I am a semi-retired caver watching your video from Arcola, Texas ( a rural extra-suburb south of Houston. I enjoyed your video. Some elitist cavers might be annoyed by you not wearing proper caving gear or saying something about proper caving techniques. But I think it is a well-made video and would like to have been on the trip with you.

Thanks for the video. I vicariously experienced a fear of heights and felt claustrophobic all at the same time. Glad to see this. Considering moving up to that area soon.

I grew up in Stany County and Falls Lake and surroundings was always a great spot. I particularly enjoyed the rocky terrain to the east, and all the little islands- the snakes on the islands, not so much.

Monkey N Around well I didn’t even know there was a cave on the land so now I’m trying to find the one on land
@MonkeyNAround4 жыл бұрын
@@jasonsfarm37 the paddle in caves are just east of the Dam House close to the spillway side. I have never found the other cave you can walk into. I am guessing it is on the Uwharrie National Forest side of the lake but I haven't spent much time exploring for it either.

That was a crazy cave and I can't believe you went in barefooted?? Not me brother. I liked the cliff jump as well. Good camera angles.

nice vid, brady. have been to morrow mountain, lake tillery, badin lake dozens of times, but the falls resorvoir area we never got around to checking out. looks very interesting. thanks for posting.

+Mike Bozart Thanks for your comments! Yeah, I was actually pretty blown away at how secluded and beautiful Falls Reservoir is,... compared to the other lakes in our area. It's truly one of those 'best kept secrets' in North Carolina. Check out the cave if you have time,... and the island with the Spring House on it.
@MikeBozart9 жыл бұрын
will do. oh, have you checked out the lake-water-filled (partially) caves at the base (below the main spillway (adjacent to the turbine house)? i was shocked to find photos of them on google images.
@Bradybrandwood9 жыл бұрын
+Mike Bozart I haven't checked those caves out yet. I tried once to get over there by kayak, but the rapids were high from the dam. They look pretty cool though. Would definitely like to check them out some day.

Interesting. Looks more like a Fault or Crevice than a solution cave. What is the rock? Doesn't seem to be Limestone...
@Bradybrandwood5 жыл бұрын
Kris Gasteiger Yeah I agree, it’s more sedimentary and volcanic type rock like a two large pieces that have been pushed over one another. I’m betting it was a lot larger in there thousands of years ago.

Me and a friend are planning a kayak day trip there in March. We will be putting in at Falls Rd. We really want to check out the cave and have also heard of waterfalls. So the cave is practically, directly across from the Falls boat launch, but to the left a little? Also, how far up/back off the water? We really want to check that cave out, the cliff jump, the old bi pass tunnels at the Dam, and possibly the waterfalls. Cannot wait to explore this area.
@Bradybrandwood7 жыл бұрын
Ace Mann yes, the cave is straight across the channel and to the left,... just at the base of a cliff. It's back in the woods about 100 feet from the water. If you watch the video a few times as I go up to it you should get a landmark or two with the shapes of the rocks there. The waterfall is a good haul upstream toward the dam, to the right just before you come to the island with an old springhouse on it.

Nice video. Me and my friends go to falls just about every week in the summer. The are some great cliffs to jump off of up near the spillway at the narrrows dam. I haven't been in this cave though; could you give me some landmarks to look for next time I go?

Interesting video. I'm gathering you were by yourself. The barefoot, jumping from heights while alone thing in perfect rattlesnake terrain isn't me at all, but otherwise, great. I've explored caves myself, and the feeling of letdown when I notice modern human activity is disappointing. The fresh feeling of discovery and wonder in locating a pristine grotto is rewarding.

Awesome, gotta check it out. Lots of unknown in the uwharrie areas. We ride DB at the trails and found Indian tools and weapons.

Maybe. I was in a jon boat painted like a coast guard cutter. I was about 100 ft away when you jumped in. Caught me off guard. Great video. I go out there every Thursday and almost every Sunday. When you say lower dam do you mean by the Tillery portage? You ever go up in the caves at the Badin dam they used to divert water? They get spooky quick.
@12voltchad12 жыл бұрын
Very cool. I was out there the day you filmed this. Little coast guard Jon boat. Where is this cave? I know about the two man made ones close to the dam used to divert water.

One of those caves behind the Falls Dam has a hole where Indians ground their grain but it's buried under accumulated crud that has washed in over the years. I remember it from my teens (I'm 48 now)

Hey Chris yep it's straight across to the cliff from where I put in on the video, then a little ways to the left along the cliff. It's pretty grown up and hard to see from the water.
