Seems they fixed most of the issues mentioned, as promised. Tempest GP27Q 2K v1.2.1 changes: Fixed 2k 165hz color banding issue. 2k 165Hz 10 bit should now work properly. SDR Local Dimming further improved. New option to enable or disable power to USB ports when monitor is in standby mode. Addresses the issue of KVM-powered peripherals not able to wake up monitor. Input select menu is now completely accessible and much more responsive in all no-signal input scenarios by tapping up on OSD joystick at any time. Firmware version is now listed in the OSD menu under System->Information-> FW Version. Fixed some additional bugs from previous firmware releases. The GP27Q is a monitor I've been watching for a while. It has the potential to become a "go to" monitor due to the quantum dot tech on a flat screen and refresh range at a reasonable price. However the issues around the firmware is frustrating. I doubt I am alone with feeling sick and tired of companies taking the mick out of consumers. It's bad enough with likes of giants such as nVidia and MS without having to put up with smaller companies behaving so poorly. "C'mon Cooler Master. You know better, so do better. Become a champion for the consumer".

I do get their rush with hurrying this firmware out the door so far. The competition is fierce and gamers demanded HDR + VRR. 😊 In my opinion, so long as I can see that the company CARES about it's customers and their products, keeps updating the firmware, then I am all good. (but they need to communicate with their customer serviced team... they have no idea this update is even out yet!) So in other words, if Cooler Master COMMUNICATES what it plans to do and what it is working on, until it is finished, then I will be more reassured in buying this monitor. I can wait a month or two for some minor fixes.

Hi Tim! It would be very interesting to compare the GP27Q with the KTC M27T20, them being the exact same monitor but differing in the panel type (IPS for the CM, HVA for the KTC). I've read that FALD with VA is a much better combo than with IPS. Also, the GP27U and KTC M27P20 Pro are literally the same monitor with same panel it would seem, so I think it would also be interesting to compare and see how each others tuning makes a difference. Sadly, it seems KTC is lagging behind on firmware updates, as they haven't addressed the initial issues with these monitors, but have offered the update this month (March 2023).

In this case, it's not great. The gamma goes pretty far out of whack, making mid-tones lose a lot of detail. In my experience, FALD on with contrast taken way down looks OK-ish, but not quite right. I want to add to the review of this monitor. I tried to setup triple 4k setup, however, only 2 monitors at a time were able to be connected while the 3rd monitor remained off. I checked around forums and found out the display port DSC function did not work properly. So, the monitor can only be used for single display or dual display mode. It is a very pretty monitor, but, the blooming artifacts really hurt my eyes. I tried to adjust settings, but, this was hard to do. I would suggest waiting for another year to see what happens in the OLED market, wait until prices come down , or wait to see if these mini-LED panels improve in their ability to be connected in a myriad of configurations. I did get the gigabyte m28u instead and although it has a softer showing in picture quality, it s 85-90% of the quality of the gp27u at nearly half the price. For this channel, a tutorial on how to tell if monitors can be made in triple monitor setups would be great. More importantly n how to spot these issues ahead of time before buying so we can also save our time, too. Overall, thisis the best channel for monitor reviews.

VRR via Gsync (haven't tested AMD/Intel) is still broken. Applications like Photoshop or Slack will crash the display output and disconnect the KVM. The KVM on the GP27U is borderline usable, if at all. Whenever the monitor has to adjust to a change in the input signal (screen blanks black for a significant amount of time), the KVM is disconnected from the upstream computer. It sometimes even takes long enough for games to open on the secondary display instead of on the GP27U.

This is an incredible monitor for the price, super deep blacks, amazing colors, decent HDR. The only issue i've had is really that is goes to black after switching to or from HDR, the only solution is to turn on/off the monitor. If you can deal with that i'd say it's a buy, to get something better you'd have to pay at least 400 euro more, if not more. Tried a couple now in this price range, staying with this.

