Monk solves the million dollar case by realising that the suspect has been looking into Warren Kemp's window for the last month to try and obtain financial information.
Episode Recap from Season 4, Episode 4 "Mr. Monk Goes to the Office": A parking garage attendant is murdered by an unknown assailant who then seizes his real victim, financial analyst Warren Kemp, and slams his right hand in his car door. Why is it so important that Kemp must not use his right hand?

Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.
The Official Channel devoted to the brilliance of DI Adrian Monk; the defective San Franciscan detective, whose OCD is both a blessing and a curse. We'll be posting the very best moments from the show so, like Monk, you'll never miss a beat.

If you stuff the gun against a pillow, wouldn't that technically potentially also stop the spread of gunpowder to your hand?
@SerathDarklands
@SerathDarklands 3 ай бұрын
@@Cramblit Depends on the firearm. The bigger the cartridge, generally the more powerful the gas escaping is. A 9mm, for example, will have significantly less than a .357 magnum. Revolvers are also a little different, due to the way they're loaded, gas, and thus powder, will escape around the cylinder. That's why revolvers are so notoriously difficult to suppress, because that gas and explosive energy is escaping from more than just the barrel. It's hard to get a good look at the pistol in that scene, but it looks like a compact, so maybe 9mm or .22? Either way, not a ton of power in the cartridge, so probably not too much there.

This one really irritated me. Monk’s helper is talking to him right in front of the killer while he watches them in the restaurant. Monk told her the guy is the one and that he can read lips, but she keeps jabbering away about what Monk has discovered. Of course the killer sees it because he is staring at her. They should have left the restaurant and called the police as soon as Monk figured it out. It’s bad, lazy writing and it killed any enjoyment I might have had. Two of the things that soured me on this series were the way Monk’s female helpers (first one and then the next) and the captain’s sidekick detective are written as total idiots and recipients of exposition dumps to push the plot forward. It got really old and despite enjoying Tony Shaloub’s performance, I just couldn’t stomach any more. Seeing this clip reminded me.

If the guy had an implant, why could read lips? He didn't sound deaf, implying that he got the implant very young. This means that he never would've learned to read lips. Also, screaming in his implant shouldn't have startled him. An implant isn't like a hearing aid which makes stuff sound louder, its a device which sends sound to the cochlea at a normal volume. A person can change the volume, but I'm fairly certain that most people would set it at a normal volume.

Not knick picking but can't they run a DNA test on the toothpick?

considering you lack both the basic knowledge of how DNA works to catch a criminal and the basic knowledge of the word nitpicking you should never nitpick.

AH, I just realized the scene error where Kemp interviews Monk and Natalie but his room is set up where its far from him being visible through the window, has the elevated side below the window, and there's no possible way he would have recognized Monk or Natalie through there.

Believe it or not, a pillow actually does work as an ersatz suppressor. It doesn't *silence* a gunshot, ofc, but it's still interesting to know.

How would he read her lips in a mirror? A mirror image of her lips would be gibberish wouldn't it? I don't read lips so I wouldn't know, but surely that's the equivalent of trying to listen to someone in rewind.

as you said you can't read lips (neither can I). but I'm pretty sure lips are symmetrical even when talking, so mirror or not it doesn't matter
@MrYfrank14
@MrYfrank14 Жыл бұрын
I would assume, since the whole mouth is used to form words, a mirror would not make a difference. If a word was formed from the side of the mouth, if only half of the mouth was used and it was a different sound if you use the other side of your mouth, then everything he read would be backwards.

Since the mouth movements are symmetrical with English words, it actually doesn't change much. Amazingly enough, those of us who read lips can often read them sideways and upside down... just like written language. The biggest challenges are mustaches, people with partial paralysis, and those with regional dialects who drop syllables.

@HZ That's so cool!!! I only assume it would be mirrored like written words based off nothing at all haha. Totally my bad, but thank you for the education!
