Also, I'm not that proud of this video honestly. It's a bit of a mess same as me at the moment. it's supposed to be about the setting of the Monstergarden though I haven't done any major drawings to show that setting off. all the video has are rough sketches, as I'm not good enough at environments yet to deliver on the world's ideas. I'll make sure to hopefully redo this video like a proper intro into the world that it deserved to be. I am still deciding to post it just because knowing how I work if I hadn't finished it and posted it, it would have been clogging up my mind. Not allowing me to continue work on anything else until it was done.

You owe these 140k people nothing, they are just tagging along the journey. If anything they subscribed for your relaxed and honest work you were doing at 400 subs, so don't feel the need to change a thing, not even the upload schedule. I think that being an artist will always come with negative emotions of doubt and anxiety on anything you design. Such is the cruelty of creativity. The fact that you are brave enough to post something that you weren’t confident in and for it to be this level of quality speaks wonders about of your creativity and character. You inspire others, thank you.

I love the concept of world pillars in fiction and mythologies. I have 4 pillars holding up the sky in my own work-in-progress (4 corners of the world cliche). What I like about yours is the city that has sprung up around it - such a cool idea and really shows the immense SIZE of the Pillar. And your art.. my GOD so good.

Yea I think it's quite a classic trope when it comes to world building. Though in my world I'm trying to focus on how the towers effect people and how people interact with them. As I think what's interesting isn't that the towers are there but what people decide to do about it.

For the whole 'design incompatibility' I think the game Kenshi does that really well. its, at the same time a post-apocalypse and fantasy at the same time. I don't know if that means anything but I really like it and I think your whole thing matches the vibe, or at least you are good enough at designing that you can do pretty much anything you want. Merging Steam-Punk, Sci-Fi and Fantasy have always been the goal of what I want to write, though I am not very good.

@@chillyavian7718 There was Apocalypse World: Dark Age, but it wasn't finished. Although that might have been historic post-apocalypse. Fantasy-post apocalypse has to be something along the lines of evil overlord, forces of chaos and dark magic rule the world, you must live in that world and make due as evil ravages civilization left and right. Is a tough concept to pull off, to be honest.

I don't think I've become so immediately invested in a world after hearing so little of it. Worldbuilding is one of the main driving forces behind my love for art, and it's what pushes me to improve. I could sit and watch you draw and talk about this world for hours, lol.
@NorthOfEarthAlex

When worldbuilding, it's very tempting to start with a map, but this usually a bad idea. Write stories first. Create characters to fill those stories. Then think of what their homes look like and where they might be in the world. When you eventually make a map, avoid large areas on land. Don't draw countries and regions. Instead, draw coastlines and islands. Imagine the shift of tectonic plates. Mash a few islands together. If it's a D&D campaign, don't be afraid to put two locations close together. After all, your players will be walking between them. It might seem too close on a map, but it'll feel better in play. When you've run out of landmass, add more islands. Grow them larger only when absolutely necessary. Fill everything to the brim using as little land as possible.

Hope you get the chance to read this, but I like how you mention mana is found more often around the pillars. The idea that the pillars hold up the sky and heavens (if they exist here) is cool with myth and having unknowns, but what if they had another function? What if they were a sort of plumbing system for mana to travel up and then back down. Instead of the earth creating more mana from its core it could just be a sort of cleaning system. Clean mana goes up, comes back down dirty, then the core cleans it. The mana found by civilizations around the pillars is just what they can siphon from the system as its on its way. Something or someone may be using mana and knows how to recycle it too since it comes back. This is all rough thought and this is all your world so maybe this is bogus, but I thought it was interesting haha, anyways love the content and keep going!

This. This is utterly brilliant. Also, your struggles with initially developing a cohesive world for all of your characters and lore is something I've also grappled with for a long long time. Oftentimes, I'd get so unnecessarily stressed out and frustrated with systematizing my disparate designs, stories, and ideas that I'd put my projects on the backburner and never pick them up again. And, if I ever did systematize them, I felt like I couldn't incorporate other cool ideas. However, after watching this, I want to go back to some of my old projects and look at them with fresh eyes and zero pressure to actually make them into something grandiose. Sometimes worldbuilding is just a big sandbox and we just gotta let loose and play, right? Anyways, long story short, fantastic job and no pressure!

Crazy my guy, truly crazy. Could easily picture this as a got style series with a Nicholas cage type as the protagonist.

I know you've just blown up recently so I'll give a small piece of critical advice, it's a bit tough to see the sketch work on the grey-colored backgrounds. Closer to white backgrounds would help it show after youtube compresses everything. Your storytelling and world building are the reason we're all here though! Seeing the birth of a world is an amazing thing

I once was in a group of people who did the same thing. Our artist friend wanted to draw some monsters and we gave him ideas. We sat around in a skype call for entire days watching him draw monsters, animals, people, places. We all contributed to the drawing with our ideas and so the work felt communal, even though the artist did 50% of it :D Sometimes i look at those drawing just to look at them. We all got separated as the adult life came along and barely talk to each other. So seeing you come back to a project like this, is indescribably pleasant for me.

yea I used to do basically that too in the streams. I miss those days and will probably bring it back in some sense.

I love doing cartography for fantasy worlds, and one key point is to intentionally leave intervening spaces somewhat vague. Your art style so far leaves freedom to change distances and roads between to be filled in by the viewer's imagination. Vague areas with detailed focus points help to keep the story going and reduce time burn on drawing otherwise empty areas

this is just the coolest. I'll never forgive myself for avoiding this channel for so long, but I'm so glad I'm going through it now. This is truly inspirational. Thank you.

If there's another stream planned, I hope you announce it ahead of time, the results look and feel fantastically fantastical! I also find that monsters can be made without having to fit into a single world, rather, the audience can place them themselves without having to stick to the arrangement in just one world. But I also get that having a world makes ideas vibe better together.
