Regarding PayPal, I remember a couple of months ago I had to pay for something, at a site that just mainly wanted me to use PayPal (I'm very unfamiliar with them, and have never had to use PayPal really, so I stand to correction), but when I tried to set up a PayPal account through my Capitec bank, I couldn't. After some equiry, I remember getting a response, in the line of, that there was "current problem" with opening new PayPals from SA (or linking your SA card to it of iets), and that their only bank that they were accepting from SA, at that time, was via FNB. Established accounts was ok and still ongoing (as I had a friend who's PayPal was linked to their Capitec account years ago, and was working still). I don't know what the current situation is, as I found another way around it, ons moet maar, and I haven't had a need to use PayPal again, but if anyone has had a recent experience like that? or can shed any light on the situation..?
@MoneyMarx2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience. I personally have a PayPal account that I set up about two years ago that still works fine. If you are not banking with FNB you can still link your PayPal account to your normal bank account, but it still needs to go through FNB. I will make a review and tutorial on how to setup PayPal in South Africa in the next week or two where I will test it out, but as far as I know it should still work.

This video is already 2 years old. So what has changed since? If I'm looking to invest offshore what is my best options now at the lowest cost and at best conversion rates from USD to RANDS. Everybody is keen to invest in other currencies but when a payout is required, at what cost? Is it still worthwhile?

Helpful video! Thanks. Title has a split infinitive grammar error causing ambiguity btw.

Thanks David. I had to Google that error to be honest haha. What would you recommend I use instead to avoid ambiguity?

What about crypto transfers?
@MoneyMarx2 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question AW. That could be a cost effective way, but given the volatility of crypto at the moment and the fact that not many companies accept it as a standard payment yet, I would stay away from it for transacrional purposes personally. I still invest in Crypto, but I won't use to to transfer money overseas. But that's just me.

Paypal is fine an dandy until you get an error like I did and then their support team is truly horrible. This has been my experience that left a very bad taste in my mouth. I have since relied almost solely with payfast and paystack (check them out, really awesome company!).
@MoneyMarx2 жыл бұрын
I've read that PayPal will sometimes freeze accounts when there are a sudden high volume of transactions. It is a bit concerning to hear this, especially if the customer support team is slow. I will look into Payfast as well, thanks for the recommendation Gabrielle! :)
@1on1artschool2 жыл бұрын
@@MoneyMarx Yes. I ran into issues where the only document I could submit to verify my account for its legitimate business didn't line up with the kind of business I began the account with. Once this happens your account is permanently frozen. It's so so badly managed. Payfast has a lightning team and I even spoke to managers. The only short term annoyance is their deposit measures with increased volume if you do high ticket. Paystack has been my recent favourite. Go Nigeria! (Feels so weird to say that as a saffer!)
