One of my favourite things about this channel is the overt lack of gatekeeping. Any game is valid. Any game has the potential of bringing someone into the hobby. It's okay to not like a game, but it's not okay to dismiss a game because it's "just Monopoly", or "just Munchkin". Great job.

From a designer’s perspective, I bet this variant was a lot of fun to make. But the game still doesn’t give you much to do in it. If I get this, I would try to make house rules to make the game more strategic in some way. Because I think they have a solid foundation here.
@Shelfside4 жыл бұрын
Some more interaction with the locations would make it a lot more fun, as well as more thoughtful loot cards. I think they just wanted to make it simple so that the younger crowd could play it super easily!
@gyroh65934 жыл бұрын
Definitely simplistic for the kids. I really dig that Storm mechanic lol and I am not whether sure to get this or the Monopoly Gamer, which is the super Mario one. Fortnite has the storm, which is more interesting than the boss battles from Monopoly Gamer. But the Mario characters have their own special abilities, but this has an item deck! Fortnite is player elimination, and Mario is victory points (which I like more as a victory condition). Or maybe just buy all 3, and find a way to merge my favorite mechanics from them. And then find a way to mitigate the luck and add the strategy. All 3 of these have an action dice that is pretty similar. My head’s going crazy lol. Thanks for the vid!!

A house rule I came up with but never got to try yet after the lockdown was to make everyone roll 2 dice for movement instead of just one, but you pick which result to move with. If there's a double, you pick any number 1-6 instead. -Daniel

That is actually a given. I bet that the designers would have wanted to add certain mechanisms into the game but were discouraged by the publisher due to certain reasons (e.g. copyright, streamlining, etc). What is best for them then, is to release a very simplified version of the game. Hence it would be up to the player to come up with their own ideas for better enjoying the game and implementing it with some Photoshop skills.
@atomiccritter64924 жыл бұрын
@@DarthNVious I dont think mechanisms can be copyrighted though I maybe mistaken. i think there is enough stratefy to be interesting with positioning of the walls and attacks. The recovery of health on the die is a core problem imo as its so easy to lose 1 hp then regain it next roll which in an elimination game just makes it drag on...perhaps they could have had one lose 2hp side and 1 gain just 1 hp...the action die needs tweaking i think

Wow! I overlooked this one thinking it would simply be just another Mario Monopoly re-skin (I already have the Kart version). However, the Storm mechanic is actually a good board game translation of Fortnite/PUBG. Thanks for this video. By the way, Team Hasbro has done a very good job with modernizing Monopoly that they deserve a kudos. I also liked what they did with Halo Legendary Edition Risk. I play Twilight Imperium, Star Wars Rebellion, Dead of Winter but can still say that these modern Monopoly and Risk iterations have a special place in my collection.

A fast, casual, player elimination game in the mass market? That sounds interesting.
@atomiccritter64924 жыл бұрын
played it yesterday Christmas Day for the first time...I did NOT find it fast at all...we ended up playing til 1 player was out as it dragged on. I found you just kept losing a bit of health then regaining it easily. I liked the line of sight rule but played that wrong with the attacker dealing 1 pt damage to EVERYONE in los. I was surprised how different it was to Monopoly and kind of liked it. I would house rule it that you have much less HP though perhaps 8 max

I think I like the mechanic of this game better than monopoly gamer. I want the idea of last man standing than highest points win. The storm mechanic is also awesome. The simplicity and the fast pace will not bored anyone. It is easier to find players if the game is fast. The game is dragging when it is long and if you know that you are losing
@Shelfside3 жыл бұрын

So i haven't played fortnite, but knowing the general idea... Seems that its trying to represent 2 core concepts of the game. 1. Battle Royale - last player left is winner 2. The Storm - its a circle that decreases the map such that it forces players to interact with each other 1st one is addressed simple enough. 2nd isnt entirely, as it seems that the monopoly board makes it impossible to implement. When i think about it, this concepts got legs. A 'dudes on a board' battle royale. Have cards be randomized locations and the cards get replaced by the death storm encroaching onto a randomized spot. Boom, fortnite / battle royale board game.

Sure, I'm not expecting it to be amazing, but this is one of those games that's just so thematically well done that if you're a fan... it kinda is amazing.

I've actually had the opportunity to play this with friends... once. After which they refused to play again. Anyway, I did not like it either - I cannot recommend that you get this. *Especially if you play Fortnite* Not only are the mechanics nothing like the game. *But the game is instantly out of date.* We had a brand new copy and half of the location were already no longer in the game. With the pace new content comes out, it's basically unrecognisable after less than a year. Besides that, there's just little to it. Lose hp, gain hp, make no decisions. Also our game took way longer (maybe because you get hp on the action dice?), and when a 1 hp player got the full restore chug jug it was groans all around. But yes, it's not much like regular Monopoly, and it wasn't bad in the same way, just bland and uninteresting.
@Shelfside4 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear your experience! There certainly is a lot of dumb luck and a lot of the decisions are really barebones, but we had a lot of fun just lightheartedly chucking dice! There can be certainly some variance in time length due to what storm cards you pick, what loot cards you draw, and what rolls tend to come up. The Chug Jug restore is super swingy for sure, basically whoever gets that late game will win. Now I'm curious whether or not they'll reprint this for the new updates for Fortnite to try to get some money!

I actually think it's really cool how the map is, like, Season ~6? It seems really nostalgic! Season 6 was years ago now, and I miss it.
@Shelfside4 жыл бұрын
Yea I think hasbro realized this too because iirc correctly the version that we have is actually the second time they've printed the game trying to update it with new skins and locations. I don't think they've ever updated with a new version after the one we got. I also remember my friends complaining that the game's mechanics weren't faithful to fortnite as well, in our playthrough one of them said it's like a frankenstein game that's neither Fortnite or Monopoly -Daniel
