I've been experimenting with alternatives to the monkey fist myself. I have found that a 7L6B Turks head, doubled, is about perfect for a one inch core. just do one expansion on the 5L4B Turks head and double it. Use a mandrel that is slightly larger than the core.

Hi, Mark...would you reply how much cord is used to make a 3Part4Bite Turk's Head Knott to cover a small marble...I know the length of the cord will vary based on how long the other end is, but just a ballpark estimate would be nice--I hate to have too much or worse, too little? BTW, your tutorials are excellent...you would make a great classroom teacher...you are patient and show in detail the steps needed to be successful

Hi there! Thank you for your kind comment! The cord needed to cover the marble I used (5/8 inch in diameter) is between 3 and 3.5 feet once tightened. For a comfortable tying process I'd use 4 feet. Mark

Hey! What are you trying to say? Mark

Hey! I did address that in the video. Mostly it is useful, because it has a different look, it is easy to tie (I think a beginner can learn this one just as fast if not faster than a monkey's fist) and if tied flat, the turk's head requires no additional tools to make. I am sure for a sailor it would come down to speed and preference, but for decorative work, having more options is always preferable. Mark
