FYI: The tunnels are no longer open to paddling. They've been gated off and posted with no trespassing signs. a BIG bummer, kind of making the paddle not really worth the effort.
@Kayak7seas3 жыл бұрын
yeah, the fishing cabin has burnt down and now the tunnel is closed, it's such a shame because it was a pretty cool experience. I just don't understand how they can block waterway access like that.

So you were recognized from your videos on KZbin by a fan. That's pretty cool. I only get recognized from the wanted posters hanging at the post office and that episode on America's Most Wanted. I tell them they're confusing me with someone else and to shut up or I'll kill them with a claw hammer like I did those other people. Nice fall colors around that reservoir. Seems the new kayaks are working well. Great video.

We're taking these with us to FL, I'm curious how they'll handle the IRL when it get choppy
@CanoeingTheEdgeOfTheWorld4 жыл бұрын
@@Kayak7seas Well they should do well in the wind because of the low profile compared to a canoe or even a sit inside kayak. I don't know how their primary and secondary stability are but I'm assuming the hull design is very similar to any other kayak or even more stable since fisherman use them so much. They aren't made for speed so that should have been replaced by stability in the design. You are definitely going to get splashed some if there's a chop on the water which there usually is in the lagoon. My pet peeve is paddling in high winds. If the forecast wind gust are over 20 mph I won't even go out. It's not uncommon this time of year to have a sustained wind of between 10-20 on the open water of the IRL. Mid-afternoon is the worst as you know and it's going to be out of the NE all day. Lot's of sheltered areas but it can still be a real hassle if you have to go across any open water. Let me know how they perform.

@@CanoeingTheEdgeOfTheWorld We may put this on our December agenda: www.visitspacecoast.com/event/satellite-beach-christmas-supkayak-boat-parade
@CanoeingTheEdgeOfTheWorld4 жыл бұрын
@@Kayak7seas I went out canoeing on Christmas day (night) last year and made a video called "Canoeing on Christmas in the Grand Canal of Satellite Beach, Florida" because they do it up big here with all the lights on the water and I wanted to get video of how cool it looked. The parade is even better but I didn't participate last year. I hope to be able to make another video this year as a participant in this flotilla and film it in 1080p instead of the crappy 480p I used before. It's really something to behold. The launch site on the SE side of the Pineda Causeway is less than a mile from my condo.

The bypass tunnels are permanently closed off by fencing after many decades of access. The new owners of the dam have determined that they must be your nanny rather than you take responsibility for yourself. Quote from Eagle Creek Renewable Energy (formerly Cube Hydro): "It is in the best interest of the company and the public’s safety that the tunnels are and remain fenced and inaccessible." The dam and lakes are now owned by the Province of Ontario, Canada (owner of Ontario Power Generation, parent company of Eagle Creek Renewable Energy).

How sad, it appears now both the fishing cabin and tunnels highlighted in this video are no longer there for a paddlers enjoyment, what's next someone damn up the waterfall ? Thank you for letting me know, I'm certainly glad i did have a chance to enjoy the cave before it was closed off.
