When I travel I always bring trash bags and ziplocks, but I only bring maybe 4 or 5 trash bags and maybe 10 ziplocks so they pack very flat 😊. Trash bags are great to convert into dirty laundry bags and whenever my family has extra trash.

We learned years ago to ask nicely for a little fridge, if there isn’t one in the room. Our child is type 1 diabetic so we need one for insulin and basic foods that are always on hand. Hotels have them available, even if only a few for needs like ours.

What a great video. We don't really travel but we always bring water, snacks, food etc. Even running our errands we bring snacks and water 😊

💯 agree👍🏻😊 I remember back in the 70's my parents bought groceries for a cooler, back then the no refrigerator in the hotel and a two slice toaster, to save money. Today we travel by car and I also bring groceries, coffee cup and a small Keurig to save money. Thanks for sharing 😃 God bless

I had to fly from New England to Arkansas this summer for my grandpa's funeral. I used a carry-on and tote bag to avoid baggage fees. Took my reusable water bottle (empty and refilled on the other side of airport security) and packed snacks. There's no shame in my snack game!! lol! My husband smoked a pork shoulder the day before I left, so I packed a couple of pork sandwiches for my layover in Charlotte. It tasted WAY better than anything at their food counters!!

I got out of the habit of travelling to go hiking for a week during lockdown, been staying fairly local since then. Went for my first week since that time. Did great with the hiking and camping part, dehydrate my own meals, coffee packets and so on. Packed the right gear. Made a total hash of the travelling part and spent a lot more than I would have if I'd planned it better. Maybe worth it as I actually enjoyed the travelling, seeing new places and I was worried I was no longer up to that level of hiking and I did it. Still better forward planning would have saved a fair bit. Live and (re)learn!!!

My husband and I rarely fly. Not because we are afraid to fly, my husband’s career was flying, but because we like to have a vehicle at our destination without having to rent one as we like to explore. Because we drive, I have space to take things with us like a brand-new toaster I got from a thrift store for $3., paper plates, paper bowls, plastic eating utensils, paper towels, a small supply of plastic bags and salt and pepper. Also, we usually take a cooler with all kinds of goodies - boiled eggs, cheese, lunch meat, fruits, vegies, pre-cooked bacon, small bottles of mayo and mustard, etc.- for breakfast and lunch and maybe dinner. We also take snacks, and bread. Do we always eat in our motel room. No! One of the routes we take we usually stop in a very small town that has a very nice, clean and reasonable priced motel. We’ll either eat dinner and/or breakfast in this small town because we like to support the local economy of these small places. I love the adventure of seeing how much money we can save. I like the idea of that hot water heater. Is it OK to use for soups and things other than water? I enjoy your videos so much. Thanks

Love this! We drive a lot for family vacations. Every year, we drive from NY to Florida and do the same. A bunch of food in the back of the van and a cooler. A lot of our travels are in a camper and then we do air B&B with a family of 4 adults. The little heater worked well for the soup!

I always bring teas, some instant soups, chocolate and nuts. Than I buy salad kits and bread. I always have reusable water bottle. I pass it empty on security at the airport and fill from drinking water dispenser before boarding the plane. It's free. Also I love to try local food so I go to restaurants or bars or pubs for one meal a day. But I save on breakfast, snacks etc.

Lol. I used to work hotel front desk. Def don’t be shy to ask to borrow what you need or forgot to bring. We wind up collecting all kinds of things like phone cords, cubes etc plus any coffee/tea stuff and the hygiene stuff etc. plus free breakfast options. Sometimes we’d loan out a small space in the big fridge and freezer also. 😅😅 Plus ask for the list of what’s in town like the nearest grocery or Walmart, etc. Of course now we can just look it up on our phones. Lol.

@@saraconklinfrozenpennies 😬 Worked at Hampton Inn (Hilton chain hotels). They’re pretty good about fridges and micros in the room and free breakfasts and you can sign up with a free program also. Usually all the free breakfast places also have all the picnic type stuff you need (plates, utensils, salt/pepper/condiments etc)….besides maybe ziploc baggies. Wifi always free and pretty decent toiletries. Oh right. And we had free cookies…while they lasted. Lol. You could still ask tho as we had baggies and stuff like that in the big kitchen. 😅😅

@@judysbakeryandtestkitchen1654 Lol. Hampton has a “happiness” guarantee so I def think some folks took that to some kind of extreme. But I would not consider giving a few free baggies away a big deal or loaning out abandoned stuff. Etc. 😅😅 Plus it’s getting so expensive now just to stay one night even so by all rights customers should be made reasonably happy. (Imo anyways lol). At least AirBnb and Vrbo is giving them all a run for their money. 😅😅

Thank you on the Shampoo! I always use the hotel or cruise shampoo. Everytime I mention this like every woman alive screams at me how horrible that is for my hair and how they could never ever do that. Im like its maybe 1 or 2 washes.

Right!!! Even 2 weeks worth of free washes will not be THAT damaging to hair. I think its a great strategy!

My daughter and her husband are staying for a week at a beautiful hotel downtown Nashville, already paid for. Except Valet parking - $40/daily valet parking plus tip. She has tried to figure out some way to avoid this - but to no avail. I’ve heard some hotels charge valet part fee even if you don’t have a vehicle. Yikes !

Get on Google. Search parking + hotel address + near. It will pull up nearby parking options. Of course you don't want a car break in so call the local police nonemergency number and ask about car break ins in parking lots near your hotel. Lastly call any big surroundings hotels to ask their parking rates for nonguests. Over the years I have saved so much money this way. Doesn't always work but often does.
