Very professionally presented. Explaining quite clearly the differences and at no time overly critical of one over the other. All he did was present the facts. Thank you, Les.

Note for those like me who missed it on the first watch. He's comparing DMD stone not DMT (Dia-Sharp) stone. the DMT (Dia-Sharp) stones use monochrystalline stones like Trend does. And DMT claims there diamond size is more consistent than any other company. At 59$ per stone, the price of two 400/1000 respectively, the cost is under 118$ while the price of this dual side 300/1000 is 122$ at the time of this post. I bought the Trend stone, it works well, but is not technically the cheapest high quality MCD sharpening stone on the market.

very well done! thank you for that review. I thought everyone was using monocrystalline diamonds bonded with nickel now, but i guess not. What sort of setup did you use for the microscope and camera to get that 3D image at 100x with some contrast?

Even some stones that are not that cheap use polycrystalline diamonds sometimes. The Axminster stone that costs around 55€ for example

I use a diamond chinese stone like the "middle price" one. With trend lapping solution. How do you clean the particles off the stone (not using water) off the steel base metal?

Спасиба Болшои. I'd been wondering this. And the diff between Diamond Plates vs cBN. (without buying them, that is).

Do you have the trend plate 1000 side on the micrscope? I am always weary of coarse grit contamination on dual sided plates

The facts that you gave regarding mono-crystalline being stronger than poly-crystalline is completely false and the graphics that you showed were taken off the site that gives the same false info. If you're going to do a comparison that at least get your facts correct and stop perpetuating incorrect data.

What he meant is that polycrystalline diamonds wear off quicker, as grain boundary binding energy is significantly lower than the pure sp3 bond, and as such those particles will fracture at grain boundary over time with harder materials sharpening.

What is "DMD", some kind of silly Chinese DMT immitation? What is the purpose of the very annoying background "music"? Trend is also now made in China.

Yep. 10$. I got one of the gold colored ones for my first dia plate, as a test. I think it was bonded with brass or something soft. worked well at first, but is nearly smooth after a few months of weekly use (wood carving and whittling often). I found generics last longer if you use them in reverse like a strop. Now that I have spent 30 on generics, it's time for a dmt, trend or eze lap. Learned how they cut, how to best use etc, and now on to better quality ones

8 months later and now i don't hear the loud annoying background music i was complaining about before. Was it removed...or is it me?