Not really, the firmware is still so so broken it is not even fun no more. I can't install the latest firmware on my Q model the 1.4.1. If i use that firmware i end up on a death loop when i turn on my screen, only thing i see is a never ending CoolerMaster logo and nothing more. The monitor is getting no signal from the DP or HDMI, only solution is to unplug all cables and turn off the monitor, then plug it back in and turn it back on. The moment i restart my pc it is game over, you can start over. If the monitor turns to sleep it is over. I'm using 1.2.1 again, most stable for me. And guess what? No support from Coolermaster just dead silence nothing more from them.

I've got the Q model too now and it comes with 1.21 out of the box. Was one step away from installing the latest, then read a few reddit posts claiming that some of the settings get locked in hdr mode after the update (1.41). Kept the factory firmware and going by what you're saying - not even considering trying to update. Seems like CM software for these is a total crapshoot. Quite satisfied with the screen otherwise though.

Tim, I beg you! Become the champion of pc budget gaming by being the person who consistently informs the masses about CUSTOM RESOLUTION! The world of pc gaming at large is ignorant to the fact that they can set up an array of resolutions between 1440p and 4k for example, so they can have the fps as well as the graphics quality settings they want! 1530p 1620p 1710p 1800p 1890p 1980p 2070p...! these resolutions installed in our gpu's resolution options allow for the best gaming experience possible without the unnecessary and often abysmal side effects of upscalers like fsr and dlss. It's an absolute game changer having these and we're talking maybe only 4% of the gaming world knows about it. Because out of the 25 or so people I've brought it up to, 0 have been aware of it! And with '8k' kicking around the gaming world but not taking off CLEARLY there is a serious problem with people having this as a go to, all these 8K videos, choppy as can be , I can't what them as their performance drops into the 40's, all they have to do is do a custom resolution of 3600p and there video will look almost every bit of 8k but flow at 60fps easily. playing FH5 I get 95-105fps with max settings at 4k with my 3080, all i do is drop it to 2016p and I get my 115 desired 'frame-buster' GSYNC fps setting on my 4k 120 tv... flawless, beautiful, the scaler in that game creates nasty artifacts on the road and the DLSS option is a HUGE step back! I just don't understand why I'm the only person I've ever known to see and express this... not sure where I'm suppose to send you a question for videos where you answer comments but I'd love it if you could plug this in. Okay thanks Tim you are the monitor man! I'm currently looking into a monitor upgrade from my current 27" 1440p. Thanks to Monitors Unboxed, the GP27U is now on my list of likely alternatives. I have a question though: is the pixel density of 4k on a 27" unnecessarily high? My 27" 1440p monitor achieves a decent pixel density so I'm wondering how much it would really help to move to 4k. I'm currently torn between the GP27U and a 4K 32" monitor, and it feels like you'd get more use of 4k on a 32" rather than a 27". Thoughts?

@@jzo1414 I didn't know retina calculators were a thing. @@Muninnnr If you go by Apple's Retina calculations they go for 220 PPI so that's 5K at 27" and around 6K at 32" (216 PPI) which they showcase on their Apple Studio Display and Pro Display XDR respectively. I do know that a 27" 4K monitor at 163PPI sits in between what Apple considers ideal for their OS though there are people using the GP27U as a cheaper alternative to the Apple Studio Display and it work for them. If you're using Windows (or Linux) you can scale it to 150%-200% so the icons and text aren't too small. I personally wanted to go with 32" at 4K because of the smallish icons when I had a 27" 1440p monitor but 32" is too big for my space and not good for my eyes with how close I would have to sit (I'm not VESA mounting it to the wall or something).

I would not recommend the 27gp950 because of screen durability. Starting with the 27GN950-B LG screens are not lasting long enough. If you check ebay there are people selling them off cheap with vertical pixel-lines out of action (usually down the right-hand-side). My own GN950-B now has 4 deal pixel lines after 28 months. This also puts me off recommending other manufacturers that use these LG screens like the Phillips 279M1RV. Unless you are happy to write off your heavily used monitor after a couple of years.
