Nice, i had possession of an 80 cobra foe a short time which shared features with the 79 pace car. One of the best looking foxbodies in my opinion.

People scoff at the "decal package" performance cars of the Malaise Era. But those cars were attractive! This Mustang is proof of that. You did a beautiful job with it. Also got a kick out of seeing Michelin TRXs in their "Natural Habit" as opposed to those dozens of applications where they were an "invasive species".😂

Yes. This one was a good looking car! For me the worst kits that had these tires were the Shelby Cobras from Monogram. The first kits had these TRXs for fronts and Goodyear Radial GT for rears! I built some with the lettering on the inside. Sometime in the late 90s those kits got new Goodyear Bluestreak tires and I grab those tires every chance I get!

@@TheMuscleCarModeler Yes! I think I could build every car in my collection with the upgraded wheel & tire package in those most recent Revell Dueces. Big & Littles with Goodyear Bluestreaks outback and Dunlop Sportscar Specials out front? And those Torque Thrusts all around. I am too much of a Factory Stock Purist to do that, but a build or two with Day Two modifications will sneak through.

I like the Monogram Mustangs to. Your correct. It hasn't been reissued. Great kit. Gotta go check stash on the rear fin. Always wish they made the 85 / 86 model. Thanks for sharing

I had a friend that had a 86 GT 5.0 5 speed! His daughter used it as her first car in high school and graduated in 2019! She loved the car but felt is was too much for her so they sold it and her second car became a 92 Honda Del Sol SI.

I got this is a grab bag for a Christmas present and from Fry's School in Burbank all my other friends got different types of things king cobra to like you know like Charlie's Angel type wants all different types and older mustangs like Mark ones but I got the 1979 Ford Mustang for the Indianapolis 500. In this little kid is worth $50 or more now. And I wish to build it the right way instead of the wrong way. I wish I can find this one again it's really classic.

I built this kit when it was new, I don't remember the rear spoiler having those cutouts. I don't think that's factory correct and I would have noticed if mine were done that way. I remember really liking the decals on this one, really well done. I also did a '79 Turbo Cobra, '81 Cobra, and '84 SVO, but they were MPC kits.

This looks like a model that is fairly easy to assemble and comes out nicely. I remember it as a "Cafe Racer" kit as well, and did anyone, including the aftermarket people, ever do an early stock notchback Fox body (1979-82)?

Monogram did release a 1/32 1979 notchback kit. I had an 83 GL 5.0 notchbac, so I bought several of those. But I've never seen one in 1/25 other than the 1990 one.

Thanks. They are nice cars. I think the fox body Mustangs are cool cars. My first one was about $40 shipped but don’t remember. When I saw this one at $12 and checked the box contents and saw the chrome was good, glass was good, decals looked good and nothing looked started. I bought it. As I mentioned, I fully inventoried the kit and a few small parts were missing but nothing major.

I have the yellow cafe racer kit from 1981 and the spoiler is molded closed. Inside the roof of the body there are part numbers for silver(2250-0610),red(2260-0610), and yellow(2276-0610). While I don't have the pace car kit, I'd have to guess the open mold was an early release.
