to be brutally honest with John than be an enabler!

I don't think he was under funded I think, "and I wanted to say this before" Honest opinion here; he is the type of person who would struggle tanking care of himself in America much less there, I don't honestly think he's very self sufficient, nor really able to self care which is vital to be a xpat.... I personally think had he been able to manage his funds he would have been fine on it. But 🤷‍♂️ I think this happens a lot, people get over there and have all this faith and wind up getting hung out to dry because they are nieve.

George and Heidi, aka Philippine Antics Expat Help (George is Filipino and Heidi is an American, very nice couple) spoke with Diana and they are suspicious of the entire deal. This is one of their comments on that video: "She (Diana) is no longer responding to us. We offered him (John) money, diapers, and formula. Also video proceeds. John and she have refused OUR help. ONLY AFTER OUR VIDEO WAS help offered. Prior she said she had nothing from him. The whole group of them is up to something. He also has been offered other jobs but has not responded. It's been said they are under someone's control. Good luck to them. WE DON'T RECOMMEND ANY MORE HELP."
