Thank you for the update!! I'm in the middle of helping a friend build out their new computer, and they are going with 1440p for their monitor. Was trying to go through all of your recent videos since the last roundup to try and get an idea for the best ones to get. This made it SO much easier! Wonderful content as always!

It's crazy to me that people still haven't upgraded. I got a 1440p monitor back when the 1070 came out, so like 7 years ago. I get it though, not everybody wants to do it, as it makes everything harder to run, but it's such a nice upgrade in clarity.

Glad to see the LG 27GR83Q getting the MUB seal of approval! I bought it around a month ago, which felt like a bit of a gamble because there weren't many reviews on it. Going from a garbage tier 15 inch 1080 60hz laptop display to this thing has been an absolute game changer.

About 1 year ago, I picked up the Gigabyte M32QC on sale from Newegg for around US$250. It's ridiculous the prices that they are going for now. With that said, I've been happy with my choice. I went with it because it is the VA panel and not the IPS one. I wanted the better contrast rate and blacks of the VA panel. I did have one issue with it. One of our cats took a header right into the panel, when something spooked her as she slept on my lap. It caused a black blob to appear at the bottom of the screen. Gigabyte fixed it with no questions asked. They even professionally color calibrated the replacement panel. From when I shipped it, the total turnaround was about 2 weeks.

An idea to implement for recommendation videos: showing screen moddels similar to the one being recommended that didnt make it because at the time of their review the price was too high. I have seen the screens you recommended (as cheaper and better value) hold their price while similar screens (at the time of their review more expensive and worse value) got discounted, making them a better buy in the end

In regards to the budget 1440p 240hz monitors, Does the LG 27GR83Q perform better in fps titles than the GIGABYTE M27QX? I'm considering 1440p mainly so my gpu is getting used more than it is at 1080p, and yes I do want a better content viewing situation with 1440p, that's not my main goal. I do enjoy single player or story based games, but my main game area are esports titles. I want to go for something 1440p that isn't going to shatter my wallet while still being competitive.

When using a colorimeter to calibrate a monitor, does it change colors wrt the color profile set in the monitor or with respect to the monitor's color gamut? So if I set a monitor to Srgb and then calibrate it, does it fix the colors considering the clamp imposed by the monitor's applied color space?

Worth noting that the old M27Q is being slowly phased out here in Europe and the M27Q v2.0 is sold in its place. It's much closer to the M27Q-P and has an RGB sub-pixel layout instead of BGR. Considering the M27Q-P is next to impossible to find here, the 2.0 version (generally advertised as 165Hz instead of 170Hz but they can still go to 170Hz no problem) is a good consideration.

I’ve got the Dell G2724D and I game on PS5. I really wouldn’t bother paying more money on other 1440p monitors, unless you want OLED and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, which the doesn’t really make a difference on console, but I’m unsure if the bandwidth makes a difference on PC. That’s the 2.1 bandwidth I’m referring to that doesn’t make much difference on console, but of course OLED does The Dell has HDMI 2.1 but it has the lower 24Gbps bandwidth instead of the higher 48Gbps, but it works perfect for VRR on the PS5 It has DisplayHDR 400, which is good brightness with 400 cd/m2 and peak brightness 450 cd/m2 and although it isn’t true HDR because it isn’t OLED, it still has good HDR modes with different brightness levels It also has almost zero ghosting even in extreme response time mode It retails for £279, but I was lucky I saw it on sale for £209 on Dell website and grabbed it Seriously, just to have a couple of extra small features that won’t make much difference at all in gaming, it’s not worth paying almost £100 more on other 1440p monitors like Gigabyte and MSI and it’s going to be very similar resolution quality as they’re all 1440p There isn’t any other 1440p monitor out there with HDMI 2.1 for that price and all the other gaming options are very similar on majority of the 1440p monitors

Sunlight doesn't really make a difference, in fact with phones at least it's easier to see a Samsung AMOLED screen than it was an LCD iPhone in the sun. Then again phones use glass not plastic. I really feel that the BGR subpixel layout on the Gigabyte M27Q-P shouldn't be as understated as it is. The moment I saw what that actually meant for text it went right back. I simply don't believe that the average person would take mild improvements to color gamut, pixel response/overdrive modes, brightness, etc with that compromise unless they literally will only ever use the desktop in order to launch a game. I'm not even that sensitive to weird subpixel layouts (currently use an QD-OLED and don't care about its subpixel layout at all), BGR was just that bad though. At the same time I do get the recommendation for it, objectively speaking, but it's a huuuuuge caveat.

