So the son worked in a chemical factory and one day because of some hazardous situation there was a lot of deaths caused in the factory and many workers were found dead. The company decided to give a sum of money to the families of the workers who faced casualty. The sun was also one of those victims. So the father got the amount of money he asked for in exchange of his son's death. Then the mother asked for her son to get back into life and it came true. As soon as the wish was made there was a Knock hard on the door. When the mother went to open the door the father made his last wish for the son to die again..... And this is where the story ended.... Written by William Wymark Jacobs...

So a brief and rough summary of the story is th dad makes the wish it moves, he drops it, nobody believes him and they all go to bed. In the morning the wife makes breakfast and the son goes to work, later in the day a man comes by to deliver that news that the couples son is dead and they offer them the exact amount of money he wished for. They process the news and the wife urges him to use his second wish to wish their son back to life so he does but he gets a terrible feeling about it and as soon as the son knocks on the door he uses his last wish and wishes his son gone. The end until it found the next person

I went over this whole story in school The son died and they got money from where he worked cuz he fell in a meat grinder so they got 200,000 pounds then the mom missed her son so she wished for him back but he would come back the way he looked in the meat grinder and the dad realized that and as the zombie was knocking on the door the dad used the monkeys paw to wish for his “son” to disappear.

The backstory behind it is that you make a wish but with every wish their is consequence. The dad wished for money and the son makes a comment saying "I don't think ill see the money even if it fell on top of me" (Basically saying he doesn't think that he would live to see it even if the money itself killed him) Then the General comes back and tells the couple that their son died but then offers them the amount of money that they wished for. The mother then goes crazy and demands to wish for the sons life back. They wish for it and hear a knock at the door. At this point their is only one wish left and the father knows that the person at the door could never be their son. So the father used his last wish for the son to disappear so he didn't have to face the trouble followed with his wish. (This is the version I read about)
