Tbh my least favorite matchup with ground is dragon. Nothing really likes switching into high bp stab dragon moves like draco meteor and outrage. Your only options for resists are excadrill and steelix, which both will crumple in the face of repeated hits and can’t handle common coverage moves on dragon types like flamethrower. This is all without mentioning kyurem which is a nightmare

Ground fairy would be so good. I hope in the future it doesn’t get cucked by like a super low base defensive stat. Wouldn’t even mind if it’s slow, nothing wants to switch in to that dual type coverage unless you have levitate and can resist fairy.

37:40 the Night Daze here did a lot of damage considering you’re max special defense max HP with AV. And Zoroark outspeeds your entire team. Since it got the accuracy drop, the play here was to switch to sack Gastrodon so you could come back in and revenge kill with 100% accurate ice shard. Then from there you force Bischarp to attack and then you can revenge kill with Garchomp.

SO!!! I was at one point a pretty good doubles player, who took a break from Pokemon for about a year or so. I just came back into it, thanks to you KZbinrs, and decided to try singles again for the first time in a VERY long time. For my first go I made a for fun OU team that's pretty sand heavy-- Corsola, Dragapult, Excadrill, Hippowdon, Mandibuzz, and Volcanion. Yes, Corsola is kinda troll, but I was thinking about Regenerator pokemon and happened to come across a vid (I think Emvee?) where his opponent used Corsola on higher ladder right as I was thinking about whether or not I could get away with it. Also, for what little use it has, it's actually a pretty solid fit on the team, I think. I only tested it a bit, and I'm still too low ladder to get an accurate assessment of the weaknesses lol-- but if there is any immediate glaring weakness, it's that I don't have a lot of Grass counters. Mandibuzz (and I *guess* Dragapult?) can soak hits, Volcanion hurts if it can attack, but that's about it. And so therefore, Corsola is kind of my Grass counter. I have a Focus Sash on it, and Endeavor and Mirror Coat lmfao (the other moves are SR and Toxic :S). Gimmick? Oh yes. Will it work against smarter and safer players? Probably not but idk, it's a goddamn Corsola, who's pivoting that hard around a Corsola with a Grass type? lol. I have twice found my way into a lead matchup between Corsola and Rillaboom in early testing and both times, successfully caught it with an Endeavor-- then just Regenerator'd my Corsola back up when pivoting into Special Attacks in sandstorm. Mirror Coat is probably redundant but I REALLY want to mess up an incoming Giga Drain-- and I realized that Rillaboom (and Bulu/Tsareena/Leafeon) were common enough that I should probably run Endeavor to check physical Grass types too. Now, I know Corsola isn't ground type, but in principle, I think this is pretty relevant in that you don't really NEED a *hard* Rillaboom counter, you just need really really good bait lmao. Though, in fairness, I understand how that will only get you so far, too.

(I feel a higher level player would U-Turn with Rillaboom, either to scout or to keep tempo anticipating a switch out, but even still that isn't particularly costly, just means I don't get to essentially take out my biggest threat for free hehe. Unless they have SD, that may be a problem, but haven't seen it yet)

11:58 I don’t know how much credit it’s fair for me to take for this but I’ll do it anyway! I pioneered 6th mon specs flygon on mono ground, as it lets you beat kyurem if you’re not running bulky mamo or a piloswine and it lets you hit Slowbro really hard with bug buzz or giga drain, and it lets you put ferrothorn into a pack with one flamethrower. It also gives you momentum with u-turn, something mono ground heavily lacks. The set is Draco flamethrower ep/giga/buzz and u-turn timid specs. Trust me, it works.

You said 1280 is a decently high elo, in most other formats id still consider it elo hell (for example in randoms i start to come across decent playera only above 1500). Is 1280 high for monotype because of semi-random nature of the meta or is it a matter of difference in our perception?

When you get to mono water, could you do a rain team, but replacing Crawdaunt with Kingler? Just think it would be fun, even if less viable because Adaptability is an effective Life Orb without the recoil already, meaning both Kingler and Crawdaunt can effectively run two Life Orbs while Crawdaunt also has CC and Knock. Crawdaunt's superior coverage is amazing, but I feel Kingler would be a more fun pick because of it not being expected. Along with that, I think it has 20 higher base speed and 10 higher base attack, so it may be able to outrun some mons or hit a few ranges that Crawdaunt can't

Never played or watched monotype before but I couldn't help clicking on that thumbnail lol. Question: even on bulky-offense mono-ground, why not run a sand stream mon? Isn't the free chip damage on the enemy team every turn valuable for this slower style of play? Or is the idea that you're not going to be able to wall anything long enough for that to matter?

You're partially right, but it also gives you a valuable extra team slot. Hippo isn't doing too much that's unique, whereas ever other mon on this team is vital
