Thanks, enjoy the content and information. My intro to MA was the bronze br1 and had a similar experience with those little gems. First driven by Cambridge azur540a, then Marantz 2252b, and Integra, Yamaha rxv2500. Finally, went with B&K st2140 separate, to finish that night and into next day in total 2channel enjoyment. But it was that initial Cambridge and Monitor Audio combo that sparked the WoW factor! Monitor fan ever since, the end.

I have a pair hooked up to a Prima Luna amp and preamp - happy with the sound! By the way great cover by Karen Souza off the Essentials album. Acceptable and ok, I’ve listened to crazy high end systems with all the exotic cabling and power conditioners but to get to that level is the price of a house! And there is always something better coming out, which is good for me because I only buy “used” hifi from those seeking nirvana. Cheers Thomas, your reviews are awesome!

I bought the RS6 8 months ago (about 200€, MA ist hardly known in Germany) because I liked the tweeter of the old Monitor Audio One very much. It was kind of a blind purchase because of the brand. I was not knowing what to expect... The first few months I enjoyed the clear and analytic sound with a Onkyo midrange AV. That was fine for me. BUT: With a switch to the way more powerful NAD C372 the RS6 opened up like crazy. I do agree in every statement you gave in this video. There is no wish for a RS8 or any upgrade around this line. It is totally balanced and it sounds just right. The change to a powerful amp added loads of bass performance and control. I am amazed by the sound, especially piano and string parts are way out of the 1.000$ league. My opinion about the tweeter: It is the tweeter I was searching for....and even better than I expected. Monitor Audio made this one so right... there is no other choice for me in this class. Sadly, the design is truly ugly ^^

Thanks for the comment. I took a look at the specs of NAD c372, nice intergrated amp. Your speakers have still plenty more potential and already with a 150w amp, you are getting such amazing performance, imagine what happens when you drive it with a good 300w+ high end setup :)

Have MA RS6 with Yamaha RXV2700 and they have been fine for stereo. I always suspected they could do more, because music from certain Blueray movies really makes them come alive compared to music on my CDs. I just added a Parasound A21+ amp and that made a giant difference for the better. The sound became richer with much more defined bass and midrange at low volumes. I know there are better speakers that can be paired with that amp, but I’m really happy with the improvement I got. And the MA RS6 really do sound great.

Did you ever bi-amp or how did you have them connected (wired top/bottom/bi?) I have to get a cheap replacement. Really love my RS6, but don't want to make them anemic. Hi, I have been using the MA RS6 with a Nad 352 and Chord carnival speaker wire for 10 years and in my opinion the sound is very good and I have not felt the need to upgrade either the amp or the speakers. The sound is not bright in my opinion and is played with the tone controls bypassed. The bass notes can be heard and is tuneful the midrange is clear and detailed as is the treble. The one thing I do know is I would have to spend a lot of money to improve on the sound. The only upgrades I'm looking to do is a make my own power cables with some Belden mains cable and buy more Records and CDs. These speakers are capable of awesome bass in the right environment (Large room) with the right equipment.

A few years ago, I demod Totem Arros alongside the RS6, powered by a Leema Pulse. The results were surprising: fully expected the Totems to be head and shoulders above the RS6s. The Arros presentation was stunning in terms imaging, but the gap wasn't that vast, given the price differences. If you have a tight budget, using a smooth sounding (Arcam, Marantz, Creek, Audio Analogue....) RS6s are hard to beat.

I'm impressed by your review on MA Silver RS6, but all the demo I see are either Jazz or pop, is it also good for classical music? People recommend RX6 for that, problem is it's discontinued. In my new videos, I use star wars as a compromise. The problem with classical music is that I have not know how to listen to classical music to make a comment on it, and I don't. These kind of speaker can be fatiguing, 100% since it has metallic tweeters. It's depends on each person's tolerance. The RX6 is discontinued so you can only buy on used market. @ThomasAndStereo 6 жыл бұрын
seems like a good price. Now, depending on your amp, there is a chance it will sound a bit bright, so keep that in mind. Now the bigger problem is if you are using it as front left and right, then ideally, you want the matching RsLCR. ( i did a review on it too) else you will have the timber match problem. Meaning if a car go from left to right, at the left, it will start sounding like a posche for example, once it hits the middle, sound like a ferarri and then a posche on the right. Of course I am exaggerating but you get the point. just go listen if you can to see if it is your kind of sound.

@ThomasAndStereo
@ThomasAndStereo 6 жыл бұрын
Its interesting you mentioned the Radius as I was thinking to pick one up for fun locally. Someone is selling 5 for $350 cdn. The thing about getting small speakers like these is you are buying it for the space & look. So don't expect immersive sound field and big sound. On top of that you need a good sub to intergrade with them. That is fine as long as your expectation is that. Now if you say you want good sound for music and power speakers but still need it compact, then you have to spend the extra money to get the Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micro. Now those I had them before and they can rival big speakers when paired with good sub.

