Police escort Edinburg High football player from game for hitting referee

Edinburg High senior Emmanuel Duron rushed onto the field and instigated a physical confrontation with the referee that ejected him during a game against PSJA High. Duron was escorted out of Richard R. Flores Stadium in Edinburg by Edinburg CISD police officers while the official was evaluated in an ambulance for concussion symptoms.

Fun Fact: The player who allegedly assaulted the referee in this incident was arrested by the Edinburg P.D. in March of 2022 after being found asleep in his vehicle on a roadway. According to police the odor of marijuana in the vehicle lead to search where plastic bags containing 6 grams of cocaine were discovered. He was then charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, which is a second-degree felony in Texas carrying a potential prison sentence of 5-99 years and a fine of up to $10,000. The assault charge for the football incident was still ongoing at the time of his arrest.