According to Rtings The M27Q 1.0 has BGR layout. The M27Q P version uses RGB layout. And I believe the new M27Q 2.0 is using RGB but you can't tell what revision you're getting when you buy.

@@Novskyy621 Good point about narrow vision being better in some types of games. My 32" screen actually has a 27" bordered mode for that reason, running at a custom resolution to keep the pixel mapping 1:1 of course. Some players even use 4:3 aspect ratio and that's supported, too. My comment and this video are about 1440p at 32" not 4k. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I personally find the size of UI elements is so cosy and the sharpness of modern IPS is so good that peripheral vision is enough to get the key information from edge-of-vision HUD elements. Rev counter, compass, damage readout, event notifications, etc. But the games I play are quite slow-paced so this won't be true in some titles.

I was also considering one of the similar Samsung G7 models but wasn't sure I would like the curved panel and heard the Samsungs tend to have less motion clarity/more "smearing". on the LG the HDR sucks but SDR looks great and it seems for truly great HDR you need an OLED panel anyway, which is of course double the price. next upgrade going for the HDR OLED experience for sure.

I would love it if you had a gaming/HDR-productivity section; this would be a type of monitor that would be best for productivity during the day and gaming during the night. In my case, I work from home, so I use my computer during the day to look at spreadsheets, reports, code, have a chat window all the time, etc. (and other burn-in activities), hence why I'm hesitant with OLED, but as soon as I clock out, I may have a gaming session where I would love to get as much as frames and colors as I can get. My ideal monitor is IPS 1440P 240hz ultra-wide with (at least) HDR1000, but that monitor doesn't exist.

@@dIggl3r Good for you but I don't want to spend 1000$+ for a monitor that it has the risk/guarante to burn in. I also see myself with an OLED but in 10 years from now. (Hell, right now I have a 1080p TN panel 60hz at around 70$ which I bought in 2011, only now i'm looking for a new one in the range of 700$) And I know you want to defend your pick and say 1 of 2 things: 1. Burn in is user error. They used the monitor wrong. Didn't turn display off every 4hr for pixel refresh, or using it as a monitor is fundamentally stupid and you're an idiot for buying OLED for your use case. 2. Burn in doesn't happen. I have my display and it doesn't burn in. Because I didn't get burn in, your experience is invalid and I'm going to keep talking about how I don't have burn in. OLED is the best! Stop worrying about burn in you idiot. But you can not ignore the basic physics of how oled functions. Burn-in is absolutely an issue and especially in the windows environment where programs have a ton of static elements. An OLED monitor will be great for media and gaming consumption but should be avoided for hours of daily web browsing and productivity. So it comes down to your use and knowing what you're getting into. For all the people that say just don't worry about it, they must have the luxury of ignoring what happens when a $1000 monitor gets burnt in scroll bars and browser header or it has burnt the rest of the pixels to match to the point the brightness is very low. I would say if you're going OLED and intend to use it 8-12 hours daily be prepared to trash it in five years. This video should have had some other safe options too.

The upper end Samsung VA monitors, including the G7 are basically the only VA monitors that are virtually smearing free and despite being 3 year old VA monitor, it still has top tier motion clarity for 1440p 240Hz LCD panels. In terms of brightness and color specs it's still on par with other 1440p 240Hz options too, and it _does_ come with the extra contrast from being a VA panel. Even with the rudimentary edge lit local dimming, HDR looks passable. Not great, but better than nothing.
