1) Use 99+% isopropanol (isopropylic alcohol) when wiping any internal components. It dries faster, easily dissolves fingerprints, contact adhesives and thermal paste, doesn't short out components, doesn't affect the plastics and it's easy to get in most countries. 2) before doing this upgrade at home make sure that the laptop can handle the power draw of the new component, especially the CPU 3) make sure that the heatsink can handle a more powerful CPU. Most laptop cooling systems are designed with just 1 CPU in mind: the original one 4) the external GPU can be a pain on some laptops if you don't have an express slot and try to go through the wifi card slot. I know from experience

I have a HP DV5 Laptop, and I Upgrade the CPU too, i3 350M to i5 560m, My hint is to cover the heatpipes with eletric tape, those black ones, made of ruber... It helps because it prevents the heatpipe to heat the air inside the laptop, You don't have any "heat leak" close to the motherboard... With the i3 it was about 55º celcius idle... now with the tape and more powerful CPU, idle is about 38ºC
