I’ve spent my entire career in aerospace but I love construction. I carried hod for a mason when I was younger and have some teenage years spent on a build site and I have seen some contractors work first hand so I have a hard time trusting others to do what’s right and tend to try doing everything myself when possible. Even though I waste money during trial and error until I get things right. I’m currently teaching myself how to use house design software but don’t feel confident in being my own contractor. Sometimes I think about quitting to get into construction just to learn more about it. It would be really awesome to see some videos or a list of builders you trust in different states. Huge fan of your channel man! Keep it up and thank you from Seattle!

Would love to see some videos for building lower budget homes. Good systems and products to use to make an efficient and long lasting home. As well as materials to finish the inside within a reasonable budget. An example, I live in northwestern PA, an average home is about $130,000 for 1200 square feet. Ideally id build a 2200 square home with finished basement with a budget of $250,000 - $300,000 upon my retirement, but would like to explore lower budget options as well using smart building methods mentioned on this channel.

Impressive. Makes we wonder though. Everything is basically sealed inside the house. Like a new car, a lot of the materials, especially the glues will out gas compounds for months or years. I also understand that the way I've just stated this would freak out a lot of people and suggest a near intractable problem. From a practical point of view I think of the house fire we experienced some years ago. It burned for about 11 minutes, yet there was smoke inside of shoe boxes in a closet, its door closed, on the opposite side of the house. The firefighters said, get the biggest fan you can fine put it in the door and run it for as many weeks as you can. There was no residual smoke smell issue. So a hyper-ventilated new structure will probably also take care of any smells and out gassing. (Also air pressure, an equalized air pressure keeps most of, say spray foam insulation, odors inside the wall, but during a temperate part of the year turning on an exhaust fan in the morning when everyone leaves the house for the day, will drop the air pressure pulling residual aerosol compounds out of every void and out of the house.

There are a couple different schools of thought on this, and I think it really depends on the humidity in your climate. This is a good solution for humid climates to keep the vapor out of your assembly before it hits your insulation. If you're in a drier climate, it's considered beneficial to have your membrane to the inside of your wall assembly. These are still permeable barriers, this at 16 perms is really respectable, so you can still experience some vapor drive in your assembly, but you can still realize some optimization with where you put your membrane.

Looks like you should scrub everything thing down just to spray and tube correctly cause it won't bond with dust there= extra work

I don't want to know how much more it costs, I want to know how much time this adds to a build

I just did a rough price est for the house I'm building. ~$7,000 for this stuff via 5-gal buckets. Ouch! I don't see how anyone can afford this. My house isn't cheap, but I still can't swing that.

Well imagine being 99% air and water tight for the life of the structure . Air tight might pay for itself
@Bottleworksnet5 жыл бұрын
@@shahsmerdis $7,000 vs around $700, hmm no. Or add in the vaporized "caulk" that will fill in every leak for an additional $3,000 or less. So, I can be completely air sealed and protected from water for $3,700 or less. 4,300 sq ft house.

How's the price ? Can this take place of a vapor barrier ?
@augustreil5 жыл бұрын
Almost 700 bucks for 5 gallons that covers around 350 square ft and yes, it's a vapor barrier.

I think he meant to say 6 mm thick, 60 mm that's more than 2 inches.
@andyowens54945 жыл бұрын
Eugene Ion Or even 60 thou. Even 6mm is a thick coating. At that rate, a 55us gal drum would cover about 30 sqm (roughly sq yds), which given the rate that guy was going wouldn’t be “all day long” (assume no loss of volume through evaporation, and no foaming expansion). Agree, 60mm seems a hell of a lot, and not whats on that wall.
@kevinh55715 жыл бұрын
Not 60mm. 60 mil thickness. Mil thickness is a common measurement in manufacturing. A "mil" is a unit of thickness equal to one thousandth of an inch (.001 inch). To convert mil to inches, take mil and divide by 1000.

@@kevinh5571 Blimey, thanks for the pointer. I have learned something new today; who'd have thought the US would use a Latin derivation over engineering consistency. 😀
