We looked into Cooler Master's firmware update for the GP27U here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6TaoHqZot2YqZY

Firmware update released 11/24/22 and Read Me from 11/28/22. Reported changes 1) Adaptive Sync and Local Dimming can work together; 2) Fixed KVM signal input issues; 3) More color adjustments in all picture modes; 4) Adaptive Sync available up 160Hz. Just found the download on Cooler Master's GP27U product page under Firmware.

@@hudcat Yeah. I figured they've been pretty busy with other videos and monitors and stuff. Watched a Hardware Unboxed livestream PC build the other day where they had issues with MSI BIOS update so it took way longer then they thought but a couple hours later Steve and crew (minus Tim) were streaming on Gaming Unboxed playing Fortnite and his cousin (I think) was using the PC he just built. Then like a day later Tim had a GPU pricing update video. They've been doing a lot of testing too so they need a break. I suppose after the New Year Tim will have an update on this monitor with the new firmware.

Thanks for mentioning that gamma in SDR with local dimming is broken, hopefully, this gets fixed with an update. But doesn't this apply to a lot of other FALD monitors as well? For example, Samsung forces a setting called 'Dynamic Contrast', which screws gamma as well. But in the reviews of the Neo G9+G8/G7, you didn't mention this at all. Also, how should an effective SDR local dimming algorithm operate? In my opinion, the screen should have uniform brightness and only utilize its zones to dim darker shades and black to enhance the native contrast of the panel.

I want to add to the review of this monitor. I tried to setup triple 4k setup, however, only 2 monitors at a time were able to be connected while the 3rd monitor remained off. I checked around forums and found out the display port DSC function did not work properly. So, the monitor can only be used for single display or dual display mode. It is a very pretty monitor, but, the blooming artifacts really hurt my eyes. I tried to adjust settings, but, this was hard to do. I would suggest waiting for another year to see what happens in the OLED market, wait until prices come down , or wait to see if these mini-LED panels improve in their ability to be connected in a myriad of configurations. I did get the gigabyte m28u instead and although it has a softer showing in picture quality, it s 85-90% of the quality of the gp27u at nearly half the price. For this channel, a tutorial on how to tell if monitors can be made in triple monitor setups would be great. Will you be able to test the new firmware as of December somewhen soon? Great review, this monitor is basically all I ever wanted in a 27".

Any comments on the firmware update since it's already released?

2023 should be a good year for monitors. When this is available for under $500 it will be a worthy contender.

I'm thinking about getting a LG C2 42" now that it's under a grand. But I am wondering if there is some big breakthroughs in OLED brightness or refresh rate on the horizon. I keep thinking that if I can hold out for a 4k 240Hz screen that will be enough for the next decade.

$4 under a grand, or do you know of a better deal?

@@MultiNastyNate Amazon has occasionally had like deals with extra cash back points if you get it with an Amazon credit card.

I have a GP950 and next year I'll probably buy another 4k monitor, it will be this one if they fix the HDR+VRR issue, unless a better monitor appears.

So, the processing delay in HDR with local dimming is so bad, is this something fixable? But considering changing the brightness of all 576 zones each refresh cycle (and the local LC array drive voltages must also be changed too!) does seem to be huge amount of computation. Does that mean the current generation unit may not really solve this problem until some really high-power SoCs are considered?

Hey Tim could you review the best work from home monitor? I know you guys do gaming but may be more ppl than you think that want a great spreadsheet work monitor
@rcarter16902 жыл бұрын
Seems like a decent monitor but lots of compromises. Wish they could start making smaller OLED panels. You can get the 42” C2 for the same price as this but it’s a little big for my liking.

I think it would be great if they made this in white to go with their white nr200p. There seems to be a lack of white monitors in 4k high refresh rates

Argh - still no 32" 4k flat OLED tech display - or a reasonably priced good FALD LCD one... 😬 Great review and looks pretty good if you wanted a 27" 4K.

Why are exactly all monitor reviews locked in on gaming? How about, is it good for reading and working, as well as youtube and streaming movies?
@pedropierre9594Ай бұрын
Because that is the audience the very maker advertises for, if you want reading and working monitors there are monitors made for that specifically this one is made for gaming