Hi Thomas, I own these speakers since 2008 and initially they run with a NAD C352. Very good overall performance (midrange and highs when grill removed), except from the bass that was quiet loose and uncontrolled. The positioning of these speakers is truly significant since because of the rear port, they must be positioned far away from any back/side wall. Around 2011 I replaced the NAD with a Cambridge Audio 840Av2 (120W/8 Ohms, 200+W/ 4 Ohms). Very big difference in terms of sound openness and bass control. Although one could still describe the bass as loose. Therefore I wonder what a difference would make an even stronger amp in bass control and if its really worth it, by taking into account two facts: 1. The max power handling of the speaker (120W) 2. The difference between the cost of such an amp and that of the speaker. Cheers!
@ThomasAndStereo
@ThomasAndStereo 5 жыл бұрын
I would say these speaker can benefit from more power. Having said that, bass control is determine by damping factor not power. What you can try do, is put a sock to cover up the bass port, it will tighten the bass but you will lose bass, you then put it close to the wall. See if that helps to get your sound.

@@ThomasAndStereo It would surely be very interesting to hear your opinion. It's a niche speaker company. Though they are from Denmark, but unlike bigger companies like Dynaudio, Dali they rely on the company's owner feelings and subjective appreciation and not really on measurements :). Hi, i have the same speaker. And i have the chance to use it with creek destiny amplifier. As you know, it is the same amplifier in the stereophile review. But it's not powerful as your amps. What is your opinion about this combination? Can it drive those speakers well enough?
@ThomasAndStereo
@ThomasAndStereo 6 жыл бұрын
My issue is that it's 85w. It might be good quality 85w and you get fantastic high and mid, I feel you will be lacking in the lower end of the bass. Usually, from my experience, that translate to very sharp highs and sometime fatiguing. I don't know about your amp and I am curious how do you feel about it? There is always a question of synergy. For me, you are seeing 60% of your speakers potential. At the end of the day, if you find it sounding nice and non fatiguing, then that is what's important. Keep in mind that once you pair it with a 300w power amp, it will take it to a new level. I am currently using it with my accuphase p266 rated at 130w @ 8 ohm and I don't get that wow feeling compare to my bel canto 1000 (500w @ 8 ohm which i just sold). I auditioned it yesterday at someones home who has it plugged to an older model marantz av amp and even he admit at high volume, it hurts his ears.

@@ThomasAndStereo Hey Thomas, what happened to the MA GX300 video? I would very much like to hear your thoughts on them! I have the MA Silver RX6's and am wondering wether an upgrade is worth it or not. Thank you! Also which amp would you recommend for the MA silvers under a $1000/€1000?

I know what you mean about the MA's soundstage... It's ... okay. Acceptable. I still kind of wish they had a little better pin-pointing, though...

For the price, I find it amazing. Every time I put it on, I am amazed by it. That is even when I switch from my focal 926 to it. It's possible I find it very good because of the preamp and amp (Bel canto pre2 + bel canto 1000s) I used which can make a big difference.

That bel canto gear looks beautiful, and gets lots of rave comments and reviews (I've never actually heard any, though). At 500 wpc of class D power, i'm sure those RS6's get muscled around perfectly. Which version of the 1000s do you have? Do you find them 'dry' at all, like some people suggest for that type of amp?

I have the first MK1, would love to try the MK2 but they are so expensive. It is more 'dry' relative to Class AB amps BUT its not the same as all those AV amps out there. It really can rival AB class and certain things it do better. My friend's Jeff Roland amps are class D and they sound amazing, well they better be for they are $70k new. Point is class D can be amazing. Working on improving my videos, appreciate the comments.

Congrats Ron. As I mentioned in my review, they are fantastic and let me know how they sound. Some love it, some don't , hopefully the rest of your equipment will make it shine.

*((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( QUICK QUESTION IF YOU DO NOT MIND ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))* I have the exact speakers, color and all... I use them in my recording/mastering home studio. When I purchased them from the pawnshop,I set them side by side and used a Sony receiver and my phone to play a track - it sounded like Michel Jackson was sitting right in front of us! Sense then in my studio, I use a BEHRINGER A500 to power it and it does sound good but I am not getting that same ( it sound like he i sin front of me kind of thing ) *I run RME interface and hand made cables, what would be a great poweramp for this speaker that is actually affordable?*

I think most important is that you have enough power to bring out the low end power. Sadly , I think today, only class D amps can deliver 200w to 300w and cheap. I personally liked the Simaudio Moon i5 but it is only 100w about so although it sounded good, it lacks punch.

@@ThomasAndStereo *Well that has changed now! CROWN XLS DRIVE CORE 2 series! And you know what we run those and when we want a TUBE amp we add an ART MPA-2 before the amp, I can not tell you what it does man but man when we compare to Macintosh and other tube amps and did blind listening test and man i got to tell you the results were over whelming. In this age of Aquarius the line between marketing jargon and what things **#actually** are is being deleted for those who can LET GO.*

The bottom is there. Did not sound to bright. Local dealer carries them. Maybe I'll go listen to them.

The strong bottom end helps. I think they are replaced by the RX6 and now the silver 6 or 8?

RX 6 and RX 8 also discontinued. Looks like the 200 is what's made now.

He's talking tosh. I've owned RS6 since 2006. I've used various budget amps and they sound great - as long as the amp has a smooth presentation (Arcam, Nad, Roksan). Currently using entry level Leema amp.

To make the most of the RS6s: Avoid using them on hard flooring (carpets or rugs will absorb any nasty frequences like a sponge). Amps such as Arcam A29 or Creek Evo will eliminate the metallicy treble. You don't need to spend 1000s to make the RS6 sing, just a amp that is sympathetic to the RS6s tonal qualities. Imo the Bel Canto won't do that. You don't necessarily need lots of power, but an amp that delivers power clean and correct.

Yup. I saw your video. I personally had to drive it with 300w of power to get good bass from it.
