Sheldon Cooper Yeah you can use strategy too increase your chances, but the monopoly is primarily a game of chance. Poker has tournaments with huge money at stake cause it's mostly skill based. You manage risk through bets. If in monopoly you land on a hoteled Mayfair you basically lose instantly through no error of your own.

actually champ dude in poker there are man "cooler" situations in poker where you cant fold i.e set over set. Similar to monopoly. Poker is a luck based game in same way as monopoly. Ive played many tournaments online and live. Monopoly requires more luck but there are skill and negotiation elements to it.

to say cooler situations are very very rare is incorrect. There are many situations in poker which are defined by luck. The best dont always win. In the long term they win but not in the short term. Anyone can beat the best poker player in the short term, hence why phil ivey has not won the main event. Same as Monopoly if you played a person long enough over a period of time over many games you will win more often. Monopoly is more luck than poker I know but it requires a bit of skill that maybe you don't get yet. I play both alot i know you can make money from poker , i made a very small amount over two years playing micro/low level PLO online. I also play alot of monopoly with friends and family for small amounts of cash following strict rules which are the real rules. You can make a lot of money at computer games. It doesn't mean anything. If profesional monopoly became more popular then it would become a way to make a living.

There is much more skill in this game than people realize. When I play against casual players, I win around 90% of the time. So, during a friendly game, one thing I do now is to make sure everyone gets a monopoly. It is not fun to be the only person without a monopoly.

More than *some* people realize, but less than some people think. There are skills indeed, but it is still quite obvious what to do. World Champion Nicolò Falcone refused to do a Master class only on Monopoly saying exactly this: there is not enough skill involved to do a whole class, all the main concepts can be explained in a 15mins video. He makes simul at game fairs where he wins 100% with all the complete noobs, but he admitted that against a minimally decent table of players he does lose - even playing mathematically perfectly and knowing the probability of ending up on different streets, if you are a bit unlucky you lose if the others have a good grasp of the game.

There’s luck but also a lot of skill. I would more compare it to professional hold-’em. There’s a lot of statistics in monopoly you can memorize and chances you can almost reliably predict. Losing a game of monopoly could easily come down to just rolling the dice before you make a trade instead of after. Each color set, property, and utility set all have different chances to be landed on, costs to develop, and rent costs. The idea is to get the cheapest to develop relative to yours current value, with the higher land chance, and the bigger rents. Because of all that, i. just about every game of monopoly the Orange color group is going to be the most valuable because they successfully have all 3 of those. Their rent, while not the biggest is still enough to knock anyone out of the game, they have the highest land chance, snd their houses are only 100$ ea. meaning just about anyone could afford to put enough houses up to get to the 3 house rent jump (all properties have a massive rent spike at 3 houses, sometimes doubling the rent or more than double). However, all that said you shouldn’t play every game expecting to get the Oranges. With the right deal making skills you can win a game on just about any color group except browns typically. Sometimes you just lose to crappy luck, but that said there are a lot of skills and trading tactics you can use to give yourself a leg up into the game above everyone else

I'd say it's more 25-30% Skill. Auctions, Trading, Mortgaging when needed, House/Hotel placement, buying up House stock to block players, staying in Jail on purpose to avoid Rent and Skillful Dice Rolling are all Skill based. There's a reason some gambling games are Competitive because they still require some Skill. Still not convinced? Getting High Rolls which is definitely Skill based will get you $200 more frequently. Low Rolls are great for early game for owning properties on first Round. I'd also like to add a little extra by saying you can better your luck by concentrating on the desired number before rolling. Believe what you want but it does work, not consistantly but it increases the chance for sure.
