The best speakers you can buy for the money, the bass is very good and I listen to all genres of music drum and bass, hip hop, pop, house to name a few. I've had these for over 6 years and it still surprises me every time I listen to them the quality of the sound is still amazing. I only use a 70 watt marantz amp and the bass is good. It's not all about the bass, the midrange and treble is equally good. I don't think I can replace them for what I paid for them and they hold on to the price too. Don't listen to this guy, buy one and you'll see.

I have these speakers and can't say enough about how great they are. Detailed highs without being harsh at all and beautiful full mid range without being muddy in the least. Paired with a Velodyne sub and a quality receiver these are incredible.

If you hook these up to the right amp you'll have all the bass you'll ever want! Maybe if you use a better amp and some real wiring instead of those tiny cheap ones you'll do them justice. Of course it's a matter of taste but I think these absolutely blow away any Magnat speaker ever produced if you pay attention to the sound image and level of detail these babies produce :-)

I don't own these, and I have no vested interest that makes me say this, but despite what everyone is saying about these speakers, they DO NOT need a sub; what they need to truly perform their best is a very high powered amplifier, between 200-400 wpc (good quality - not BPC shit). If properly positioned and when using the right amp, you would not believe the difference those two factors make. Overall, though, speaker positioning is key with all speakers... No-one these days seem to even bother with that, though. Oh, and bass, while nice, is very difficult to do right (in the lowest ranges). I'd rather have a bass cut-off, rather than a bloated, one-note type of bass any day of the week.

I do own a pair of these and they're simply the best speakers I've ever had by far. Subs are nice to have on a home cinema set to get a nice LFE response for added immersion in movies, but I would never add one to these as it would not sound natural at all. Bass response of these RS6s is excellent and sounds very natural and realistic, even when driven by a "medium powered" 2x80watt amp. I use the baffles for the rear ports with them because they actually sounded too boomy to me at certain frequencies. With a 80 watt RMS amp I'm still able to blow up my living room if I wanted to (but I won't because it's not "musical" to do so ;-) ) They do sound "analytic" compared to my big Dali speakers in my home cinema set, which sound a lot warmer, but the Monitors are definitely better suited for playing music. But I guess it's all a matter of taste.. Off course they're not as boomy (and flat and unbalanced) as your Magnats or Cerwin Vega's and to each their own but to me those things are kid's toys, who want their EDM to sound like they're in a club and blow up the block but those things couldn't light a candle to the definition, soundstage and level of detail these Monitor Audio speakers have. I used to have boomy speakers of the Magnat-type and when I switched to these Monitor Audio's it was like things really opened up, appreciating the music I already loved even more..

Hi. I currently have these, and have owned them for about a year. These are the best speakers I have ever had, and I've owned plenty. If you're a serious reviewer of speakers you should at least take amplifier matching to koncideration. Theese sound Amazing with my Hegel H160. I can agree that the lowest and deepest bass isn't there, but thats what young punks thinks is important. The best speakers are those who can REPRODUCE the music in the way the music was intended to sound. A good Amp and theese do the jo brilliantly. PS: A good integrated don't have "loudness" adhustment or for bass, treble etc. its just there to REPRODUCE.

when you go to a concert of your favorite band/singer you want to feel that bass when you stand in front of them. I know that it is impossible to reproduce a live on stage sound in the living room but we can try to come as close as possible. Without proper bass the sound will not satisfy most of us.

I just got the Rs6 and the Rs8 yesterday, i ve seen a couple of reviews that say that the bass is too thin, wtf are you talking about? I ve paired mine with a Pioneer cd player and a Taga TA400mic and they sound amazing. They are tight and punchy, the Rs8s go lower than the 6s but theres plenty of bass, i would suggest playing with placement a bit more.

Hi there Andrew, i own a pair of monitor audio's from the bronze line. I don't use them much because they sound quite metallic and most of the time my ears are tired because of my work. Monitor audio speakers are VERY susceptible to amp matching. I do think though that the midrange is very clear.

These are current hungry speakers, they need driving with a quality, impedance matched amp (not just a powerful one and not a receiver) and they are incredible. They are very exposing of a poor source. I use these with a Azur650. Use decent cables too. I had difficulty in toning the bass down.

On my set, which has a decent 2x80watt Marantz amp (not a whole lot of power) they actually sound very bassy already.. I had to use the baffles in the rear ports to correct some of the boomy frequencies.. I love the way these things project the bass towards the listener. If I go and sit at the sweet spot the bass sounds very defined and well balanced and the sound stage is just out of this world! If you close your eyes you can see where every band member is located in the mix. They do sound analytic though, especially with my Cirrus Logic DAC they produce very bright highs, which I like very much because I'm into details, but this sometimes repulses people, who like a bit of a warmer sound, like a lot of B&W's produce for instance... It's always a matter of taste of course..

