Howdy! Welcome back to the channel. Today’s kit is a pretty neat model of the great Ford Tr-Motor. This is the second issue of the kit with wheeled gear. As a bonus, I show the box of the 1956 first issue as well. Have you built this kit? Let us know in the comments. Thanks for watching!

Amazing amount of engraving done to simulate the corrugated skin with 1965 technology. Cool review.

What’s even more amazing is this is actually a 1956 first release!

That was one of the few non-military aircraft I built back as a kid in the 1960s. You have a great channel. I appreciate your research and it is great to see the kits I built in my youth on a folding TV tray with tube glue .

Thanks!! I was surprised to find in my research that there were no more modern kits of this great plane. I think this Monogram kit still holds up well. The cabin windows seem to be the only thing from making it look like a current kit.

I have built this kit quite a few years ago I liked it I believe the one I had was a later reissue than the 1965 kit. Most of all my early models I built as a kid were Monogram 1/48 scale aircraft. I started building models around 1966.

The Island Airlines markings were of N7584, the last Tin Goose to fly on Island Airlines regular schedule (the windshield in the kit is accurate to N7584, but not to the TWA bird). 7584 was owned for a time by Al Chaney of southern Ohio who barnstormed it around the country including spending the summer of 1987 selling sightseeing rides out of Sandusky, Ohio, just across Sandusky Bay from the plane's former base of operations between Port Clinton and the Lake Erie islands. That's where I got to ride it. The plane was sold to Kermit Weeks and his aviation museum in Florida but was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew. Weeks enlisted the aid of Maurice Hovious in Kalamazoo, MI, who restored the plane to flying condition by the early 2010s. Weeks, however, elected to have the plane repainted in the colors of a Florida regional airline of the 1920s, so although Island Airlines still operates, there are no Geese flying in the IA livery. I believe the Monogram Goose is available with Island Airlines decals (along with the skis and the dogsled) through the gift shop of the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton, Ohio, just across the tarmac from which N7584 used to depart for the islands. At least, that's where I got my copy about 10 years ago.

I just built this kit last year. Produced by ATLANTIS now. i think it came with ski option but had the dog sled and figures for sure. I used the wheel version and painted it to match the the EAA black nosed one "TAT" that me and my son actually got to fly on coincidentally at around that same time. Was so cool!

Fantastic! I got to fly in the EAA Tri-motor as well. Send in pics of your built model to be added to our viewer build video we are making. Email is in the channel description. Thanks for watching

@@CelebratingVintageModelKits I got to dust it off a little. I'll send them off my phone if i can, my tech skills are sorely lacking.

This was an aircraft which looked right and was right. Solid and sturdy. Made the Airfix one in the 60's which was unusual as I rarely deviated from the military aircraft but this looked so good. Your video reminded me that I also build a model of the Spirit of St Louis with a standing figure of Lindberg and also a Moth with an Amy Johnson figure too. I think they were Frog but could be wrong. Love your videos as they bring back so many memories of model building adventures.

How was the Airfix kit of the Tri-motor?

@@CelebratingVintageModelKitsLoved it and not too difficult a build considering especially I was a nipper at the time. Things fitted fairly well for the time too. Silver plastic and nice corrugated finish. Really liked the aircraft though as it looked so strong and capable and a tri-motor to boot. The Ju 52 also had that solid look to it and like the Tri Motor it has soldiered on for so long.

Have a partly done reissue of kit with dog sled; I'd rather they had spent their mold making money on a cockpit and flight crew.
