It's always disappointing when instead of doing the right thing and report a murder to the police, someone decides to blackmail a murderer in this series. This especially goes for Gordo, who's job is to do the right thing as a forensic scientist. Though I will admit he was smart to use his position to ensure he's still alive. Other blackmailers in the show end up dead for their trouble; granted, the ones from the Game Show and the 12th Man survive because the former's killer never thought of offing him (yet) while the latter's killer could only narrow down his blackmailer to 12 people (simple dumb luck).

He didn’t know they were Monk’s hair, because he didn’t test them and wanted to keep framing the wrong guy for Fashion Designer’s crime. That was the point: Monk wanted to prove Forensic Guy was lying about the hairs’ DNA, since Forensic Guy *knew* all the DNA from the crime scene matched Fashion Designer’s DNA-hence, why Forensic Guy was *blackmailing* him for it, in exchange for pinning all the evidence on a different guy, a scapegoat. Forensic guy was going to lie about the hairs’ DNA regardless if he tested them or not, since Monk and the police claimed the hairs belonged the Fashion Designer, and Forensic Guy couldn’t have that, lest he stop getting blackmail money and the truth of the actual murderer was revealed.
