I watched a video by a fellow model maker on youtube (I wish I had kept the link) and he had one piece of advice that I follow: build your models to please YOURSELF...if they happen to please others, great...do not compare your models against others, as other modellers with much more experience than you will almost always make kits that look "better" than yours. Build to please yourself, and you WILL get better without getting frustrated that they are not "as good" as somebody else's. I have been following this advice for a few years now, I highly recommend it, it will keep you motivated!

That is great advice and I to follow those guidelines but never really thought about it!

Hey Mark, that sounds like something Chris say of the "hpiguys Workshop" on KZbin, I watch all his build, he is really good in the style of his building using mostly Rustoleum sprays and paint markers, keeping it simple.

I interviewed Shel for the Discovery series WILD ABOUT WHEELS in 1989, six weeks after his heart transplant, we remained friends till he passed. My material is included in CARROLL SHELBY: AN INTERVIEW.... Anytime he's at his desk looking past the camera, he's talking to me.

Glad to be the first to say fantastic work on these Raoul. The history lesson is very appreciated and fun to listen to. Here alittle personal history for you. I was pumping gas as a teenager when one evening one of these cars pulled up at the pumps. It was the 289 version and I freaked out over the car and the two guys congratulated me for knowing what this car was. They showed me under the hood and I remember it was a dark green paint on the body with those wire wheels. A memory I will always treasure.

It's always neat to go back and look at your old builds and see how you have progressed. Sadly every car I ever built from childhood on along with my friends builds went up in a house fire as well as most of our stashes. We were able to save a few boxed kits before it got too bad but we lost a lot of vintage kits. Started over pretty much from scratch and have amassed a smaller stash and starting to build up cars again. Keep on modelling!!

Thank you! That is sad. I destroyed many of my original builds. But some like this did survive.

I think that's cool that you still have them. I still have a few I built in the late seventies and eighties and some from after I got married. It's interesting to look back at them and remember the times I spent in the basement building.

I have an old original AMT Cobra 289. The kit is pretty good for the period with the exception of the windshield frame which makes it look like a toy. I looked for an aftermarket frame and windshield but found nothing. Not as bad as my Protar Alfa spider windshield though. I have an old Renault 442B by Tamiya to restore I built back in the day and found decals through Indycals which should be an improvement. Though I’m a sports car guy I learn from and appreciate your content.

All the Revell ones are originally Monogram 1/24. Some of the boxes say 1/25 but are in fact 1/24.