But the overall sound quality will be much better than the magnat, simply because they are so detailed, you have to know what good sound is, good sound is not all about bass mate, you should ALWAYS use a subwoofer, preferably 2 of them. one for each channel. if youre forcing deep bass through the front mains youre doing it wrong, so so wrong. also your room has no sound treatment whatsoever, maybe you should learn about sound quality before you comment? these are the flattest speakers ive ever heard and thats a very good thing. and by the way, classical music can play much deeper than dance music, old organs can hit 18hz, i feel you dont really know what youre talking about fella.

I would recommend a 10 gage speaker wire and try it again. I think using a 300 to 400 Watt amplifier might get you what you want. Try a Emotiva XPA GEN 3 modular amp, if you want quality at an affordable price! 2 channel around $1,200 then you can add more channels if you want because it's a modular amp. At $200 per channel, not bad, not bad at all... I'm pushing 490 watts on 2 channels on 4 Ohm speakers. JT

This is yet the other problem with modern audio, you have these designer metro-sexual speakers to go with the limp wristed modern receivers and they just don't compare to stuff 20 years ago or older. That is what sucks, because I have a pair of cerwin vegas from 2000 and with a good older receiver, they pound something fierce. With modern receivers they are totally wasted speakers because the bass frequency is routed to the sub output on the receiver and almost none of it goes to the main speakers, even when the sub output is turned off on the receiver.

The problem is that man aren't real man anymore. Th wife decide everything in the house. Man and wife go together to the audio shop to buy a new stereo. 95% of the woman don't care how it sound, they only are interested in how they look. KZbin have very good statistics. My movies are viewed 92% man and 8% by woman. Sound is a man thing, technics is a man thing. But man let their ears hang down to their partners to often these days. I really would not care my partners taste and I also wouldn't care if she would find the stereo ugly. I would just made my stereo how I want it and would not take her with me to the audio shop. Taking a wife to the audio shop is the biggest mistake you can make as a man. The only thing what is left for a man they can decide 100% over is the stereo, all the rest is already the womans taste. And woman don't want to see speakers. they find big speakers ugly. Ask any woman you know and you will have the same answer from all. Brands know this and that is why they make slim speakers. They design speakers for the looks these days not for the sound. Satellite speakers with a sub is just a big joke but this is women's perfect sound system.

Dude no offence but your "testing" sucks, first of all sticking your poor camera into driver doesn`t prove bad bass on contrary shows that you don`t have space for real speaker testing, stereo imaging, placement, mic that is not bolted to cheap camera! Once you achieve that, record sound and give opinion or better yet let people decide. Also if you want to test something you do not just jump from station to station on your radio, that is just lame.Use good source music likes of quality CD recording, or FLAC file from your PC, you would be surprised by the resulting sound. Talking about difference between 30Hz and 38Hz made me laugh, you should know that human ears cannot hear anything bellow 50Hz or anything above 20000Khz, thus speakers that go that low use that just as specification filler, if you love bass this much only option is to go with subwoofer or with really old vintage box that has something like 12" drivers on them. Monitor Audio creates amazing quality speakers (i do not work for them) i just had and have some of their models and they have great imaging and plenty of bass, even in a small bookshelf RS1 (which i had for years) that little fellow kicked ass of German floorstanders (Heco,Magnat...), now i`m proud owner of RS8 and they are amazing speakers that fill 20m2 room with absolute greatness in terms of sound. Last note, for everyone that wants best from Monitor Audio you gotta know two things : 1.They are picky about amps, low quality, weak amps are no no (feed them trough Marantz or old Pioneers) ! 2.If you listen poor quality music sources likes of radio, mp3, just skip MA speakers (they need and should get FLAC sorce or CD,SACD......then they shine and give you experience you will not forget anytime soon! !!!

Thx for the input. I hear a very clear difference between for example 25 and 28HZ. If it was true what you say subs would be a waste of money and nobody would buy them. All the speakers starting with 50hz miss lots of bass and I hear the difference. If you cant hear the difference between 20, 30, 40 and 50 hz there is something wrong with your ears. Normally I place speakers in a stereo setup but these speakers sounded so bad that I didn't even wanted to do that for testing. You can hear from only 1 speaker in 15 seconds if a speaker is good ore bad. stereo make it nicer but doesn't change the soundquality. I can even test on single speakers, don't need stereo for that. The rs6 is not a bad speaker but also not a good speaker, plenty speakers out there for under the 100 euro who sound better. I have jamo concert 5 now here, these sound much better than the rs6, even if they are antique speakers. If you ever have the change to hear those very expensive(I don't have them but heard them) 50 cent headphones with that very low bass you simply hear the difference between the 50 cents and for example headphones who start at 20hz. You bought the rs8 and not the rs6...the rs8 start at 33hz, that's a very big difference with 38 hz, that's the reason you paid extra for the rs8 and didn't buy the rs6. When you go to a live concert with a small space the sound you hear is the best possible because of the big speakers and subs who reach far under 20hz....that's why we love so much these live concerts.

