It depends on what steel you are using. My 308 Win penetrates 1/2" into steel up to 300 meters because my steel is a common plate. For this reason I need to use 1" thick steel targets. (Can't get special steels in my location)

Lack of damage has more to do with distance than being a monolithic bullet, I manufacture steel targets with lots of testing. And at closer distances even frangible rounds will damage hardened steel. I have even bent hardened plate with soft point rounds from a 308, I put 292 bullets on a 3/8ths plate at 50 yards in less than 30 minutes. Yes I still have the plate, testing is done close since the targets I build are close range defensive training targets....

Hey i got a question for ya..or a senirio for ya. Say you use 23 grain for a 223 round with a 55 grain projectile and a round with a 77 grain projectile. Will the 77 grain build up more.pressure in the case bc its coming out of the barrel slower than the 55 grain
@taylorharris56014 жыл бұрын
Short answer is yes. Long answer is ehhh not by any significant margin because you are using the same 23 grains for powder, basically the pressures will more than likely be very close to the same. Usually Heavier bullets travel slower because they take less powder, and believe it or not they have less pressures than lighter bullets because generally people load lighter bullets with more powder due to case space and to get them fps. So overall, how long a bullet stays in the barrel is a mute point when it comes to pressure. It is about the size of the explosion, or powder charge that increases pressures.
@stephenknecht71894 жыл бұрын
@@taylorharris5601 thats what I was thinking. I loaded some .223 cases with 23 grains of reloder 10x with 77gr amo bthp and about blew the back of the case out
