Magda is a wonderful deck and it was with him that I managed to reach the TOP4 of the Commander 500 promoted by cEDH Brasil last year. A wonderful deck that works from a budget of R$50.00 to as much as you have to spend. Thanks Nogueira!

Both the Magda deck and the Heliod deck look incredibly cool. When I heard that Ilavaldi had made the top 4 with Heliod, I had just assumed it was Heliod, Sun Crowned... Turns out I underestimated his prowess with mono White!

Awesome to see Magda do so well. I have been testing various Magda builds for a few months and settled in on using Reckless Fireweaver as the wincon to ping down the table. I also have the Elixir + Pyrite spellbomb loop as a back up.

I was seriously so shocked to see so many mono colored decks taking down the tournament! Really crazy stuff! I actually got to meet the Magda player at this tournament. Really nice guy, and he really opened my eyes to some super interesting new ideas I hadn't thought of before. One thing he told me, that I really wasn't so sure of is that your real name is Ian, and that your name is actually a part of your KZbin account name! That's such a crazy coincidence! Did you know about this?

You play very fast and your stax is comprehensive enough that your opponents should not linger on any decision too long because they typically don’t have many. On top of that judges will issue you slow play warnings if you’re found taking too long of a time performing/deciding on a game action. In EDH games, the Stax player is typically not the one who is slow. It’s the combo player who’s not prepared to execute their combo in a compREL setting/make decisions in the face of Stax/potential interaction (i.e., a combo player taking 5 minutes to decide whether she should cast a mystical tutor because she’s afraid someone has an Opp Agent and deliberates back and forth on whether they have it or not is considered slow playing). I did only lose one game with this deck, and drew in my last on day 1 according to @ComedianMTG. The one game I lost in swiss was due to me not making the correct decision on which Stax piece to play, so I felt I also could have won that game if I played correctly. In each of my games, aside from the last, I never felt I had to call the judge for slow play.

The Queen (under the mountain) takes her throne! Why everyone gets Ouphe/Linvala in their opening hand vs my Magda deck I will never know. Glad the Maskwood Nexus line after clock is actually this viable. My finish is kiki+WG w/terror of the peaks. I call it Smaug combo exiling all the dwarves in a never ending battle to reclaim the mountain. Edit: Also didn’t think you mentioned how the liquimetals turn your artifact removal into permanent removal. Which is awesome with with vandalblast.

magda went 5-1 at the god of commander event in japan recently as well. the best part about magda is once you have the win, you can just sit there until you are forced to go for it. to bait out interaction. its very strong. I dont think the dragon prospector combo is needed because you can also just cast bolt infinitely but its solid enough Stickfingers also has raz lines that are really strong

@Ilvaldi

Ian posted your question on Twitter and I responded there, but I'll answer here, too. The answer to this question can be found on my 8.5 tails deck on Moxfield (so yeah, no wonder no one knows because the answer is in a completely different deck). In the comments section for that deck, I wrote: "If you ghost quarter someone and they say they have no basics, that's free information about their deck. It helps you make decisions about whether they could potentially be on a hermit druid line or not. If you ghost quarter them and they say they "only have 3 basics in the deck," you now have information on what the ceiling for a card like Winds of Abandon could be like (you might not run it, but other opponents do). If you ghost quarter someone after they mystical/enlightened/worldly tutor for a card, and they decide the land is worth more than the card they tutored for--again, that's free information. Basically, strip mine is played as an answer to a problematic land like Gaea's Cradle, but Ghost Quarter can be an answer to something like Cradle and also give you free information about your opponent."

I'm not a pro cedh player, and actually I've never played cedh, but in the Magda deck for the most part it looks amazing, but the combo line seems too long honestly, like you could take the dragons out as well as zorn, and play an creature that deals 1 damage to each opponent whenever an artifact enters the battlefield, giving you more room for other stacks pieces or another way to combo off. But obviously this guy knows what he's doing so safe bet is that he's done what he's done for a reason Xorn* (Reckless Fireweaver) I also say this because reckless fireweaver doesn't target, just deals damage, as well as it just doesn't get disrupted by graveyard hate, with the dragon/elixir loop. Oh just realised, with my way if winning you wouldn't be able to do it at instant speed then would you, sorta defeating the whole purpose

@@poofypeanut0221 Thanks! Yeah, Planar Birth was also in my Elesh Norn list for a while. If people thought Winds of Abandon, Back to Basics, and Blood Moon were good enough due to the meta, it made sense imo that you could get away with Planar Birth. The only reason why it's no longer in the list is because I found myself/my playstyle nowadays no longer needing a Planar Birth and being able to win the attrition game even without needing to break parity on MLD.
