Japan: Earth's Enchanted Islands (2015)
In Japan's crowded archipelago, there are still places where nature thrives - and Japan has a surprisingly vast range of landscapes, from the far north, where sea eagles walk on frozen seas, to subtropical southern islands, with coral reefs and volcanoes, and the central islands, with forested mountains, home to bears and monkeys. This series explores how life survives across these islands and how humans and wildlife have found ways to live alongside the forces of nature and embrace them in quintessential ways.
Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of entertaining and thought-provoking natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.

The farmers need an alliance with a specific monkey tribe. Give them a small garden of their own that the farmers maintain, and in exchange train the monkeys to defend all the crops from other monkeys. They can even ride the shiba dogs into battle!

The Japanese Macaque (Calidopithecus fuscatus) is a species of papionid old world monkey native to Japan, it is the only living non-human primate species found in Japan and one of very few non-human primate species to tolerate cold climate, it is one of the four extant species belonging to the genus Calidopithecus, the others are the Rhesus Macaque (Calidopithecus mulattus), the Formosan Macaque (Calidopithecus cyclopis), and the Hainan Macaque (Calidopithecus brevicaudus).

At least they don’t poison the food to kill the monkeys like they do in some countries. Lions, cheetahs & leopards in certain African countries die a slow painful death when the farmers put poisoned meat out for them.

The incident of monkeys breaking into a farm in Japan underscores the complex relationship between humans and wildlife. While the monkeys are merely following their natural instincts, their actions can cause significant damage to human livelihoods. It's crucial to find a balance between conservation efforts and sustainable practices that prioritize both human and animal welfare. Such incidents highlight the need for proactive measures that prevent conflict and promote coexistence between humans and wildlife.

Agreed. At first I felt bad for the monkey and then felt bad for the farmers. I wonder if there’s any way to keep the monkeys away, but also provide them with the goodies their after somewhere else. Idk maybe away from the farm, leave some overripe/damaged fruit/veggies out for them. The ones that wouldn’t make it to the market. Just a thought 💭

The community might want to pitch in for a few years to plant a variety of crops away from town that the monkeys can have. That way they will take less from the farmers own crops. The monkeys will probably go for a safer bounty away from cars and dogs

Sigh ..... As a Japanese & animal lover, I can't be proud of this issue, & others, too much. Basically, Japan is a tiny country with disproportionately large number of people. Less conscious, for that reason, of ecosystem comes in the second. Extraordinary economic success has taken some toll somewhere else. Change of mentality & to take a more harmonious, practical stance can't never be late. Where there's will, ....
