I've owned one of these since 2012 and use it to this day. It's the i5 2450M version with 6GB of RAM, and I'm using it right now to write this comment. Unfortunately, it's also in need of a good internal cleaning (overheating) and a repair of a broken hinge, and your video is such an inspiration for anyone who wants to do these repairs at home. I've had mine since 2011 but haven't used it much since the hinge broke. Shockingly, it can still play Fortnite and Rocket League at respectable frame rates. That processor is a trooper.

Awesome job! I have the same laptop, and it's now in it's eleventh year, and still going strong. I've had it apart at least seven times (some mistakes made me go back in) to change the thermal pads/paste (I think this video shows just thermal past being used, but pads are better on one surface, I forget which), fan, base, battery. I was going to keep it going forever, but now I think it's time to get a new one before any new problems. But I'd love to upgrade it and keep it going, if I had the time...

I exactly have this model laptop and it still runs like a charm without issues. All it needs is change of thermal paste every 2 years. Changed the battery and keyboard at 8 year age of it. It's now 11 years old

This is exactly the laptop I had from 2011 till a year ago. I bought the i7 2630qm with 6gb of ram and nvidia 525m video card. It lasted me through uni and beyond. Everything still works great and it's just as fast on day to day tasks as my custom built pc. It used to overheat, even with new thermal paste applied, so I used liquid metal instead. It now barely ever gets above 90 degrees. It has its resting place in my living room for cuasual web browsing and video watching. Cheers!

this laptop is kinda beast dude. I've used it from 2014 to 2020. Mine was i7 2670QM, 8G, 640G7200rpm. It was able to handle Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects in the same time. Altough the battery is sucks, 2 times get replace and then the IC charge is broken.

Hello really nice work! Planning to start tomorrow an upgrade to this laptop. How did you installed Windows 10 did you upgrade the Bios first? Because as far as i read people had problems with this laptop when switching to Win 10. A Bios update to A11 was needed and several drivers to be installed also.

Hint: Always check the voltage on the CMOS 2032 battery. Show viewers voltage and simple replacement. Usually necessary on older laptops.

Hello Andrew, I have the same laptop it is a good machine, i discovered that it has a problem with the gpu heatsink having a little air gap. After replacing the paste if i do the dot methot it does not spread on the gpu.only the cpu. So i bought a new heatsink from Aliexpress with the "original " cooling pads because i damaged my heatsink trying to presure it on the gpu..it seems it has a faulty design and most of them overheat due to this problem..did you had any problems so far?.i understood that cooling the gpu with an 1mm thermal pad works as well..sorry for the long message i repair laptops as a hobby as well and i really like your videos
