The first Monkey N Around video I saw was one of yours on the Falls Reservoir and it has ended up being one of my favorite places to paddle. It's clean and has the most beautiful scenery. We always have a great time there. Thanks for all you do to promote kayaking and bringing people together for great times enjoying each other's company on the water. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!

Absolutely. I can pull that off. When I sold my Tsunami a buddy jumped on it and he still has it. After the holidays I will get it back and do a comparison video.

So…you have come over to the dark side…and are paddling a Next??? What did you think? I love mine, but not practical for certain uses.
@MonkeyNAround5 жыл бұрын
I really liked the room it offered for packing gear. I was not impressed with the tracking on flat water, but I had a shorter paddle. I think a longer paddle would have helped me get a better stroke in the water. I did like the boat overall but I questioned how well the seat would hold up after a little abuse. I like the hybrid concept but I am not sure I want it to be an Old Town Next.
@mountainsnmoore2565 жыл бұрын
Monkey N Around A longer paddle makes a HUGE difference. I use a 260 with mine. And Nexts don’t have a rudder! They track much better than most canoes, but not as good as a rudder equipped kayak. And yes, I understand that some have had issues with the seats, but neither me or Josh have had any issues with our seats...yet. I think that it is the track system that causes the most problems. The seat itself is very comfortable. I’ve paddled 12 hours in a day with no problems.
@MonkeyNAround5 жыл бұрын
@@mountainsnmoore256 The seat was great for comfort that is for sure. I just wondered how well it would hold up in that track system. I was paddling with a 230 paddle and it was not cutting the mustard. I know they can handle the small class rivers with ease. I have some buddies who paddle them all the time and love them. One day I want to buy something along this line and the NEXT may end up winning out. I want to research more. I really enjoyed the ability to paddle a canoe like a kayak, and my son had tons of room to bounce around without causing me any issues.
@mountainsnmoore2565 жыл бұрын
Monkey N Around A lots of the guys up north use the Swift packboats. Basically the same configuration, but they are Kevlar. A LOT lighter, but I’m just bout sure how well they would hold up on all of these sharp rocks that we have.
@MonkeyNAround5 жыл бұрын
@@mountainsnmoore256 I have seen the same option in the NorthStar Canoe line. They are super nice and some models can handle the rocks of some rivers. Northstar has models for flatwater and for rivers and boats that weigh less than 40 pounds. It is amazing how light they are.

A PSI to update your video: As of Oct. 2021 the tunnels at Badin dam are NOT open. They have been gated off and posted with no trespassing signs. Which kind of makes the hard slog up the rapid right before them a waste of time.
@MonkeyNAround3 жыл бұрын
Yes the new owners of the dam closed access to the tunnels. It is a beautiful place to paddle but no longer able to access the tunnels.

Love the videos man I’m from the triad area of NC I’ve been to falls reservoir a few times but can’t seem to get back to the caves. The current is always so strong you have any recommendations on how I can get back to the caves? Thanks!
@MonkeyNAround4 жыл бұрын
I had trouble on one trip getting to them because of the current. I got out on the strip of land between dam and the spillway and walked my kayak up to the dam house. Then I was able to get to the cave opening pretty easy.
@iowamatt25195 жыл бұрын
What's up with the canoe, did u like it?
@MonkeyNAround5 жыл бұрын
I got the opportunity to test one out. I love the space and the fact you can paddle like a kayak but with the benefits of a canoe. I just wasn't pleased with the tracking: however I needed a longer paddle too. I think I want to run a river with one and see how it handles there.
@bobbystaats18464 жыл бұрын
Y’all couldn’t get in the caves on this trip are they blocked off?
@MonkeyNAround4 жыл бұрын
No they were not blocked off but they are posted no trespassing. That day there were folks at the dam and told us to stay out. I have been in them a few times but when someone is actually at the dam they run you off from entering them.

I live in stanly county, but I'm new here and I don't know where this is located. Would love to get my paddle wet here. Can someone tell me how to get to this launching spot?
@Nbens14 жыл бұрын
Make your way to the town of Badin and there’s a road called Falls RD that runs through the small downtown area of Badin. Take that’s road it will lead you all the way to the boat ramp for falls reservoir.
@MonkeyNAround4 жыл бұрын
There is really only one launch spot. The boat ramp going through Badin is the easier one. Sorry I missed your comment. Hope you could find them.
@robertsteele88383 жыл бұрын
Is the boat ramp safe ?
@MonkeyNAround3 жыл бұрын
This boat ramp I would say is safe as most. I have never had an issue parking there and it offers easy access to the water.