Subwoofers are only absolutely necessary for digital home cinema signals where the LF has been isolated on the sound mix, or Pro gigging gear. As a friend of mine who builds massive PAs once told me, with Pro gear, you go loud, or you go low. Never both at the same time. Generally commercial speakers up to and icluding 12/15" driver 2 ways only go as low as 57-60hz. That is why Pro systems employ separate crossovers sending everything low (say 80hz, or 120hz) to the subs, and everything above that frequency to the mid/high tops. Speakers do this naturally when the split the signal between woofer and tweater. There are of course some notable exceptions of course for active PA speakers. However, a really good set of home hifi speakers can do the lot. For example the speakers above (which I have), go down to 34hz, therefore a sub isnt essential, but they cannot maintain those lows AND pump it out at a high SPL (volume)they are made for more home use. This is how people blow really very nice home speakers when they have a house party!

I don't know nothing of speaker building techniques, but what you say make sense.The thing with most modern speakers is that people want slim speakers. They use 2 ore even 3 smaller bass speakers and say that 3 x 6 inch speakers will produce the same bass as 1 very large woofer, but that is just not true. All these new speakers have a ugly bass. I prefer speakers with 1 ore 2 big woofers from minimal 8 inch. Last week I bought the magnat zero 7 because I blew up one of my woofers in the zero 5. The zero 7 have 2x8 inch woofers, they sound superb, these audio monitors are not even half the quality the zero 7 produce. One of the modern speakers I like is the canton karat 790 ore asw genius 400, both of these are quality speakers and have a large woofer on the side. I did not heard them yet and scoring will be difficult because both of them are very expensive second hand. Just hoping that I have luck one day to score one of these, they looks very promising but for now I am very happy with the magnat zero 7
@exoticg9
@exoticg9 10 жыл бұрын
vintage stereo Its simple, the way those woofers are positionedit's like lifting a sub from the floor, the bass will vanish. Just like you i prefer good strong stereo without any sub. You have some nice speakers there, i love the magnat's. I would love to have a pair to connect along with my vintage 1989 Technics SU-v65A beast amp. I'm sure one day i will see you reviewing them :)
@vintagestereo
@vintagestereo 10 жыл бұрын
exoticg9 Wow, the technics is so beautiful, I almost had one a few months ago but the price went to hgh and i lost it. They don't show often on the second hand market but I am patient and know I will score it one day. I was so lucky to score a pair of magnat's zero 7 last week for 75 euro!!!. They are ugly because the original color was white and they painted it black. On some places the black paint is gone and you see the white color. I will make these speakers as new again, give them a professional paint job. I always loved my magnat zero 5 speakers, never heard a matching sound until these. These zero 7 blew my zero 5 away. Only problem is that I can't play on normal levels anymore because the bass is so deep I don't want my neighbours to complain. At the moment I have 4 big speakers in my house. I will do a VS test soon because I bought a professional mic for the job. What I will test is the zero 7, asw cantius 4, jbl ti600 and the magnat project 5. Should be fun hearing these against each other. I think the zero 7 will win this easy but I didn't heard the asw and project 5, Have them here but no time to test them yet.When you have a pair of zero 7 all speakers will vanish, the sub is so low that I even don't need loudness anymore. On my zero 5 I use loudness when I played music in the night on very low volume, these zero 7 are always sounding deep, even with low volume. I have them now playing on a yamaha cr-2040 and they sound perfect. I was never a fan of yamaha because the lack of bass. But in combination with the zero 7 the bass is perfect. I also tested them on a marantz 4300 but the marantz is to dark for the zero 7, To deep. I will do a vs test soon between the marantz and the yamaha. They sound totally different, the marantz sound so F** deep with these speakers while the Yammy is brighter an I think more honest. The problem with these tests is that you need a pc with a very good soundcard to hear the difference good and it will always sound different because you will play the test over different speakers. When you hear this test the best is through headphone. but I love making these vs test..

That is a SUPER simplistic way of looking at it. Although the floor would reinforce bass output, having a speaker cone closer to the floor does not necessarily equate to 'better' bass. I mean, caaammmaaaannnnn - are ya new to this stuff? lol
