That's definitely a nice simple annealer. I haven't looked into the price but I'm sure quality comes with a cost. I had built my own annealer using a rotisserie motor and a small cake pan.. had everything I needed to build it in the garage minus the cake pan.. total cost $5 for the pan.

Have you thought of comparing case life with non annealed cases? I had a 338 Lapua that I was up to 15 reloads on each case I had (only had a limited number of Lapua cases....) and they were still driving tacks and showing no signs of cracking or damage to the cases and had never been annealed. I have similar results on my 308 using Norma brass. Wish I could send you pics of the groups that are coming out of my 308 with that non annealed brass....

I only anneal to make my brass last longer. I have a 6.5 Grendel and brass for its expensive (approx $2 a piece) and there is no factory loaded ammo to use. I had a split neck in a case, so since then i have annealed them ever 2-3 firings. you can feel quite easily if a case needs annealing when trimming them. Hard brass tend to flake and feel much more brittle and fresh/good brass makes long strands and is more soft.

Looks like a great product, but has anyone considered all of that heat rises into the case body. Has anyone had issue with this?
@Arzan81
@Arzan81 Жыл бұрын
The pin pointed heat softens only the neck(wich is the whole point of the proces) The lower heat moving towards case base does nothing to it as long as the heating time is correct. Too much time can soften the case body and make the base to crack, but it takes like 30 seconds or more. It has been testes.

Technology is great, but expensive. So for $1,400+ you can anneal your brass to perfection. It would be interesting to do a shooting study to see if annealing with AMP gives noticeable better consistency than manual annealing. Then you could feel good about $1,400+ for one component of an already-expensive tool set for reloading.
@79brumley
@79brumley 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't, Most of the benchrest guys are flame annealing and still breaking records right and left. Speedy shot a .40 inch group at 400 yards using a gas annealer. Russell Raines in 2012 shot a .096" 5 shot group at 200 meters and the old all time record in the 70s was .009" group at 100, thats 5 shots into the same hole essentially and all of those guys are using propane torches.

I dunno man, There's a lot of f class and benchrest world champs who still use a open flame to anneal their brass! Erik Cortina uses a gas annealer and just shot a 1.3 inch 5 shot group at 1000 yards!
@jmkhenka
@jmkhenka 3 жыл бұрын
I hand anneal and tbh it hasnt done much for accuracy, there are so many other things that needs to be perfect. Its all about neck tension, there is no other magic happening. Gas annealing has been used since we started using brass casings.

@NiteQwill_
@NiteQwill_ 3 жыл бұрын
And Erik Cortina states the only reason he still uses a flame is because it is what was available at the time. He finished by saying if he was to purchase a new annealer today, it would be an induction one like the AMP. Let's not confuse traditional loading techniques with the only method to do something. Innovation consistently improves the way we reach precision.
