Correction: Stan did not study at Wolverhampton university. He studied at Sandwell college. Unfortunately, he passed away in his last year just before qualifying for his HND/C. We miss him. He was a lovely man.

As far as I know, RAW files don't have color spaces assigned to them as It carries all the color data that your sensor can record and that's why Adobe LightRoom works with ProPhoto RGB (much bigger color space than Adobe RGB). As the interval between calibrations, It depends on the quality of you monitor. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm really into color management right now and I want to be sure of all of It. Nice video! Thanks!

Daily re-calibration seems quite extreme. Do you have any numbers on the regular divergence from the calibration profile over time?

A most interesting and instructive video, Vic. However, I notice, at the very beginning, of your discussion you advise that this relates to "self calibrated, hardware calibrated" monitors. Just wondering whether all Eizo monitors are "self calibrated, hardware calibrated" monitors. I am considering purchasing the Flexscan EV 2750 and there is no mention of "hardware calibrated" in the specification/description. If this monitor is not "self calibrated, hardware calibrated"; I presume that I should calibrate it in the normal manor, using my Spyderpro 5 Elite! Brian

Hi there! It is a nice video thanks a lot for your efforts. I have a little question: Lets say i have an eizo monitor and i calibrated it. Then i need to choose that calibrated profile in photoshop-color settings to see the right colors right? Because photoshop needs to make connection between my video card and monitor. Here is the question: Which color space i should choose when i a save raw image? The first step opening the raw image, saving as tiff for example. Second step will be retouching. I should choose calibrated monitor profile again? Lets say my work is high end beauty retouching and it is gonna be printed. So, no SRGB. I am in europe so ECIRGB is better than AdobeRGB i guess. Or i should choose calibrated monitor RGB as a profile? If i choose calibrated monitor RGB profile, can someone else read that file with correct colors? Printer guy for example? I am a bit confused at that point. I would be appreciated if you can enlighten me :)

Hi, great video. I just calibrated my external monitor and all files look great after exporting to jpg. But when uploaded on the web the colors are way off..... cand figure out what goes wrong. In the export menu I set it to srgb. Do I still forgot something? Hope to hear from you. Best Johnny

I know you asked to this two years ago but I never saw a response so I wasn't sure if you have figured this out yet. It seems like a color space management. Your monitor is colorspace managed, so is Photoshop, etc. Most of the internet is not. Meaning, if you exported the jpg in an adobe RGB colorspace it would appear washed out with colors way off when viewed on the internet and most browsers. If you exported the final jpg as sRGB color space, this shouldn't happen as the browsers will properly display that by default. I've seen this several times when helping clients over the years and it's usually due to an adobeRGB colorspace baked into the final jpg unloaded and viewed online. Exporting to sRGB for the internet generally solves that issue. Once, I saw PS and a few other programs mess up color but that was due to a problem with the ICC profile from i1 profiler. I reset everything on that PC, recalibrated and it solved it. I hope you already figured this out and can disregard this post, but just in case I thought I'd chime in.

I own a spider 4ellite, and have recently purchased the Eizo Cs230. Should I use the Datacolor or the Color Navigator software for calibration. Secondly, there seems to be no documentation regarding the 10bit capability of this particular monitor. Is Cs230 considered wide gamut? And If not, does that mean that it will show properly in Adobe lightroom (which doesn't support 30bit viewing)?

How is spider working for you? I used color munki and it completely messed up the contrast and colors, to the worse! Any idea how to manually get it back? It don't have a function of reset it back.

raw is actually more than adobeRGB.... its more than profotoRGB... well.... the sensors can capture more than we can display :)

Groo Yes you should calibrate in a darkened room, at least with no light landing on the screen.

Hi nice video can I ask, when using your monitor with the spider it looked like it was a fully automatic task is this correct, as I have an incredible poorly designed monitor ( iiyama prolite XUB279OHS ) which makes the task almost impossible I cant see the buttons as they chose to etch black on black? then it takes 3 buttons to try and do one task .. needless to say I wont buy from them again. So if I buy an EIZO with out the built in calibration, will I have an easier time doing this. :) Im looking for something 27" no slower than 6MS but good accurate colour.

sadly i got cx241 which is not uniform, in fact it has a very poor panel, it's much brighter in the left side than in the right, so, i'll never be able to be sure in which half should i calibrate the monitor. i can't recommend it for those who need an accurate image. unfortunately i'm doomed to work with it until i get money again for a good monitor.

Victor Aberdeen no. i tried to return the monitor for replacement a few days after i bought it, less than a week, and it was refused. i used the monitor for about 3 to 5 days, for tests, and after i confirmed that the panel wasn't uniform they wanted me to send it for repair and not for replacement, with an expected delivery of more than one month. i found it so ridiculous, to be forced to wait one month for the repair of a monitor that i bought already damaged, that i decided keep it. i'm still using that monitor, it still has the same problem, but i got used to work in half of the screen, i have the right side of the monitor calibrated and i use the left side for tools only.

The only time I have seen a monitor as you describe is when an old calibration devise has been used. It was obvious because the factory modes were perfect! How have you calibrated the monitor?

I've seen Eizo, but at 6500k it too blue, even Inkjet paper's are not that much blue, take for example Canson Baryta, it's Neutral White, much warmer than Eizo Monitors Whites...I'm not a specialist, but just saying what I saw...that doesn't means Eizo's are inferior....they are great....
