I am glad that finally India has got competent people in the right places to the run the country. The road is still rough and there are so many challenges now then before and that is why we need politicians who can make the tough decisions. Before BJP and Modi came to power, India was run like a private Gandhi Ltd company with the leftovers for the Congress Party members: similar to the way Pakistan is run now by the Bhuttos. All I can say is that democracy like India needs a good opposition to make the government accountable but they at the moment they cannot do it if it is run by a family instead of neutral and competent members of the Congress Party.

But please note that same 'puppet PM" saved us in 1991 along with the then PM PVNRao from going down the drain. In May 1991, we had forex for just 15 days imports and ships bearing diesel to India were contacted by their owners on the high seas to alter their destination as India would not be able to pay them. If that had continued , we would have had serious shortages of fuels, fertilizers etc leading to hyperinflation and major riots across cities. This was what many journos like Prem Shankar Jha etc reported then. Indians should be eternally grateful to PVNRao-ManmohanSingh-Rangarajan trio for having brought us back from the abyss. For that matter, PVNRao managed a minority government beautifully for one full term without talking too much, but by doing the work that is required, including 'managing' parliamentarians

As we all know, we succumbed to US pressure earlier on not importing oil from Iran, but today we are not succumbing to Western pressure over purchase of Russian oil. Most Indians feel that Mr Jaishankar is the best advisor and he has made this difference in policy.
