I'm running two Monolith 12" THX subs and they are great. I got both on one of their regular "sale days" for $1400 total I think. I prefer reading the reviews on your website. I was surprise to see a Monoprice sub on your website because I thought Monoprice was a cheap brand. Hell Nahh! I have been wanting to buy a good sub for a very long time. Especially now since I have managed to get my system setup on separates and with a great pre/pro. The sub was the last thing for me. In my research of all of the subs I found, REL, SVS, etc..., I was about to buy the SVS PB16-Ultra, that goes down to 11Hz but it cost three grand. The Monolith was the one with greatest potential and for the price, it was a no-brainer. So I finally broke down and bought one of these beast and I should have it by next Monday. I'll be replacing a Klipsch RW120 and it only goes down to 29Hz. I can't wait to get this monster. I bet that after having the Klipsch for so many years this is going to blow me away. I've been doing home theater for the last 20 years and I am a home theater fanatic. In my opinion Gene gives the best detailed, no-bullshit reviews on everything home theater. I can't get over how many of these clowns get on YT and claim to be experts and they don't have a clue. I grew tired of all of the back and forth drama in the forums when “researching” my next sub. So much brand loyalty and snobbery. And for what reasons exactly? People loved to bash monoprice but they actually produced a product that has amazing value. This came up on my radar and to me it is a no brainer. Sure it may have the occasional port chuff (most ported subs do as they are air pumps) but it has actual measurements AND passed the THX standards which has shut a lot of people up. Looking forward to it’s arrival.

I am leery Monoprice's customer service and warranty compared to SVS. If one of these subs craps out within 5 years it is going to be like $400 to ship it back.
@PumpUptheJam813 жыл бұрын
@@HereticHulk according to their rep they are now shipping drivers or amps to people who have had failures. Apparently it has been less that 3% failure rate. This is from the rep on the forum. I have been hammering on mine for a while now and it’s incredible. Scarry actually. I actually had more issues with a US built sub recently and that return was a hassle due to the size of the unit not the transaction. I have no doubts svs customer service is some of the best. We are rather spoiled these days anyway. Not long ago warranties rarely went past 90 days then you were lucky to even get parts from the manufacturer.

Wow, at $1600 I believe this is more than the older 15" THX Monolith sub. It's very close in price to the Paradigm Defiance X15, so what do you think between that and the new Monolith 13 THX?
@neosmith36333 жыл бұрын
The Monolith is way better than any Paradigm sub.
@xpidex33993 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say The Monolith is way better than the X15. I'll say if you want high db at infrasonic frequencies and 20-25hz sure monolith, but the X15 will do better in the mid. Plus the paradigm has the app which is a huge convenience to set it up. You can get a better pricing on the X15 as dealers will give discounts. pricing on The Monolith is good as it is so they are as close call as you would get. I prefer the mid bass output on the X15 and the app.
@Smellslikegelfling3 жыл бұрын
@@xpidex3399 From all the reviews I've read it seems like Monolith is the way to go if you want ultimate performance, but I feel like the Paradigm might be better in terms of warranty and support. I have heard some not so good things about the Monolith sub amplifiers. From a performance aspect they seem badass, but they may be cutting costs by using lower cost components and labor. Then again maybe I'm wrong, but I don't really feel like trying my luck with that amount of cash.

@@neosmith3633 Performance wise, I have heard great things about the Monolith subs. Seems they are hard to beat in that aspect.
@xpidex33993 жыл бұрын
@@Smellslikegelfling yeah I can't speak on that aspect of the warranty but I have to assume the monolith sells 2-3 times more than the paradigm which means by volume they should report more issues and no idea how is the customer service on both sides. I currently have the X15 and got it 8month ago. I was in the same spot you are if looking to buy one (for me at that time was the monolith 15 and SVS 3000 I think and the X15). As I mentioned for me the mid bass output and having the app plus I got a better pricing on the X15 via my dealer was the way to go, it has ARC too but honestly I can't speak much of it as only did it via iPad and noticed a slight improvement but I'm waiting to get a second one here soon to them mess more around with it along with a mini DSP. @@LichaelMewis No. I just bought another Monolith 10" sub and Im good with it. My wife complains about the strong presents of bass now, just imagine if I went bigger. Also the 10" compliments my smooth jazz, lounge, and chill-out music, so Im good.

I'm in search for new sub for my home theater room. It will be used for music and movies and unfortunately I only have room for one sub in my layout. The room size is 24'x12'. Right now I'm torn between the SVS PB3000 vs the SVS SB4000 vs this Monolith 13". What would you recommend in my situation?

Do you have a chart of what level of distortion is audible at various frequencies?

read the review linked in the description.

@@Audioholics Thanks, found it. 😊 "The quantity being measured is how much of the subwoofer’s output is distortion and is shown here as a percentage. What we see here is that the Monolith 13” maintains very good distortion levels that only get pushed up somewhat at the highest drive level, and even then only just above port tuning which is where we would expect the most driver motion. Below the highest drive level, distortion stays below 10% where it should be inaudible. At nominal drive levels, it hovers around 1% THD. Until you max out the volume, this is a very clean and high-fidelity subwoofer, and even at maximum output levels it is still mostly well behaved except around 25Hz."

Do anyone know what the actual dimensions of the monolith 13 thx ultra subwoofer is? It appears the monoprice website may be incorrect

I’d like to know of a real world, domestic set up, where this beast can be used to anywhere near it’s full potential. I personally, as a 2 channel man, a purest and minimalist and not into home theatre, would choose 2 smaller subs for more uniform bass distribution. I’d like to see you do a compare and contrast between that beast and the Kef KC62. They are of a similar price and power rating, but, that’s where the similarities end!

I think one of my 15” sub amp is bad. Well ran into my first problem with these subs. One or my 15” subs had a pop noise (amp) and then started blinking red and green with no sound. Flipped the switch on the back off and waited for it to stop blinking. Turned it on, turned green, but then when bass hit it popped again and started blinking red and green. This is about 2 years of ownership for this sub. Contacted customer support

How would you compare it to svs subs and which svs sub model is comparable too?

I have the monolith 12” beast. Loving the performance of this new 13”. I prefer the previous cabinet design with the faceted corners. Looks like Batman type sub. Matches emotiva speakers if you have those. This new design is more subtle/boring IMO. Day to day I just watch the KZbin videos. Whenever I’m really doing research/about to make a purchase I go and read all the articles though

Currently have two of the THX 10s in my theater. I can only imagine the headroom I would get with the 13s over the 10s.

When my uograde from Klipsch R-12sw subs I'm thinking of getting the Monolith 10's. What size is your room? I'm not sure if I should get just one 10 and roll with one R-12sw or just buy dual 10's.
@OHMAudioChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeortiz2139 so my room is a an open unfinished basement right now, 28x40 and the monolith 10s have enough output to get to me to “reference levels” down to 16hz but are a little lacking in that chesty punch, largely due to having bare walls and long RT decay times. I previously had a Dayton audio sub-1200 and sub-1500 and the monoliths blow the doors off the budget Dayton’s in low end extension and output

That's a monster room. My living room is about 17 x 20 but it's fairly open. I'll always going to consider two, but I'll see when the time comes.
@OHMAudioChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeortiz2139 two is always better than one. It gives you more consistent bass across more than seat and can help address any room modes. We are going to be partially finishing the basement soon which will cut the listening room dimensions down by at least half. One of the advantages of a ranch style house, big basmenents.
