And not only is he acting, and writing, but this bad ass action film is going to be his directorial debut! Dev has combat training he wanted to show off for years now, but Hollywood dont wanna let a brown man lead a film like this, so he said "fuck it ill write the damn thing myself ANDD cast my self as the fuckin' lead". Peele saw the film and said "this NEEDS to be seen by audiences" and co signed tf out of it and gave it the buzz it deserves.

@billbill609410 ай бұрын
"Somehow" was a 30 mill purchase.
@billbill609410 ай бұрын
Dev Patel is mostly known for dramatic roles like Slumdog Millionaire and Lion, and while I doubt he won't be acting his ass off like he usually does, it seems he was itching for an excuse to use that Tae Kwon Do black belt of his. Said alright, if you won't give me an action movie, I'll make me an action movie. Jordan Peele had nothing to do with the making of the movie, but he saw it was going to go straight to streaming like so many amazing movies do these days and decided it needed better. So he bought it for about 30 mill from Netflix so it could actually get a theatrical release, which it looks like it deserves. The Hanuman myth is older than Son Wukong but they're related, like much of Chinese culture from Zen Buddhism to Gung-Fu, Journey to the West has its roots in India.

Fun fact: the song heard predominantly in the trailer is Panjabi MC's 'Mundian To Bach Ke' (or, specifically, the Jay Z-featuring version 'Beware'), uses drum and bassline from Busta Rhymes' Fire It Up, (which is in turn based on the theme from Knight Rider,) is one of the most well known pieces of bhangra music outside of India and the subcontinent, and was recorded in, survey says... Birmingham, UK, my hometown and home to the third largest population of Indians in Britain. Which doesn't sound like much, but when you're also second largest city and the biggest is London, you take what you get really. 😋

Regardless, around 10% of the Indian population speaks English, that might not seem like a lot, but it's around 130 million people, so especially when it comes to films aimed to be international it is not at all surprising it would be in English. Not every action movie is John Wick, my dudes. This reminds me of the grand tales of revenge from 90s South India. The heroes endure hell due to powerful corrupt, but seek revenge for their loved ones after training. There may or may not be divine bleasings involved, but whatever blessing they get is not noticeable. Here it seems Lord Hanuman may be the patron. I think we have a resurgence of those tales recently, the latest was a Kannada film called Toby. But Toby is closer to John Wick.

Instead of ending with discussions full of easily answerable questions asked into a void as you all can't answer them, why not instruct one of your staff to be off camera with the pertinent info who you can get answers from and he/she will share interesting info? Is it an American production? He/she answers. Is this Dev's directorial debut? What role does Jordan Peele have as producer? Etc. If you don't have any on location staff to do that then task them with doing the research, typing it up and sending y'all the document to read after the reaction is over. Obviously your employee would know to avoid giving spoilers but give y'all all the pertinent info to answer your Qs. Just a thought that imo would improve reactions for trailers.

Hope the movie isn't just a pseudo-Indian boot lick to Western audiences, given that Patel is British and Peele is American. I hope this is made in homage to the great Indian action movies of recent (especially south indian movies like rrr, salaar, kgf) and of their long history of showcasing rage, anger and action to social issues. I hope this is done tastefully, or it will just be another Western movie villifying social problems in another country, like poverty (as if it's some third world problem that the West doesn't also contend with), when those stories are best told by their own. Since some of you liked RRR, you guys should check Salaar (on Netflix, telugu language), Leo (on Netflix, Tamil language) and kgf 1 and 2 (on Netlix, Kannada language). Try to rest down the Western framework, and go with an open mind, eg the expression of emotion through song and strength.
