I had one once. Couldn't get scanner results to clear. Disconnected the battery instead. Waited 10 minutes. Hooked it back up. Everything was cleared. Strange. Mercedes

Disconnecting the battery and waiting some time, usually an hour for safety will return the ECUs to day 0 state. The downside is that the engine ECU will also lose the parameters it's learned so after that your fuel consumption and vehicle behaviour will be off until the ECUs have learned again.

Signs Your Mercedes-Benz Gearbox Needs a Reset Identifying when your gearbox might need a reset is crucial. Common signs include: Hesitation during gear shifts Rough or jerky shifts Unusual delay in gear engagement The steps below are how to perform an adaptive reset on the gearbox and force it to “relearn” the gearbox shift settings. Preparing for the Reset Safety first: Park your Mercedes-Benz on a level surface, turn off the engine, and ensure you’re in a safe location. No special tools are required for the reset process. Step-by-Step Reset Procedure Ignition Position: Turn the ignition key to position 2 (right before starting the engine). Depress Gas Pedal: Press the gas pedal all the way down to the floor. Wait: Hold the pedal down for five seconds. Turn Off Ignition: With the pedal still pressed, turn the ignition key back to position 0 (off). Release Gas Pedal: Release the gas pedal and wait for approximately two minutes. Start the Engine: Start the engine. This completes the reset process.

were you guys connecting to the 38-pin startec OBD port in the fusebox underhood? the standard OBD port under the dash doesn't give you as much access to the systems, maybe that's why it didn't want to reset. either way, if you source a used replacement TCM with identical part# and as close as possibly date-coded, it should be swappable with no dealer reprogram.

Early W210 models (1996-1997 Only) has a failure prone K40 module. The K40 (fuse and relax) module has hidden relays you have to literally take the thing apart to get to and easy to overlook. If the ASR module does not receive "ignition-on" power from the K40 relay module then car will still run but be in limp mode and none of the gauges will register, check into that and also the ABS module can throw a trans speed code since everything is routed into that first before being distributed to everything else. See if you can connect with the ASR module as well as the ABS module with a scan tool to rule out communication and power issues with these.

I had to do this job about 3 years ago due to a mystery ATF leak, the connector must have broken internally as the connector sleeve was changed (brittle over 20 year old plastic), sure was messy but doable, and leak free ever since the change

You need a scanner with a 38 pin connector to reset transmission codes. I have a good transmission computer from a 1997 E420 that I just parted out if you need one

It’s not a ZF Transmission. The Transmission is Manufactured by Mercedes-Benz, they are also in Dodge Chargers, Challengers, Chrysler 300s, Jeep Wranglers, and Jaguar XJR 98-03

I need to Change the same condutor plate on my Mercedes to i gess?!!🤔 It will not down shift on 5 gear , to down shift i need to press the break 2, 3 or 4 times to down shift... I hope it fixes. And the torque for the pan scrues is 8 nm. Cheers from Portugal ✌️🇵🇹🇲🇿👊😎 Mike you can try to reset the gear box manuali on this 722.6 the sequence is; put the Key posicion befor start the engine, press acelerator to Kick down switch, wait 15 second, and steel with the acelerator down turn the key to posicion 1 and wait 30 sec and you can relesse de pedal and push the key. That's it now it's on factory espetc. Sorry my English 😅✌️

You can get and clear codes with the HVAC controller. Even my '03 clk has the same controller. A real PIA and POS. I had to replace due to the LCD was worn out and couple buttons were broken.

Mike, disconnect the battery and the main fuse box to let all the modules drain out the battery and plug it again after 15-30 min, it should work. That was an issue for some w210’s and also you may have a blown fuse that’s why the radio and the blower don’t work it’s the same fuse.

Put some tape in the socket for the 7 mm bolt , to push the bolt in as you tighten it , otherwise it will just spin.

They are easy to work on! Just avoid a 4matic w210 at all costs. Everything is just a little bit tougher and many front suspension parts are a bit pricier than the 2nd or even obsolete

That is crazy if that's the problem that I'm having with my S600. it has a really hard jump when driving at cool start. Once the car is up to temperature, it rides smooth

Idk why they put TMC mods in stupid places! My 95 and 97 Honda accord had it under the passenger side floor board so all snow/sand/water from shoes soak into the carpet and goes into the area where TCM is causing it to short. And people Toss or sell them thinking the auto trans is going out cuz they have to manually shift 1-2-3-D from every stop. And all it is a simple TCM

Yep, if it's not getting engine and road speed readings then the electronics in the gearbox won't know when the trans needs to shift so no shift out of 2nd, which is the gear that Merc autos use to pull away if they're not in sport mode. I don't want to be a killjoy but I'd start hunting for a numbers matching replacement transmission ECU. Unfortunately they don't often come back after having trans fluid wicked into them up the wiring loom as, often, the fluid causes shorts that damage components and excess heat build up that burns out tracks and component mounting pads. I'm told by people who know that if they say maybe 10% of ECUs survive to be reused then that's being generous. Most of the time it's rebuild or replace...

To connect to any modules other that the ECM, you need the special round pin connector that connects and a compatible scanner. :/

Launch Tech USA makes a scan tool that includes OBD 1 style connectors. It also has the 38 pin adapter to plug into the fuse box connector. This way you can talk to all modules.

The old school Mercedes are easy to work on compared to the new ones. Same goes for the BMWs the were easy to work on too. The 80s- early 2000s German cars weren’t bad.

It does rather strike me that, if the transmission filter wasn't fitted correctly and wasn't tight on the pick up pipe then that's another good reason for the transmission not functioning well as the transmission is going to be struggling to pick up adequate fluid volumes and the trans needs fluid pressure to work properly as well as the electronics. If it was a professional workshop that botched the filter and fluid change and stung the owner for a new transmission pan too then they're just about as dumb as a box of rocks 🤦

E420 isn't OBD2. You need to connect to the round connector under the hood near the brake booster
